Best Places to Visit in June in India: Where It Won't Rain (2027)
June is the month the monsoon moves up the country. Pick a place it has not reached, or one it will not reach at all, and June is excellent; pick wrongly and you spend the trip watching a closed road.
Choosing the best places to visit in June in India is really a monsoon question. The south-west monsoon has a normal onset date over Kerala of 1 June, according to the India Meteorological Department; in 2026 it arrived on 4 June. From there it moves north and west through the month, normally reaching Mumbai around the second week of June and Gujarat and Delhi in the last week. A place that is perfect on 5 June can be soaked, or cut off by a landslide, by 25 June.
So this guide sorts India by rain risk, not by fame. It starts with the trans-Himalayan regions the monsoon barely touches (Ladakh, Spiti, Zanskar), moves to places that are good in early June but get riskier later (Kashmir, Himachal, Uttarakhand, Sikkim), and then covers the places where rain is the reason to go (Meghalaya, Coorg, Munnar, the Western Ghats). There is a cost table, a road-risk table, notes on the Valley of Flowers and Amarnath season, and a section for Ahmedabad families using the last week of the school vacation. Dates and rules are as of November 2026; rules change – we check before you book.

How the monsoon moves in June, and why it matters for your trip
| Region | Normal monsoon arrival | What June feels like |
|---|---|---|
| Kerala and Karnataka coast | Around 1 June | Heavy rain most days; backwaters green, beaches closed to swimming |
| North East, Meghalaya, Sikkim | First week of June | Daily rain, high waterfalls, landslide risk on hill roads |
| Goa, Konkan, Mumbai | About 7–15 June | Lush and wet; sea rough, water sports stopped |
| Gujarat and Ahmedabad | Usually the second half of June | Humid pre-monsoon heat, then the first heavy spells |
| Uttarakhand and Himachal | Last week of June | Fine early in the month, risky roads from late June |
| Kashmir valley | Weak, often July | Mostly dry and warm, short showers |
| Ladakh, Spiti, Zanskar, Lahaul | Barely reaches | Dry, sunny, the best month of the year for road trips |
Two lessons follow. First, the earlier in June you travel, the more of India is open to you. Second, by the end of June, the reliable choices narrow to the rain-shadow north and to places where you go for the rain itself. IMD publishes daily onset maps on its website, and we check them before every June departure.
June destinations compared: weather, risk and cost
Per-person costs on twin sharing, private car, standard-to-deluxe hotels, breakfast (and dinners where the region normally includes them) and sightseeing. Flights not included. June is still peak season in Ladakh and Kashmir; elsewhere, monsoon discounts start in the second half of the month.

Ladakh, Spiti and Zanskar: where June is at its best
Ladakh and Spiti sit behind the main Himalayan wall, which blocks most monsoon clouds. June gives them warm days, open passes and the full road network, so it is when we plan the most Ladakh trips of the year.
- Roads: by June both the Srinagar–Leh road over Zojila and the Manali–Leh highway are normally open; in 2024 the Manali–Leh route opened to all vehicles only on 6 June, so very early June is still worth a check. Stream crossings on the Manali side swell in the afternoon as snow melts, so drivers cross them in the morning.
- Classic routes: Leh – Nubra over Khardung La – Shyok road to Pangong – back via Chang La is the standard 7-night circuit. Add Tso Moriri for two more nights if everyone is acclimatised.
- Spiti: with Kunzum open, a full circuit from Shimla through Kinnaur to Kaza and out to Manali (or the reverse) is possible; Chandratal camps usually open in June.
- Altitude caution: a slow start in Leh matters more than the month. Seniors should get a doctor's check before booking, and nobody should drive in from Manali and sleep high without a stop at Jispa or Keylong.
- Price warning: June is peak season in Leh, and airfares from Ahmedabad (usually via Delhi or Mumbai) climb sharply for the first three weeks. Book by February–March.
See Ladakh tour packages from Ahmedabad for itineraries, acclimatisation plans and live prices.
Kashmir in June, and the Amarnath Yatra season
Kashmir valley gets only a weak monsoon, so June is mostly dry, with occasional thundershowers. Srinagar is warmer than in May (up to around 30°C), which makes Gulmarg and Pahalgam the better places to spend nights; Sonamarg is at its greenest.
The Amarnath Yatra changes the picture from late June or early July. The Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board fixes dates each year: in 2026 the yatra ran from 3 July to 28 August, with advance registration opening on 15 April. The 2027 dates are not announced as of November 2026; they are normally declared around March–April. During the yatra, security convoys and traffic restrictions apply on the Jammu–Srinagar highway and around Pahalgam and Sonamarg (the two base routes), and hotels there fill with pilgrims.
- Sightseeing trip: go in the first three weeks of June, before the yatra build-up.
- Amarnath pilgrims: registration needs a compulsory health certificate from an authorised doctor, and in recent years the board has set an age band of 13 to 70. We help with the paperwork, helicopter bookings to Panjtarni or Baltal where available, and hotel nights either side.
