Weekend Getaways from Bangalore: 16 Short Trips Compared
Coffee hills, tiger forests, a temple-and-palace city and two beaches – how far each one really is from Bengaluru, which months work, and what a private weekend costs a couple.
Bengaluru has an unfair advantage when it comes to short breaks. Within a five-hour radius sit the coffee estates of Coorg and Chikmagalur, two of India's best-run tiger reserves, the palace city of Mysuru, the Nilgiri hill stations across the Tamil Nadu border and the ruins of Hampi. The catch is the city itself: getting past Electronic City, Hebbal or the Tumakuru Road toll on a Friday evening can eat two hours before the trip has begun. A Bangalore weekend tour works best when the destination is matched to the exit you leave by and the hour you leave at.
This guide puts sixteen getaways side by side with road distance from the city centre, a realistic drive time for an early Saturday start, the train or flight that can replace the drive, the best months and a one-line note on who each place suits. Below the table you will find the getaways grouped by drive time, four sample two-day plans, a long-weekend calendar for Karnataka from November 2026 through 2027, and budget bands per couple. A plain disclosure: Vibrant Holidays is not a Bengaluru company. Our team works from Ahmedabad and plans Bangalore trips on WhatsApp and phone, with a private car and driver collecting you from home. Everything on this page is useful whether you book with us or not.

Master table: 16 getaways from Bengaluru
Distances are by road from central Bengaluru (MG Road area) and rounded. Drive times assume leaving by 6 am on a Saturday in a private car with sensible stops; a Friday-evening start or Sunday-evening return can add 1½–2½ hours at the city edge.

| Hampi | 340 | 6–7 | Overnight train to Hosapete (about 9–10 hours) | Oct–Feb | History lovers, photographers, students |

| Kochi and Munnar | 550 | 10+ | Flight to Kochi, about 1 hour | Sep–Mar | Long-weekend couples and families |
The short version we give callers: a strict two-day weekend should stay under five hours of driving each way. Coorg, Ooty and Wayanad are on the edge – fine if you leave at dawn, tiring if you leave after work on Friday. Hampi, Gokarna, Goa and Kerala need a third day or an overnight journey.
Within 3 hours: Nandi Hills, Mysuru and the Kaveri falls
Nandi Hills – the sunrise drive
The hill fort north of the airport is Bengaluru's favourite pre-dawn outing, and for a reason: on a monsoon or winter morning the town below disappears under cloud. The gate opens around sunrise and parking fills within an hour on weekends, so either reach before 6 am or stay overnight at a resort at the foothills and go up while day-trippers queue. Tipu's Drop, the Yoga Nandeeshwara temple and the cycling route around the base fill a relaxed Saturday. Pair it with the Bhoga Nandeeshwara temple and a vineyard lunch around Doddaballapur.
Mysuru and Srirangapatna – the easiest family weekend
The Bengaluru–Mysuru access-controlled highway has brought the palace city within about two hours on a clear road, and the morning trains are as quick. Srirangapatna sits just before Mysuru: Tipu Sultan's summer palace, the Ranganathaswamy temple and the Ranganathittu bird sanctuary are a good first stop. In Mysuru, the Amba Vilas palace is illuminated on Sunday evenings and public holidays for about an hour; plan your Sunday around it or stay till Monday morning. Chamundi Hill, the Devaraja market, Brindavan Gardens and the St Philomena's church fill a second day. During Dasara (usually October) hotels triple their rates and the city is packed; go the weekend after.
Shivanasamudra, Talakadu and Somanathapura
Gaganachukki and Bharachukki falls on the Kaveri are a dramatic sight from August to November and a trickle in April. Combine them with the sand-buried temples of Talakadu and the star-shaped Hoysala temple at Somanathapura, and you have a quiet heritage-and-water loop that most Bengaluru families overlook. Stays here are limited, so most people base themselves in Mysuru.
3 to 6 hours: the coffee hills, the forests and the Nilgiris
Coorg
Kodagu is the default answer for a Bangalore weekend, and its homestays inside working coffee and pepper estates are the real reason to go. Abbey Falls, Raja's Seat, the Dubare elephant camp (morning slot only), the Golden Temple at Bylakuppe and Talacauvery cover the sights; the evenings are for the estate walk and a bonfire. Leave Bengaluru before 6 am, take the Mysuru road and break for breakfast at Maddur or Srirangapatna. Roads around Madikeri are narrow and slow, so pick a homestay near the places you want to see rather than the cheapest one.
