Best Honeymoon Destinations Abroad from India (2026)
Fifteen foreign honeymoon options grouped by what a couple actually spends, with the visa an Indian passport needs, the hours you will sit on a plane and the months worth travelling.
An overseas honeymoon is decided by three numbers more than by photographs: the total the two of you can spend, the hours you are willing to fly, and the weeks you have between the wedding and the visa deadline. A Maldives water villa and a Bali pool villa can look identical on Instagram and differ by ₹2 lakh. Europe looks like a dream until you realise the Schengen appointment has to be booked before the wedding cards are printed.
This guide is organised around those three numbers. Destinations are grouped into three budget tiers per couple – under ₹1.5 lakh, ₹1.5 to 3 lakh, and above ₹3 lakh – and every entry shows the visa position for Indians, flight time from Indian metros, the months to go and the months to avoid, and a one-line verdict. Below the tiers there is a visa timeline, a decision table by honeymoon style, and money-saving advice specific to couples. Visa and entry rules are given as of October 2026; rules change – we check before you book. If you would rather stay in India, our separate guide to honeymoon destinations in India works through the domestic options month by month.

Tier 1: under ₹1.5 lakh per couple
Thailand – Phuket, Krabi and Phi Phi
Limestone cliffs, island-hopping speedboats, pool-access rooms at mid-range prices and no visa for a 30-day stay since 15 September 2026 (complete the free TDAC online within 72 hours of arrival). Skip Pattaya on a honeymoon; spend the nights in Krabi's Railay or Ao Nang and a Phuket beach outside Patong. Avoid: the Andaman Sea coast from June to September, when seas are rough. Verdict: the safest first overseas honeymoon for most Indian couples.
Vietnam – Ha Long Bay to Hoi An
An overnight cruise on Ha Long Bay, the lantern-lit old town in Hoi An and a resort beach in Da Nang or Phu Quoc. The e-visa costs USD 25 for single entry through the official portal. Avoid: central Vietnam in October and November (typhoon and flood season). Verdict: more distinctive than Thailand for nearly the same money.
Bali – Ubud and the southern coast
Private pool villas in Ubud's jungle and cliff-top sunsets at Uluwatu. Indians get a visa on arrival or e-VOA (IDR 500,000), and Bali charges a separate tourist levy of IDR 150,000 per person. Flights usually connect through Singapore or Kuala Lumpur. Avoid: January to March if beach time is a priority. Verdict: the best villa-for-money honeymoon in Asia; at the top end it crosses into Tier 2.
Sri Lanka – hills and south coast
A scenic train through tea country to Ella, then a villa near Galle or Bentota. The tourist ETA is free for Indians since 25 May 2026, though it must still be approved before you fly. Verdict: ideal for couples from the south who want a short flight and variety.
Malaysia – Langkawi with Kuala Lumpur
Two nights in the city for the Petronas Towers and shopping, then three on Langkawi's beaches and cable car. Visa-free for Indians under a scheme valid until 31 December 2026. Verdict: easy and inexpensive, though less dramatic than Krabi or Bali.
Tier 2: ₹1.5 lakh to ₹3 lakh per couple
Mauritius
Lagoon-front resorts on half-board or all-inclusive plans, a catamaran day to Île aux Cerfs, the Seven Coloured Earth and Indian food almost everywhere because of the island's large Indian-origin community. Indians do not need a visa for a holiday of up to 90 days; carry a return ticket and hotel confirmations. Winter months (June – August) are cooler and windier but cheaper. Verdict: the most relaxed and easiest beach honeymoon for Indian couples who want a resort and good food.
Maldives – beach villa resorts
One island, one resort: a beach villa with a meal plan, house reef snorkelling and seaplane or speedboat transfers. Indians receive a free 30-day visa on arrival with a confirmed resort booking and the IMUGA online declaration. Speedboat-transfer resorts near Malé keep costs down; seaplanes add roughly ₹50,000 – 1,00,000 per couple. Verdict: shortest flight to the classic overwater honeymoon; choose the meal plan carefully because resort food is expensive.
Dubai, with Abu Dhabi
Desert dinners, Burj Khalifa at sunset, dhow cruises and luxury hotels at prices that look reasonable next to Europe. Indians need a pre-arranged tourist e-visa; we prepare and submit your application, and approval is at the authority's discretion. Verdict: best for couples who enjoy city glamour and shopping more than beaches; avoid June to August for outdoor plans.
Azerbaijan and Georgia
Baku's old city and seaside boulevard, then Tbilisi, the wine region of Kakheti and the mountains at Kazbegi. Both have e-visas; holders of a valid US, UK or Schengen visa can usually enter Georgia without one. Verdict: a Europe-like honeymoon at roughly half the price.
