International Trips Under ₹50,000 per Person: What Really Fits in 2026
A fixed budget of ₹50,000 per person, return flights included – here is which countries fit, how many nights you get, and the five line items that decide whether you stay under it.
Most people who search for a foreign holiday "under 50,000" have already decided the number; what they want to know is where that number actually takes them. The honest answer depends on four things: which airport you fly from, the month, how many nights you want, and whether ₹50,000 is meant to cover only flights and hotels or the whole trip including visa fees, transfers and sightseeing.
On this page ₹50,000 means everything except shopping and most meals, per person on twin sharing: return economy flights, a clean 3-star hotel with breakfast, airport transfers, the main sightseeing, and any visa, e-visa, permit or arrival levy. With that definition we list which countries fit comfortably, which fit only in certain months, how the money splits line by line, and the common mistakes that turn a ₹48,000 plan into a ₹62,000 bill. For a wider list of low-cost countries without a fixed cap, read our article on the cheapest international trips from India.

Which countries fit inside ₹50,000 per person
We sorted the usual short-haul options into three groups using the per-person bands our planners quote for low and shoulder seasons in 2026. "Fits" means a typical trip lands below ₹50,000 with a margin; "tight" means it fits only if the month and the airport are right.
| Destination | Trip that fits the budget | Typical all-in band | Verdict at ₹50,000 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nepal | 5 nights Kathmandu + Pokhara | ₹28,000 – 45,000 | Fits easily, even in October |
| Thailand | 4 nights Bangkok + Pattaya | ₹35,000 – 55,000 | Fits outside Diwali, Christmas and May |
| Malaysia | 4 nights Kuala Lumpur + Genting | ₹40,000 – 60,000 | Fits from the south, east and now Ahmedabad on AirAsia |
| Sri Lanka | 5 nights Kandy + Nuwara Eliya + Colombo | ₹40,000 – 65,000 | Tight; fits from Chennai, Kochi or Bengaluru |
| Vietnam | 5 nights Hanoi + Ha Long or Ho Chi Minh City + Mekong | ₹45,000 – 70,000 | Tight; works with a fare sale and one region only |
| Dubai | 4 nights city + desert safari | ₹45,000 – 70,000 | Fits only June to early September |
| Bhutan | 5 nights Phuentsholing + Thimphu + Paro by road | ₹45,000 – 75,000 | Tight; the road route via Bagdogra is what makes it fit |
| Bali | 5 nights Ubud + Kuta | ₹50,000 – 75,000 | Usually just over; possible in January–March with a sale fare |
| Azerbaijan | 4 nights Baku + one day trip | ₹55,000 – 85,000 | Over budget except from Delhi on a fare sale |
Singapore, the Maldives, Europe, Japan and Australia do not belong on a ₹50,000 list as full holidays from India in 2026. If one of those is the real wish, a budget of ₹75,000 to ₹1,00,000 per person is a more honest starting point, and we can plan to that instead.
How ₹50,000 splits, line by line
The table below shows a realistic split for the three trips that most often come in under budget. Figures are per person on twin sharing and rounded; children sharing a bed with parents cost less on hotels but the same on airfare.
| Line item | Nepal, 5N (from Delhi) | Thailand, 4N (from Ahmedabad) | Malaysia, 4N (from Chennai) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Return economy airfare | ₹12,000 – 16,000 | ₹20,000 – 26,000 | ₹14,000 – 20,000 |
| Hotels (3-star, breakfast, half of a twin room) | ₹6,500 – 10,000 | ₹7,000 – 11,000 | ₹8,000 – 12,000 |
| Airport transfers | ₹1,000 – 1,500 | ₹1,500 – 2,500 | ₹1,500 – 2,500 |
| Sightseeing and entry tickets | ₹5,000 – 8,000 (private car to Pokhara) | ₹4,000 – 7,000 (Coral Island, city tour) | ₹4,000 – 7,000 (Genting cable car, Batu Caves) |
| Visa, permit or arrival card | Nil | Nil (visa exemption, free TDAC) | Nil (visa exemption to 31 Dec 2026, free MDAC) |
| Travel insurance | ₹400 – 700 | ₹500 – 900 | ₹500 – 900 |
| Total | ₹25,000 – 36,000 | ₹33,000 – 47,000 | ₹28,000 – 42,000 |
The leftover between the total and ₹50,000 is your food and shopping money. Keep at least ₹6,000 to ₹10,000 per person aside for meals over four or five days; vegetarian and Jain food costs about the same as in an Indian metro in Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur, and less in Kathmandu.