Chikmagalur
Higher and greener than Coorg, with Mullayanagiri (Karnataka's highest peak, about 1,930 m) and Baba Budangiri reachable by a narrow road where the district has limited vehicle numbers on peak days in recent seasons. Hebbe and Jhari falls need a jeep from the base. A coffee-estate stay near Mudigere or Kudremukh is quieter than one in town. Belur and Halebidu, the two finest Hoysala temples, are on the way – a reason to start early.
Kabini and Bandipur – a safari weekend
Kabini's backwater edge draws elephants in large herds from March to May and gives a fair chance of tiger and leopard sightings. Jungle Lodges runs the main government safari, and private lodges have their own permitted jeeps or boats. Bandipur is easier for a first safari, with the forest department bus and jeep rides from the reception centre on the Mysuru–Ooty road. Book stays early for summer weekends; many lodges include two safaris and all meals in the room rate.
Sakleshpur and Yercaud
Sakleshpur is the monsoon pick: misty Western Ghats, Manjarabad star fort and the Bisle viewpoint, with plantation stays at modest prices. Yercaud, in Tamil Nadu above Salem, is a small, low-key hill station with a lake, coffee estates and viewpoints over the plains. It suits couples who want quiet and a short climb rather than a long ghat road.
Ooty, Coonoor and Wayanad
The Nilgiris and Wayanad are reached through Bandipur, and the forest roads through Bandipur and Mudumalai, and the Muthanga stretch into Wayanad, close to most traffic from 9 pm to 6 am. If you leave Bengaluru after work you will be stopped at the check-post, so this is a dawn-start trip. Coonoor is calmer than Ooty and has the better tea-estate views; the Nilgiri Mountain Railway between Mettupalayam and Ooty needs booking weeks ahead for weekends. Wayanad has the treehouse resorts, Edakkal caves and Banasura Sagar dam, with the best weather from September to May.
Short flights and overnight journeys: Hampi, Gokarna, Goa and Kerala
- Hampi: the overnight train to Hosapete gets you there at breakfast with a full Saturday in hand. Hire an autorickshaw with a guide for the royal centre and the Vittala temple, watch sunset from Hemakuta hill, then spend Sunday morning on the Virupaksha temple and the riverside ruins. October to February only – from March the rocks radiate heat until late evening.
- Gokarna: Om, Kudle and Half Moon beaches linked by headland walks, plus the Mahabaleshwar temple in town. Overnight Volvo buses and trains reach Gokarna Road or Kumta at dawn. Swimming is unsafe from June to September.
- Goa: non-stop flights of about 1¼ hours to Dabolim and to Mopa in the north make a Friday-to-Sunday Goa trip realistic. Choose the airport closest to your beach – Mopa for Morjim, Ashwem and Arambol; Dabolim for the south. See our Goa planning guide for Bangalore travellers.
- Kochi and Munnar: the flight is about an hour, which makes a three-day Fort Kochi and Munnar trip possible over any long weekend. Add a houseboat night only with a fourth day.
- Mangaluru and Udupi: about an hour by air; temples in Udupi, Malpe beach and St Mary's Island for families with a Friday off.
- Andaman: a non-stop or one-stop flight to Port Blair turns a four-day long weekend into a real island trip; read our Andaman guide for Bengaluru travellers.