Bali luxury and Thailand's Koh Samui
Upgrade either Tier 1 option to a cliff-top villa in Uluwatu or a beach pool villa on Koh Samui and you are firmly in this tier – often still cheaper than a mid-range Maldives resort.
Tier 3: ₹3 lakh and above per couple
Seychelles
Granite-boulder beaches at Anse Source d'Argent on La Digue, Praslin's Vallée de Mai, and island-hopping between Mahé, Praslin and La Digue. Indians receive a free visitor permit on arrival but need the paid online Seychelles Travel Authorisation before boarding. Verdict: for couples who want more than one island and fewer honeymoon crowds than the Maldives.
Maldives – water villas
Overwater villas with steps into the lagoon, all-inclusive plans and seaplane transfers. Four nights is the sweet spot; longer stays add cost without adding much new. Verdict: the honeymoon most couples dream of; split two nights in a beach villa and two in a water villa to save money.
Turkey – Istanbul and Cappadocia
Bosphorus cruises, the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia, hot-air balloon flights over Cappadocia's fairy chimneys, and a coastal finish in Antalya or Bodrum in summer. Indians need a sticker visa through the official application centre unless they hold a valid US, UK or Schengen visa or residence permit, which allows an e-visa. Plan the visa four to six weeks before travel. Verdict: history and romance together; balloon flights depend on wind, so keep two Cappadocia mornings.
Europe – Switzerland, Paris, Italy
Swiss lake towns and mountain trains, a Paris evening on the Seine, and Venice or the Amalfi Coast for couples with ten nights. A Schengen visa is required; the standard fee for adults is EUR 90 plus service charges, and appointments in peak months can take weeks. Apply up to six months before travel. Verdict: the most expensive and paperwork-heavy option, and for many couples the most memorable.
Also worth considering
Australia and New Zealand for a two-week road-trip honeymoon, South Africa for a safari-and-Cape Town combination, and Japan in the cherry-blossom season. All need visas applied for well in advance and suit couples with 12 nights or more.
Visa timeline for an overseas honeymoon
The most common honeymoon problem we see is a visa started too late. Use the wedding date to work backwards. Passports must be valid at least six months beyond the return date, with blank pages. If the bride's passport will change surname, travel on the current passport and book tickets in exactly that name.
| Visa type | Countries | Start the paperwork |
|---|---|---|
| No visa / visa on arrival | Thailand, Malaysia, Mauritius, Maldives, Bali | Book anytime; complete arrival forms (TDAC, MDAC, IMUGA, e-VOA) in the last few days |
| Online authorisation | Sri Lanka ETA, Seychelles Travel Authorisation | One to two weeks before travel |
| E-visa | Vietnam, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Dubai | Three to four weeks before travel |
| Sticker visa | Turkey (without US/UK/Schengen visa), Singapore | Four to six weeks before travel |
| Schengen and long-haul | Europe, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Japan | Two to three months before travel; appointment slots are the bottleneck |
A marriage certificate is not required for most tourist visas, but carry a copy; some hotels and embassies ask for it when spouses share a room or apply jointly. For any visa, we prepare and submit your application; approval is at the authority's discretion. See our visa-free countries list, the Thailand visa guide and the Dubai visa guide.
Pick by honeymoon style
| If you want… | Choose | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Overwater villa, total privacy | Maldives | Short flight, one-island resorts, free visa on arrival |
| Beach resort and Indian food | Mauritius | Half-board resorts, vegetarian-friendly, no visa |
| Private pool villa on a budget | Bali | Villas cost a fraction of beach resorts elsewhere |
| Islands plus nightlife | Thailand | Krabi and Phuket give both, no visa |
| Culture and scenery | Vietnam, Turkey | Ha Long Bay, Hoi An, Cappadocia balloons |
| Luxury city break | Dubai | Short flight, five-star hotels, desert evenings |
| Mountains and snow abroad | Switzerland, Georgia | Alpine trains or the Caucasus at a lower cost |
| Fewer honeymooners, rare beaches | Seychelles | Three islands, boulder beaches, quiet lagoons |
How Indian couples save on an overseas honeymoon
- Use the shoulder month. Maldives in May or October, Bali in April, Mauritius in June or September and Europe in early June or late September cost noticeably less than peak weeks.
- Split the resort stay. In the Maldives and Mauritius, two nights in a cheaper room type and two in the dream room deliver most of the experience.
- Choose meal plans before arrival. Resort food bought on the spot can double the bill; half-board or all-inclusive is usually better value on islands.