See Kashmir tour packages from Ahmedabad.
Uttarakhand in June: Valley of Flowers, Hemkund and the yatra
The Valley of Flowers National Park opened on 1 June in 2026 and stays open to 31 October; 1 June has been the usual opening date for years. Entry is allowed between 7 am and 2 pm, and every visitor must be out by 5 pm. A permit costs ₹150 for Indians and covers up to three days. Hemkund Sahib usually opens a little earlier, in late May (23 May in 2026), and the two share the same base at Ghangaria.
- What you will actually see in June: green slopes, glaciers and early blooms. The famous carpet of flowers is from mid-July to mid-August. June is better for clear views; July is better for flowers but wetter.
- Effort: the trek from Pulna to Ghangaria is about 10 km; ponies and porters are available. Hemkund is a steep 6 km climb from Ghangaria. Fit seniors manage with ponies; others should not attempt it.
- Kedarnath and Badrinath: early June is still a good yatra window, with thinner crowds than May. From around 20 June, landslides on the Rishikesh–Badrinath and Gaurikund roads become more frequent, and helicopter flights pause in bad weather.
- Nainital and Mussoorie: busy until the middle of June with north Indian school holidays; the monsoon usually reaches them by the end of the month.
For yatra planning see the Char Dham Yatra package from Ahmedabad; for lakes and Mall Road, Nainital and Mussoorie packages.
Road closures and landslide risk: a June checklist
Hill roads in June are usually fine until the first heavy monsoon spell, then a single night of rain can block a road for hours or days. This is how we plan around it.
| Route | Typical June risk | Our precaution |
|---|---|---|
| Rishikesh – Badrinath / Gaurikund (Uttarakhand) | Landslides from late June | Early-June dates, one buffer day, flexible hotel bookings |
| Gangtok – Lachung (North Sikkim) | Road cuts after heavy rain, permits suspended at short notice | Keep North Sikkim optional; Gangtok and Pelling as the core |
| Shimla – Kinnaur (NH-5) | Rockfall near Nigulsari and Malling | Morning driving, no night stretches |
| Kiratpur – Manali | Slides near Mandi and Pandoh after heavy rain | First half of June, or fly to Bhuntar |
| Manali – Leh | Swollen streams in afternoons; occasional snow at Baralacha La | Cross early; overnight at Jispa or Sarchu |
| Jammu – Srinagar | Slides at Ramban; convoy timings during the Amarnath Yatra | Fly into Srinagar |
We also recommend travel insurance that covers trip interruption, and we keep the last night of any mountain trip close to the airport.
For rain lovers: Meghalaya, Coorg and Munnar in the monsoon
Meghalaya
Sohra (Cherrapunji) and Mawsynram get some of the heaviest rain on earth in June, and that is the reason to go: Nohkalikai, Seven Sisters and Elephant falls are at full flow, the living root bridges are wrapped in mist, and Shillong is cool at 18–24°C. Expect fog that hides views, slippery steps at Nongriat, and Dawki's river turning murky and boating sometimes stopping. Go for four to six nights with an easy pace. See North East packages from Ahmedabad.
Coorg and Chikmagalur
Pros: coffee estates at their greenest, Abbey and Iruppu falls roaring, homestay rates 20–40% lower than winter. Cons: steady rain, leeches on estate walks, and river rafting on the Barapole usually closed in heavy flow. Best for couples or families who are happy with a good homestay and long lunches. See Coorg and Ooty packages from Ahmedabad.
Munnar and the Kerala monsoon
Kerala calls June to August its monsoon Ayurveda season, when many centres run fixed-length treatment programmes. Munnar's tea slopes are wet and green, roads can be blocked for a few hours by small slides, and Alleppey houseboats run but with covered decks. Beaches are closed to swimming. Good for a quiet, discounted trip; not for children who want beach time. See Kerala packages from Ahmedabad.
Beaches in June: what changes in Andaman and Goa
- Andaman: the south-west monsoon brings swell from about mid-May to September. Scuba, snorkelling, sea walks and jet skis run only on calm days and can be suspended by operators or the administration; underwater visibility drops. Inter-island ferries run a reduced, weather-dependent schedule and individual sailings can be cancelled. If you go, keep a buffer day before the flight home and treat water sports as a bonus. Read Andaman packages from Ahmedabad and plan for October–April if diving is the main aim.
- Goa: the monsoon usually arrives in the first half of June. Lifeguards raise red flags and swimming is often banned; water sports and boat trips normally stop through the monsoon months. Many beach shacks close. Inland, Dudhsagar and the Western Ghats are spectacular. Good for a three-night resort break with friends; see Goa packages from Ahmedabad.
- Lakshadweep, Gokarna, Varkala: similar monsoon conditions; we do not suggest them for June.
June from Ahmedabad: the last week of vacation and after
Gujarat board schools are on vacation until 6 June 2027 and reopen the next day, so for most Ahmedabad families June offers a short window of 1–6 June. Couples, retired parents and families with college students have the whole month.