Long weekends for Bengaluru, November 2026 to 2027
These dates come from the Karnataka holiday lists published so far; festival dates follow the lunar calendar and can move by a day when the final government notification appears, and private employers follow their own lists. Treat this as a planning sketch and confirm with your office calendar.
| Dates | Holiday | Break you can make | Good fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sun 8 – Mon 9/Tue 10 Nov 2026 | Deepavali and Balipadyami | 3–4 days | Hampi, Coorg, Goa by air |
| Fri 27 – Sun 29 Nov 2026 | Kanakadasa Jayanti | 3 days | Chikmagalur, Wayanad |
| Fri 25 – Sun 27 Dec 2026 | Christmas | 3 days | Puducherry, Kochi (book early) |
| Fri 1 – Sun 3 Jan 2027 | New Year (many offices) | 3 days | Coorg homestays, Gokarna |
| Fri 15 – Sun 17 Jan 2027 | Sankranti | 3 days | Hampi, Kabini |
| Sat 23 – Tue 26 Jan 2027 | Republic Day (Tuesday, take Monday off) | 4 days | Andaman, Kerala, Goa |
| Fri 26 – Sun 28 Mar 2027 | Good Friday | 3 days | Ooty, Coonoor, Yercaud |
| Sat 15 – Mon 17 May 2027 | Bakrid | 3 days | Kabini, Ooty |
| Thu 28 Oct – Mon 1 Nov 2027 | Deepavali and Kannada Rajyotsava | 5 days with no leave | Kerala, Goa, a full Coorg–Wayanad loop |
Kannada Rajyotsava on 1 November 2026 falls on a Sunday, so it adds nothing this year. Gandhi Jayanti, Ganesh Chaturthi and Vijayadashami in 2027 all land on Saturdays. On every long weekend Coorg and Chikmagalur homestays fill three to four weeks out, and the Mysuru road jams around Ramanagara on the first morning.
Budget bands per couple (indicative)
Indicative ranges for two people for two nights, before tolls and entry tickets. The car column is a private sedan with driver for the whole weekend from your door; an SUV adds about 30–40%. Long weekends and the December–January peak run 25–40% higher. These are not quotes – rates move with the date and the specific property.
| Getaway | Comfortable stay, 2 nights | Premium stay, 2 nights | Private car with driver |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nandi Hills | ₹7,000 – 12,000 | ₹18,000 – 30,000 | ₹4,000 – 6,000 |
| Mysuru | ₹6,000 – 11,000 | ₹16,000 – 35,000 | ₹7,000 – 9,500 |
| Coorg or Chikmagalur (estate homestay with meals) | ₹9,000 – 16,000 | ₹28,000 – 60,000 | ₹10,000 – 13,500 |
| Kabini or Bandipur (lodge with safaris and meals) | ₹18,000 – 30,000 | ₹45,000 – 90,000 | ₹8,500 – 11,000 |
| Ooty, Coonoor or Wayanad | ₹8,000 – 15,000 | ₹22,000 – 45,000 | ₹11,000 – 14,500 |
| Hampi (with overnight train) | ₹7,000 – 13,000 | ₹25,000 – 50,000 | Local car ₹3,000 – 4,500 |
| Goa or Kochi by air (flights extra) | ₹9,000 – 18,000 | ₹25,000 – 55,000 | Airport car ₹3,500 – 7,000 |
What adds up on the ground: safari fees at Bandipur and Kabini outside a lodge package, jeep hire to Hebbe falls or Kudremukh trails, the Nilgiri toy train, Mysuru palace and Chamundi parking, and interstate permit charges for a Karnataka-registered car entering Tamil Nadu or Kerala, which are usually folded into the car rate.
How we plan a Bangalore weekend (from Ahmedabad)
Vibrant Holidays has run private trips since 2015 from its office on C G Road in Ahmedabad. We do not have a Bengaluru branch, and we will not pretend to. What we do is plan your weekend remotely and properly.
- Message or call us with dates, the number of people and their ages, where you live in Bengaluru (Whitefield and Sarjapur exits differ from Yelahanka) and the mood you want: wildlife, coffee hills, temples, beach.
- Receive two or three options as a PDF with named homestays or lodges, the car type, timings and a clear price.
- Confirm and pay against a GST invoice; vouchers and your driver's name and number follow before Friday.
- Travel with support: the team stays reachable 24×7 on WhatsApp and talks directly to the driver and the property if a plan changes.
Every weekend is a private trip – your own car and timings, never a shared coach. Friend groups and extended families travel together as a private group on their own dates, usually in a Tempo Traveller. Pure-veg and Jain meals are arranged on request and confirmed in writing: easy in Mysuru, Udupi and Hampi; Coorg homestays cook vegetarian well but Jain menus are simpler, and jungle lodges need advance notice. We are IATA-accredited, members of TAAI, TAFI, ADTOI and IATO, and recognised by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. Browse Karnataka packages, Kerala packages, all trips from Bangalore or more ideas in our holiday guides.

