Honeymoon Destinations in India: Month-by-Month Guide

Eighteen Indian honeymoon places sorted by the month you can travel and the mood you want, with what two people really spend and the trade-offs nobody puts in the brochure.

Typical couple budget₹45,000 – 2,00,000 for 4–6 nights with flights

Most Indian couples choose their honeymoon in the reverse order to how they should. They pick a place first, then discover that the wedding falls in the month when that place is cold, wet, shut or priced at its annual peak. Weddings in India cluster between November and February, with a second wave in April–May, so the right question is: what is genuinely good in the weeks right after our wedding?

This guide answers that. It starts with a month-by-month calendar, then gives a short profile of each destination – the style of trip, the ideal number of nights, a realistic budget for two people including economy flights from a major Indian city, and a one-line verdict. After that come a comparison by style (hills, beach, backwaters, snow, heritage), how to choose between the top candidates, and the practical tips that save couples money and stress. If you have already chosen and want prices, our honeymoon packages page lists live trips; this page is for deciding where to go.

Choosing by style and budget

Budgets are for two people, for the nights shown, including return economy flights from a major Indian city, hotel with breakfast, private car and transfers. They exclude most meals and activities.

Quick choosers: if one of you wants snow and the other wants a beach, do Kerala (hills and beach) or Kashmir in spring followed by Goa. If you have only four nights, choose a place with a short transfer from the airport – Goa, Udaipur or Coorg – rather than Andaman or Ladakh. If it is your first trip together and you are unsure of each other's travel style, avoid long road days; Sikkim and Ladakh involve many hours in a car.

Live trips: Kerala, Kashmir, Himachal, Andaman, Goa, Rajasthan, Ladakh, Meghalaya and the North East.

Honeymoon tips for Indian couples

  1. Leave one day after the wedding. Flying the morning after the reception rarely works; most couples enjoy the trip more if it starts two or three days later.
  2. Book wedding-season dates early. For November to February, reserve beach and snow resorts eight to twelve weeks ahead; flights to Port Blair and Srinagar climb quickly.
  3. Spend on the room, save on the car. A view room or private pool shapes the memory far more than a bigger vehicle.
  4. Ask for honeymoon inclusions in writing: a decorated room, cake, a candle-lit dinner, or a houseboat upgrade. Many hotels include something; confirm it before arrival.
  5. Carry ID for both. Hotels in India ask every guest for a government photo ID; some resorts and permits for Sikkim, Ladakh or Lakshadweep need extra copies and photos.
  6. Pace the trip. Two nights minimum at each stop; three stops in six nights is the maximum for a relaxed honeymoon.
  7. Altitude and weather: in Ladakh rest on day one; in Kashmir and Sikkim winters, insist on heated rooms; in Kerala's monsoon, keep a flexible day.
  8. Food: pure-veg and Jain meals can be arranged across Kerala, Rajasthan, Kashmir and Goa; on remote islands and in Ladakh camps the choice is simpler, and we tell you in advance.
  9. Insurance and cancellations: wedding dates can shift. Prefer refundable or date-change-friendly bookings when the date is not final.

Honeymoon Destinations in India: FAQs

Which is the best honeymoon destination in India?

Kerala is the most complete choice because it combines tea-estate hills, a private houseboat on the backwaters and a beach in one week, and it works for most of the year. Kashmir is the best for snow and scenery, Andaman for beaches and Udaipur for a short, romantic heritage stay.

Which honeymoon place is best in December in India?

In December, Gulmarg gives the best chance of snow, Goa and Andaman offer warm, dry beaches, Kerala is green and pleasant, and the Rann of Kutch has the white desert festival. Prices peak between about 20 December and 5 January, so book early or travel in the first half of the month.

Which is the cheapest honeymoon destination in India?

Manali, Mussoorie, Ooty, Pondicherry and Gokarna are the cheapest, at roughly ₹35,000 to ₹75,000 for two people for three to five nights including travel. Manali becomes especially affordable if you take an overnight Volvo bus from Delhi instead of flying. Shoulder-season Goa is another low-cost option.

Where can we see snow on our honeymoon in India?

Gulmarg in Kashmir is the most reliable for snow from late December to February. Sissu and Solang near Manali, Lachung and Zero Point in Sikkim, and Auli in Uttarakhand also get good snow. Choose hotels with central heating, and keep one flexible day in case roads close after heavy snowfall.

Which is the best honeymoon place in India in summer?

For April to June, Kashmir, Sikkim, Darjeeling and Manali are the best. From June, Ladakh opens with clear skies and blue lakes. Hill stations are crowded during May school holidays, so stay outside the busiest town centres or choose quieter places such as Lachung, Pahalgam or Sissu.

Is Andaman good for a honeymoon?

Yes. Havelock and Neil islands have some of the clearest water and whitest beaches in India, with beach cottages, snorkelling and scuba diving for couples. The best months are November to April. Allow five or six nights because ferry timings use part of each travel day, and book ferries early in peak season.

How many days are enough for a honeymoon in India?

Five to seven nights is ideal for most couples. Four nights work for a single place close to an airport, such as Goa, Udaipur or Coorg. Kerala, Kashmir, Sikkim and Andaman need at least five nights, and Ladakh needs six or seven because of acclimatisation and long drives.

What is the budget for a honeymoon in India?

Most Indian couples spend ₹45,000 to ₹1,50,000 for five or six nights, including flights, hotels with breakfast and a private car. Hill stations and Goa sit at the lower end; Andaman, Ladakh and luxury Kerala or Udaipur hotels sit at the upper end. Lakshadweep and premium resorts can exceed ₹2,00,000.

Which honeymoon destination is good in the monsoon?

During July to September, Kerala hill stations, Coorg, Udaipur and Meghalaya are the best choices. They are green, quieter and much cheaper than in winter. Ladakh is the dry exception and is at its best then. Avoid the Andaman islands and Goa beaches if swimming and boat trips are important to you.

Is Kashmir safe for a honeymoon?

Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg receive large numbers of honeymoon couples every year. As with any destination, check current government travel advisories close to your dates, stay in registered hotels and houseboats, and use a known driver. We monitor conditions and advise you before departure and during the trip.

Can we get vegetarian or Jain food on a honeymoon in India?

Yes, in most places. Kerala, Rajasthan, Kashmir, Goa and Himachal hotels can arrange pure-veg and Jain meals when told in advance, and we confirm this in writing. Options are simpler on small Andaman islands, in Ladakh camps and in Lakshadweep, and we tell you honestly before booking.

Should we choose India or abroad for our honeymoon?

Choose India if you want to avoid visas, travel at short notice or keep the budget under about ₹1,00,000 for two. Choose abroad if passports are ready and you want an overwater villa or a completely new culture. Thailand, Bali and Vietnam can cost about the same as Andaman or luxury Kerala.