Five things that push a trip over ₹50,000
- Travelling in an Indian peak week. Diwali, the Christmas–New Year fortnight and the May school holidays can add ₹8,000 to ₹15,000 per person on airfare alone, even to Thailand. Moving the trip by ten days is usually the cheapest saving available.
- A second region inside the same country. Adding Phuket to Bangkok, Langkawi to Kuala Lumpur, or Da Nang to Hanoi means an extra domestic flight and a hotel change. That is ₹5,000 to ₹9,000 per person that a ₹50,000 plan cannot absorb.
- Checked baggage on a low-cost fare. The cheapest fares include only a 7 kg cabin bag. Adding 15–20 kg in both directions can cost more than the gap to a full-service ticket, so compare the two before you book.
- Private transfers for every movement. A private car for sightseeing days is worth it for families and seniors; for the airport run a shared or app cab is fine. Using private vehicles for everything adds ₹3,000 to ₹6,000 per person on a short trip.
- Resort-style hotels. A 4-star pool resort in Pattaya or a hill resort in Nuwara Eliya is affordable by Indian standards but moves the hotel line from ₹8,000 to ₹15,000 or more. On a fixed budget, choose a well-located 3-star and spend the difference on one good experience.
Entry rules that cost nothing (and the ones that do)
Entry paperwork is where a budget plan either saves or quietly leaks money. The position below is for ordinary Indian passport holders on a tourist trip, as of October 2026; rules change – we check again before you book.
- Zero cost: Nepal (no visa; passport or original Voter ID), Thailand (30-day exemption since 15 September 2026, plus the free Thailand Digital Arrival Card filed within 72 hours of landing), Malaysia (30-day exemption currently running to 31 December 2026, plus the free Malaysia Digital Arrival Card) and Sri Lanka (the 30-day tourist ETA has been free for Indians since 25 May 2026, but you still apply online before flying).
- Small fixed cost: Vietnam e-visa at USD 25 for single entry; Bali visa on arrival or e-VOA at IDR 500,000 plus the separate Bali tourist levy of IDR 150,000.
- Per-night cost: Bhutan's Sustainable Development Fee of ₹1,200 per adult per night (₹600 for children aged 6–12), which adds ₹6,000 to a five-night trip.
- Agent-processed visa: the UAE tourist e-visa for Dubai, roughly ₹6,500 to ₹8,500 for 30 days including service charges, unless you already hold a valid US, UK or EU visa or residence permit that qualifies for visa on arrival.
Two practical warnings. First, copycat websites still charge for the free Sri Lanka ETA and the free arrival cards; use only the official portals or let us file them. Second, Thai immigration can ask to see a return ticket and about THB 20,000 per person in cash or card funds. Where a visa or e-visa is needed, we prepare and submit your application; approval is at the authority's discretion. The full country list is on our visa-free countries for Indians page.
Departure city and month: the two levers that matter most
Because airfare is 35% to 50% of a ₹50,000 trip, your airport decides more than the destination does. A direct budget-airline route from your city can save ₹8,000 to ₹12,000 per person compared with a connection through another hub.
| Flying from | Best bets under ₹50,000 | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Ahmedabad | Thailand, Dubai (summer), Malaysia | Non-stop Bangkok and Dubai flights; AirAsia restarted Ahmedabad – Kuala Lumpur non-stop on 25 Oct 2026, four times a week |
| Mumbai and Pune | Thailand, Dubai (summer), Sri Lanka | Many daily non-stops and frequent fare sales |
| Delhi | Nepal, Thailand, Bhutan by road | Short Kathmandu flight; Bagdogra for the Bhutan road route |
| Kolkata | Bhutan, Nepal, Thailand, Malaysia | Shortest hops to Bagdogra, Kathmandu and Bangkok |
| Chennai, Bengaluru, Kochi, Hyderabad | Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Thailand | Colombo is about 1.5 hours away; low-cost carriers to Kuala Lumpur |
For the month, the pattern is simple: avoid Indian school and festival peaks, and prefer the destination's shoulder season rather than its rainiest weeks. Late January to March and mid-July to September are the most reliable windows for staying under budget; for Dubai specifically, June to early September is the only time a four-night trip regularly fits.