Which is the best weekend getaway from Bangalore?
Coorg is the most popular because a coffee-estate homestay, waterfalls and the Dubare elephant camp fit neatly into two days. Chikmagalur is the better pick for cooler weather and quieter roads. For a first family trip without much driving, Mysuru by train is hard to beat, and Kabini is the choice for a wildlife weekend.
Which places are within 100 km of Bangalore for a weekend?
Nandi Hills (about 60 km) is the classic, with sunrise views and resorts at the foothills. Others within roughly 100 km include Ramanagara for rock climbing, Kanakapura and the Mekedatu road, Skandagiri for a night trek, Muthyala Maduvu and Hesaraghatta. Most of these are day trips; Nandi Hills is the one with good overnight stays.
Coorg or Chikmagalur: which is better for a weekend?
Choose Coorg for more sights, better family homestays and the Dubare and Bylakuppe stops. Choose Chikmagalur for higher hills, Mullayanagiri, cooler nights and Belur and Halebidu on the way. Drive time is similar, about five hours. Couples who want quiet usually prefer Chikmagalur; families with mixed ages often prefer Coorg.
Can I drive from Bangalore to Ooty or Wayanad at night?
Not through the forest. The roads through Bandipur and Mudumalai to Ooty, and through Bandipur and Muthanga into Wayanad, are closed to most traffic from about 9 pm to 6 am to protect wildlife. Plan a dawn departure, or stop overnight in Mysuru on Friday and cross the forest early on Saturday.
Which weekend getaways from Bangalore can be reached by train?
Mysuru is the easiest, about two hours by the Vande Bharat or Shatabdi. Hampi works by the overnight train to Hosapete. Salem (for Yercaud), Sakleshpur, Kadur and Chikkamagaluru, and Mettupalayam for the Ooty toy train are also reachable by rail. Coorg has no railway; the nearest station is Mysuru.
What is the best weekend getaway from Bangalore in the monsoon?
Sakleshpur, Coorg, Chikmagalur and Agumbe are at their greenest from July to September, and Shivanasamudra falls are in full flow from August. Expect leeches on estate walks, slippery roads and some closed trails. Avoid Gokarna and the beaches, where swimming is unsafe, and check landslide advisories before driving to Coorg or Wayanad.
How much does a weekend trip from Bangalore cost for a couple?
For two nights, a comfortable homestay or hotel costs roughly ₹6,000 to ₹16,000 for two, and a private sedan with driver about ₹4,000 to ₹14,500 depending on distance. Safari lodges at Kabini or Bandipur, which include meals and safaris, start nearer ₹18,000. Long weekends and late December run 25 to 40 percent higher.
Is Hampi possible as a weekend trip from Bangalore?
Yes, if you use the overnight train to Hosapete on Friday and return overnight on Sunday. That gives two full days among the ruins. Driving takes about six to seven hours each way and leaves little time. Go between October and February; from March onward the boulders and temples become uncomfortably hot by mid-morning.
Where can we go from Bangalore for a weekend with elderly parents?
Mysuru and Srirangapatna by train, a resort at the foot of Nandi Hills, or a Kabini lodge with boat safaris all keep walking and drive time low. Coorg works with a homestay on a motorable road and fewer stops. Avoid Hampi in the heat, Mullayanagiri's narrow road and the long Ooty ghat if anyone gets car-sick.
Which beach is closest to Bangalore for a weekend?
By road, Puducherry is the nearest beach town at about 310 km, roughly six to seven hours. Gokarna and Murudeshwar on the Karnataka coast are further, best by overnight bus or train. For the least travel time, fly to Goa or Mangaluru, which take about an hour, and you can be on a beach by lunchtime.
Does Vibrant Holidays have an office in Bangalore?
No. Our only office is on C G Road in Ahmedabad. Bengaluru weekends are planned by our team in Ahmedabad and booked on WhatsApp or phone. You receive the plan and invoice as PDFs, a private car and driver pick you up from home, and someone on our team is reachable around the clock during the trip.