- Tell hotels it is a honeymoon and carry a copy of the wedding card or certificate; many add cake, room decoration or a dinner.
- Fly from the right hub. Maldives is cheapest from Bengaluru, Kochi or Chennai; Mauritius and Seychelles from Mumbai; Vietnam and Baku from Delhi.
- Book flexible. Wedding dates move; date-change-friendly fares and hotels with free cancellation are worth a small premium.
- Insure the trip. Medical costs in the Maldives, Seychelles and Europe are very high, and Schengen visas require insurance anyway.
Live prices: Maldives, Mauritius, Bali, Thailand, Seychelles, Vietnam, Turkey and Europe. All our honeymoon trips are on the honeymoon packages page.

Which is the best international honeymoon destination for Indian couples?
For most Indian couples, the Maldives, Bali, Mauritius and Thailand are the top four. The Maldives suits those who want an overwater villa, Bali offers private pool villas at lower prices, Mauritius is easiest for Indian food and has no visa, and Thailand gives the best value with visa-free entry for 30 days.
Which is the cheapest honeymoon destination abroad from India?
Thailand, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Vietnam are the cheapest, at about ₹95,000 to ₹1,60,000 for two people for five or six nights including flights. Nepal is cheaper still but has no beaches. Bali is close behind and offers private pool villas that would cost far more elsewhere.
What is a good international honeymoon under ₹1.5 lakh for a couple?
Within ₹1.5 lakh for two, choose Thailand (Phuket and Krabi), Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Malaysia (Langkawi and Kuala Lumpur), or Bali in a mid-range villa. Travel outside Diwali, Christmas and the May holidays, and book six to ten weeks ahead to stay inside that budget with flights included.
Maldives or Bali – which is better for a honeymoon?
Choose the Maldives for a short flight, total privacy and an overwater villa, accepting higher prices and little to do beyond the resort. Choose Bali for variety – temples, rice terraces, beaches and cafés – and private pool villas at lower cost. Bali needs a visa on arrival and usually a connecting flight.
Which foreign countries do not need a visa for an Indian honeymoon?
As of October 2026, Thailand (30 days), Malaysia (30 days, until 31 December 2026) and Mauritius (up to 90 days) need no visa. The Maldives gives a free visa on arrival, Bali a paid visa on arrival, and Seychelles a free visitor permit plus a paid online authorisation. Rules change, so we recheck before booking.
How much does a Maldives honeymoon cost from India?
For four nights, a couple typically spends ₹1,80,000 to ₹3,00,000 in a beach villa with breakfast or half-board and speedboat transfers, including flights from India. Water villas, all-inclusive plans and seaplane transfers push the cost to ₹3,00,000 to ₹6,00,000. May, June, September and October are cheaper months.
Is Mauritius or Maldives better for a honeymoon?
Mauritius is better if you want variety, driving around the island, Indian food and good resorts at lower prices. The Maldives is better for overwater villas and pure seclusion on one island. Mauritius has a longer flight of about six hours from Mumbai, while the Maldives is under three hours from most of India.
When should we apply for a visa for our honeymoon?
For e-visas such as Vietnam, Dubai and Azerbaijan, apply three to four weeks before travel. For Turkey without a Schengen, US or UK visa, start four to six weeks ahead. For Europe, start two to three months ahead because appointment slots are the bottleneck. Passports should be valid six months beyond return.
Can the bride travel on a passport with her maiden name?
Yes. Travel on whichever passport is valid, and book flights, hotels and visas in exactly the name printed on it. Changing the passport surname shortly before a honeymoon can delay visas and cause name mismatches. Carry a copy of the marriage certificate in case a hotel or embassy asks for proof.
Which is the best month for an international honeymoon from India?
It depends on the destination. December to April suits the Maldives, Thailand and Sri Lanka. May to December suits Mauritius. April to October is best for Bali. Europe and Turkey are best in May, June and September. Most Indian weddings fall from November to February, which aligns well with the Maldives and Thailand.
Is Europe a good honeymoon from India?
Europe is excellent for couples with at least eight to ten nights and a budget of ₹4 lakh or more for two. Switzerland, Paris and Italy are the most popular combination. You will need a Schengen visa, so start two to three months ahead and book appointments early in the spring and summer seasons.
How many days are ideal for an international honeymoon?
Plan four nights for the Maldives or Dubai, five or six for Thailand, Bali, Sri Lanka or Mauritius, six or seven for Vietnam, Seychelles or Turkey, and eight to ten for Europe. Fewer nights than that usually means too much time in transfers relative to the time you get to relax together.
