Thailand Tour Packages from Chennai
Board in Chennai after dinner, land in Bangkok at sunrise – Thailand holidays shaped around overnight flights, Pongal and summer breaks, and South Indian vegetarian kitchens.
Chennai is one of the best-connected Indian cities for Thailand. Thai Airways, IndiGo and Thai AirAsia fly non-stop to Bangkok, and the flight is only about three and a half hours. The catch is the clock: almost every departure from Chennai leaves between late evening and the small hours, so you land in Bangkok around dawn after very little sleep. A good Thailand package from Chennai is built around that – an early hotel check-in, a gentle first day, and the big excursions saved for day two onwards.
This page is written for travellers from Chennai and the rest of Tamil Nadu. It covers what a trip really costs per person, the current flights and how they shape day one, Thailand's entry rules for Indians as of October 2026, three day-wise plans, the Pongal and summer holiday windows, a month-by-month table and where South Indian vegetarians will eat well. The packages listed show live prices. Trips are planned by our team in Ahmedabad over WhatsApp or phone, and every one is private – your own transfers and your own dates.

Airfare from Chennai: a return Chennai–Bangkok ticket is typically ₹14,000 to ₹24,000 per person when booked six to eight weeks out, lower on the low-cost Don Mueang flights and higher on full-service flights with baggage included. Phuket and Krabi add a domestic Thai sector of roughly ₹4,000 to ₹8,000 per person each way. Pongal week, the May vacation, Deepavali and Christmas–New Year push fares up by ₹8,000 to ₹15,000.
Paid in Thailand unless included: marine park fees on island days (about THB 200–400, cash), Safari World, Phuket's evening shows, the Chao Phraya dinner cruise, meals outside the plan, massages and tips. We list them on the quote with estimates, so you can choose before you travel rather than at the hotel desk.
Flights from Chennai and what overnight timings mean for day one
Current non-stop options
- Thai Airways (to Suvarnabhumi, BKK): a daily flight leaving Chennai around 1 am, landing in Bangkok around 6 am local time, plus an afternoon departure on some days that arrives in the evening. Full-service, with checked baggage and vegetarian meals on request.
- IndiGo (to Suvarnabhumi, BKK): a daily flight leaving in the early hours, roughly between 2.45 and 4 am depending on the day, landing mid-morning Bangkok time.
- Thai AirAsia (to Don Mueang, DMK): a late-night departure around 11.30 pm, landing before 5 am. Cheapest, but checked bags and meals cost extra. Thai Lion Air has also scheduled Chennai–Don Mueang flights from December 2026.
- Phuket and Krabi: there is no regular non-stop from Chennai on sale as we write; seasonal services have come and gone. The practical route is Chennai–Bangkok, then a 1¼-hour domestic flight to Phuket (HKT) or Krabi (KBV). We match the two flights to the same Bangkok airport.
- Time difference: Thailand is 1½ hours ahead of India, so a 1 am departure lands around 6 am local time.
How the red-eye shifts your plan
- Book the hotel from the night before or pay for guaranteed early check-in. Standard check-in is 2 or 3 pm; after a 1 am flight nobody wants to wait in a lobby for eight hours.
- Keep day one light: a nap, lunch, and an easy evening – a mall, a riverside walk or a cabaret show. Coral Island or Phi Phi go on day two.
- Going straight to Pattaya: from Suvarnabhumi it is about 1½–2 hours by road. Arriving at 6 am means a long morning, so we arrange breakfast on the way and early rooms.
- Connecting to Phuket the same morning: leave at least 2½ hours between landing and the domestic flight, more if you change airports.
- Coming home: return flights to Chennai usually leave Bangkok in the evening or late at night and land around midnight. Keep a late checkout or a day room on the last day so the family can rest and change.
- At Chennai airport: international departures are from the newer integrated terminal; reach three hours before a 1 am flight, which means leaving home around 9.30 pm from most parts of the city.
Thailand entry rules for Indians (as of October 2026)
Rules for Indian tourists have changed several times since 2023. The position on 27 October 2026 is below; rules change – we check before you book and again a week before departure.
- Visa-free stay of up to 30 days: from 15 September 2026 Thailand reduced visa-free entry for Indian ordinary passport holders from 60 days to 30 days. Tourism only – anyone travelling for work needs the correct visa.
- Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC): every traveller, children included, fills in the free online card within 72 hours before arrival. Use only the official immigration website; paid look-alike sites exist. We help you complete it.
- Documents at immigration: a passport valid for six months from arrival, a confirmed return ticket, hotel bookings for the whole stay and a clear itinerary. Officers can ask for proof of funds; Indian government guidance mentions THB 20,000 per person in cash.
- Families: each member should carry their own copy of tickets and hotel vouchers.
- Longer trips: if you plan to stay beyond 30 days, apply for a tourist visa (e-visa) before travel. We prepare and submit the application; approval is at the Thai authority's discretion.
- Banned items: e-cigarettes and vapes are illegal in Thailand.

