Tour Packages from Chennai

The Andaman Islands two hours away, Southeast Asia within four, hill stations by overnight train – private trips for Chennai travellers, planned on WhatsApp and phone.

Chennai is the main gateway to the Andaman Islands, with several non-stop flights a day to Port Blair – about two hours each – and passenger ships from Chennai Port for those with time. It is also one of the best-connected cities for Southeast Asia: Colombo is about 1¼ hours away, Bangkok about 3½, and Singapore and Kuala Lumpur under four. At home, Pondicherry is a three-hour drive along the East Coast Road, the Nilgiri Express reaches the foot of the Ooty hills overnight, and Egmore's trains run to Madurai, Rameswaram and Kanyakumari.

Planning tips for travellers from Chennai

Chennai airport

Chennai International Airport at Meenambakkam has separate domestic and international terminals side by side, connected by a walkway. The terminal number is printed on your ticket; check it the night before. From Anna Nagar or the OMR IT corridor allow about an hour; the Metro to the airport station is often quicker in peak traffic.

Chennai Central or Egmore

Chennai Central (MGR Chennai Central) runs trains to the North, Kerala, Bengaluru, Mysuru and Coimbatore, including the Nilgiri Express towards Ooty. Chennai Egmore handles most trains to southern Tamil Nadu – Madurai, Rameswaram, Kanyakumari and the Kodaikanal Road station. Tambaram is convenient for south Chennai. Many families choose an overnight train for Ooty and Madurai trips and fly only for longer distances.

The northeast monsoon

Unlike most of India, Chennai gets its heaviest rain from October to December. Cyclones in November can disrupt flights and Andaman ships for a day or two, so we keep a buffer day before return flights in this period and choose Andaman dates from December onward when we can. December to March is the best window for Chennai travellers heading to the islands.

School holidays and festivals

Tamil Nadu schools usually close from late April to early June, with shorter breaks after the quarterly exams in late September and over Christmas and New Year. Pongal in mid-January brings a long weekend that fills Pondicherry, Ooty and Kodaikanal. Diwali and Christmas are peak times for Singapore, Thailand and Dubai departures from Chennai.

Tour Packages from Chennai: FAQs

Do you have an office in Chennai?

No. Vibrant Holidays is based in Ahmedabad, and our team plans trips for Chennai travellers remotely. We discuss your plan on WhatsApp or phone, send a PDF itinerary and quote, and share vouchers, hotel confirmations and driver details before departure. Payment is by bank transfer or UPI against an invoice, and our support line is available 24×7 during the trip.

What is the best way to reach the Andaman Islands from Chennai?

Flying is the practical option: non-stop flights to Port Blair take about two hours and run several times a day. Passenger ships from Chennai Port take about three days each way and run only a few times a month, so they suit travellers with time and flexible dates. We book the government or private ferries between Port Blair, Havelock and Neil.

When should Chennai travellers avoid the Andaman Islands?

The southwest monsoon from late May to September brings rough seas and occasional ferry cancellations, and November cyclones can disrupt both Chennai flights and island ferries. December to April is the best time, with calm seas for snorkelling and scuba diving. If you travel in October or November, keep a spare day before your return flight.

Which international trips are easiest from Chennai?

Sri Lanka is about 1¼ hours away, so even a four-night trip works well. Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore are each under four hours, and a Singapore and Malaysia combination is popular with Chennai families. Dubai is about four hours non-stop. We confirm current flight schedules for your dates and match hotel check-ins to them.

Are flights included in your tour packages from Chennai?

Most package prices on this page are land-only, because airfares from Chennai change daily. We can add flights, trains or Andaman ferries when you confirm, so that pick-up times and hotel check-ins match the actual schedule. If an airline reschedules a flight, the same team changes your transfers and hotel arrangements.

Can you arrange South Indian vegetarian food on trips?

Yes. We request vegetarian or Jain meals from hotels in advance and confirm them in writing before you pay. South Indian vegetarian food is easy in Kerala, Karnataka and Singapore, and Little India areas help in Kuala Lumpur too. In the Andaman Islands, Kashmir and Thailand choices are narrower, and we tell you honestly what to expect.

Do you run group tours from Chennai?

No. Every trip we plan is private and customised: your own dates, your own car and driver, and hotels you approve. Extended families and friends can travel as a private group on their own dates, and we plan vehicles, room combinations and pacing for that group. Local guides can be added for specific sightseeing days.