- 1–6 June with children: Kashmir (5–6 nights) or Manali with Sissu (5 nights) are the safest. Ladakh fits only if you fly in by 30 May.
- Mid-June, couples and friends: Ladakh, Spiti or a Manali–Leh drive; or Meghalaya if you want the rain.
- Retired parents: Kashmir with a houseboat night and short day trips, or Gulmarg and Pahalgam bases; avoid Uttarakhand roads in late June.
- Jain and pure-veg travellers: Leh and Srinagar handle veg and Jain meals well with notice. Camps in Nubra, Pangong and Spiti serve simple veg food; Jain-specific requests are possible but basic. We confirm meal plans in writing with every hotel.
- Close to home: Saputara is at its greenest once the monsoon arrives in late June, with the Gira falls nearby running full; Polo Forest in Idar is similar. Both work by road for two nights. See weekend getaways from Ahmedabad.
What to book early for June
- Leh flights and hotels: by February for the first three weeks of June.
- Valley of Flowers and Hemkund: Ghangaria guesthouses are few, book two to three months ahead.
- Amarnath: register as soon as the shrine board opens registration, usually in April.
- Monsoon stays in Coorg or Munnar can be booked later, often three to four weeks out, and still find discounts.
Every trip is private and customised to your dates, with your own car and driver. Planning a summer trip earlier in the vacation? Which is the best place to visit in June in India?
Ladakh is the strongest choice, because it sits in the rain shadow of the Himalaya and June brings warm days and open roads. Spiti and Kashmir are also mostly dry. Manali and Shimla are good in the first half of the month. For rain lovers, Meghalaya and Coorg are at their greenest.
Where can I travel in June without rain in India?
Ladakh, Spiti, Zanskar and Lahaul get very little monsoon rain, and the Kashmir valley has only occasional showers. Himachal and Uttarakhand stay mostly dry until the last week of June. Kerala, Goa, Karnataka coast, the North East and the Andaman Islands will be wet for most of the month.
When does the monsoon reach Kerala?
The India Meteorological Department gives 1 June as the normal date of monsoon onset over Kerala, with a variation of about a week either side. In 2026 it arrived on 4 June. The monsoon then moves north, normally reaching Mumbai around the second week of June and Gujarat in the second half of the month.
Is June a good time to visit Ladakh?
Yes, it is one of the best months. Leh is 12 to 27 degrees, both the Srinagar and Manali highways are normally open, and Pangong, Nubra and Tso Moriri are all accessible. It is also peak season, so book flights and hotels early and allow two days in Leh to acclimatise before going higher.
When does the Valley of Flowers open?
The Valley of Flowers National Park usually opens on 1 June and closes on 31 October; in 2026 it opened on 1 June. Entry is from 7 am to 2 pm and visitors must leave by 5 pm. In June you see green slopes and early blooms; the peak flowering is from mid-July to mid-August.
When does the Amarnath Yatra 2027 start?
The 2027 dates had not been announced as of November 2026. The Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board usually declares them in March or April. In 2026 the yatra ran from 3 July to 28 August, with advance registration from 15 April. Pilgrims need a compulsory health certificate, and the age band has been 13 to 70.
Is it safe to visit Uttarakhand in June?
The first half of June is generally fine for Kedarnath, Badrinath, Valley of Flowers and the hill towns. From around the last week of June, monsoon rain raises the risk of landslides and road blocks, and helicopter services pause in bad weather. Travel early in the month and keep one buffer day.
Can we do water sports in Andaman in June?
Only on calm days. During the south-west monsoon, scuba, snorkelling, sea walks and jet skis are weather-dependent and can be suspended at short notice, and underwater visibility is lower. Ferries between islands also run a reduced schedule. If water sports are the main goal, October to April is a far better time.
Is Goa worth visiting in June?
Only if you want a monsoon resort break. The monsoon usually reaches Goa in the first half of June, after which swimming is often banned, water sports stop and many shacks close. Hotels are cheap, the hinterland is green and Dudhsagar falls are spectacular, so it suits friends and couples rather than families.
Is Meghalaya good to visit in June?
Yes, if you enjoy rain. Sohra and Mawsynram receive extremely heavy rain in June, so waterfalls are at full flow and the hills are bright green, while Shillong stays around 18 to 24 degrees. Views are often hidden by fog, steps to the root bridges are slippery, and Dawki boating can stop when the river is high.
Which hill station is best in June for families from Gujarat?
For the 1 to 6 June window before Gujarat schools reopen, Kashmir and Manali with Sissu are the easiest, with direct or one-stop flights and short drives. Later in June, families with older children can choose Ladakh. Saputara is a good two-night road trip once the monsoon arrives in late June.
Is Kashmir crowded in June?
The first half of June is busy with school holidays from across India, and late June gets pilgrim traffic as the Amarnath Yatra approaches. Pahalgam and Sonamarg, the two yatra base routes, see the most pressure. Book hotels early, and if you only want sightseeing, aim for the first three weeks of June.