Three ₹50,000 trips we plan often
Thailand for two friends from Ahmedabad, 4 nights in late February
Non-stop flight to Bangkok, two nights in Pattaya with the Coral Island speedboat trip, two nights in Bangkok with a city and temple tour, shared airport transfers and a private car for the Pattaya road leg. Around ₹40,000 to ₹46,000 per person, leaving room for meals and the night markets.
Nepal for parents from Delhi, 5 nights in March
Kathmandu for Pashupatinath, Boudhanath and Bhaktapur Durbar Square, then the drive to Pokhara for Phewa Lake and the Sarangkot sunrise, with a private car and driver throughout and pure-veg meals arranged in advance. About ₹30,000 to ₹38,000 per person.
Malaysia for a couple from Chennai, 4 nights in September
Kuala Lumpur city tour with the Petronas Towers and Batu Caves, a day up to Genting Highlands by cable car, and a 3-star hotel near a metro line. Roughly ₹32,000 to ₹40,000 per person; Langkawi can be added if you raise the budget by about ₹9,000 each.
Each is a private trip on your own dates with your own car where it matters. Final prices depend on the fare on the day we book, so we quote with today's live airfare rather than a brochure figure.

Which international trip can I do under ₹50,000 per person?
Nepal, Thailand (Bangkok and Pattaya) and Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur and Genting) fit under ₹50,000 per person including return flights in most months. Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Dubai in summer and Bhutan by road can fit when the month and departure airport are favourable. Peak weeks around Diwali and Christmas usually push all of them over.
Is ₹50,000 enough for Thailand from Ahmedabad?
Yes, for four nights in Bangkok and Pattaya outside Diwali, Christmas and May. Non-stop airfare is typically ₹20,000 to ₹26,000 return, and the rest of a 3-star trip with transfers and two tours comes to about ₹13,000 to ₹21,000. That leaves money for meals and shopping.
Can I visit Dubai for ₹50,000 per person?
Only in the hot months. From June to early September Dubai hotels drop sharply, and a four-night trip with flights, the e-visa, a desert safari and a city tour can come in around ₹45,000 to ₹50,000 per person. From November to March the same trip usually costs ₹60,000 to ₹70,000 or more.
How many nights can I get abroad for ₹50,000?
Usually four to five nights. Nepal and Vietnam stretch to six because hotels and food are cheaper, while Dubai and Bali are limited to four. Adding nights costs less than adding a second city, so stay longer in one place if you want more time without crossing the budget.
Does the ₹50,000 include flights and visa?
On this page, yes. The bands include return economy airfare, 3-star hotels with breakfast, airport transfers, main sightseeing, visa or permit fees and travel insurance. They exclude most lunches and dinners, shopping and optional activities, which is why we suggest keeping ₹6,000 to ₹10,000 per person aside.
Which is the cheapest of these for a family with children?
Nepal and Malaysia are usually the cheapest for families. Both have no visa fee for Indians at present, short flights from parts of India, and family rooms at modest rates. Thailand is close behind and has more for children, such as Safari World and Coral Island.
Is Bali possible under ₹50,000?
Only occasionally. Bali has low villa and food costs, but the flight usually needs one connection and the visa on arrival plus the Bali tourist levy add roughly ₹3,600. A five-night trip normally lands between ₹50,000 and ₹75,000 per person; January to March with a fare sale is the best chance to fit.
When should I book to stay under budget?
Book flights six to ten weeks ahead for short-haul Asia, and three to four months ahead if your dates touch Diwali, Christmas or the May holidays. Midweek departures are commonly cheaper than Friday evenings. We hold hotels while you decide, but airfare can only be locked once the ticket is issued.
Do Indians need a visa for Malaysia in 2026?
Not for tourism at present. Indian citizens get a 30-day visa-free stay under a scheme currently valid until 31 December 2026, and must fill in the free Malaysia Digital Arrival Card before arrival. For trips in 2027, wait for the extension announcement before buying non-refundable tickets. This is as of October 2026.
Can a couple do a foreign trip for ₹1 lakh total?
Yes. ₹1 lakh for two is the same as ₹50,000 per person, so Nepal, Thailand and Malaysia fit comfortably, and Sri Lanka or Vietnam fit in the right month. Couples who want a beach usually choose Thailand; those who want quiet hills and temples usually choose Nepal or Sri Lanka.