Pongal, summer vacation and other Tamil Nadu holiday windows
- Pongal (mid-January): Bhogi, Thai Pongal, Mattu Pongal and Kaanum Pongal give most Chennai families four or five days off. Thailand is at its driest and best, so Phuket and Krabi are ideal – and busy. Book flights by October.
- Summer vacation (late April to early June): the Andaman coast moves into its monsoon from May, so island boats can be cancelled. Choose Bangkok–Pattaya or Koh Samui on the Gulf side for May, and keep Phuket for April.
- Quarterly and Ayudha Pooja breaks (late September–October): still wet in Phuket, but Bangkok and Pattaya work well and hotel rates are low.
- Deepavali (early November in 2026): the dry season is returning; flights out of Chennai fill quickly that week.
- Christmas holidays: peak prices from 20 December, excellent weather.
- Escaping Chennai's rains: the north-east monsoon soaks Chennai from October to December, just when Thailand's Andaman coast turns dry. A Phuket trip in late November or early December is a good way to swap rain for sun.

South Indian food and practical tips in Thailand
Idli, dosa and meals away from home
- Bangkok: the Sukhumvit area has several South Indian vegetarian restaurants serving dosa, idli, vada and full meals, and Pahurat, Bangkok's Little India, has Indian snack shops and sweet stalls. Near Silom, the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple – founded by Tamil settlers in the nineteenth century – is a familiar sight for Chennai visitors, with Tamil-run stalls nearby.
- Pattaya: many Indian restaurants along Second Road and Soi Buakhao; several make dosas and South Indian thalis.
- Phuket: Patong and Kata have Indian restaurants with vegetarian menus; South Indian dishes are fewer but available. On boat-tour days the buffet lunch is simple – we can arrange a packed vegetarian meal.
- Krabi: a handful of Indian restaurants in Ao Nang; ask in advance for Jain or no-onion-garlic food.
- Thai vegetarian: say "jay" for strict vegetarian food without fish sauce, egg or garlic; Thai jasmine rice with vegetable curry suits most Tamil palates. Curd rice lovers will find yoghurt and rice at 7-Eleven.
- Carry MTR or Chennai-made ready meals, thokku, podi and pickle for the first morning after the red-eye flight.
Practical tips
- Money: the baht trades at roughly ₹2.6–2.7. Use a forex card and carry the cash amount immigration may ask for; exchange extra rupees at licensed money changers in the city.
- Temple dress: shoulders and knees covered at the Grand Palace and Wat Pho; sarongs are sold outside.
- Heat: Bangkok in April feels like Chennai in May. Plan temples for 8–11 am.
- Boats: choose big-boat tours for elders; speedboats are bumpy.
- SIM: buy a tourist SIM or eSIM on arrival; Indian roaming packs also work.
- Safety: use Grab or metered taxis, avoid jet-ski rentals without photos of the machine, and keep passports in the hotel safe.

How much does a Thailand tour package from Chennai cost?
Our Thailand packages currently start at ₹13,000 per person for 2 nights. Most of our Thailand packages fall between ₹29,800 and ₹62,500 per person. The final cost depends on the travel month, hotel category, number of travellers and whether flights from {$from} are added. Open any package below to see exactly what is included, or ask us for a quote with flights.
Is there a direct flight from Chennai to Bangkok?
Yes. Thai Airways and IndiGo fly non-stop from Chennai to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, and Thai AirAsia flies non-stop to Don Mueang. The flight takes about 3 hours 25 to 40 minutes. Most departures are between late evening and early morning, so you usually land in Bangkok around sunrise.
Is there a direct flight from Chennai to Phuket?
Not on a regular basis as of October 2026; non-stop services have operated in some seasons but none is reliably on sale. The usual route is Chennai to Bangkok and a domestic flight of about 1 hour 15 minutes to Phuket or Krabi. We keep both legs on the same Bangkok airport and leave enough connection time.
Do Indians need a visa for Thailand from Chennai?
No visa is needed for tourism of up to 30 days. Thailand cut the visa-free stay for Indians from 60 to 30 days from 15 September 2026. You need a passport valid for six months, a return ticket, hotel bookings, funds and the Thailand Digital Arrival Card. Rules change, so we check them before you book.
When should we fill the Thailand Digital Arrival Card?
Within 72 hours before you land in Thailand, on the official immigration website; it is free. Every traveller, including children, needs one. For a 1 am flight from Chennai, fill it on the day before departure. We send you the link and help each family member complete it.
What happens on day one after an overnight flight from Chennai?
You land in Bangkok around 5 to 8 am local time with little sleep. Our packages include early check-in or a hotel booked from the previous night, then a light day – lunch, rest and an easy evening outing. The major tours such as Coral Island, Safari World or Phi Phi are kept for day two onwards.
How much does a Chennai–Bangkok flight cost?
A return ticket typically costs ₹14,000 to ₹24,000 per person when booked six to eight weeks ahead. Low-cost flights to Don Mueang are cheapest but charge for bags; full-service flights include them. Expect ₹8,000 to ₹15,000 more around Pongal, the May vacation, Deepavali and Christmas.
Is Thailand good for the Pongal holidays?
Yes. Mid-January is Thailand's best weather, with calm seas in Phuket and Krabi and cooler days in Bangkok. It is also high season, so flights from Chennai and good beach hotels sell out. Book by October for Pongal travel; four or five nights fits the holiday well.
Is Thailand suitable for the summer vacation in May?
Partly. May is the start of the monsoon on the Andaman coast, so Phuket and Krabi boat tours may be cancelled on rough days. Bangkok and Pattaya work all year, and Koh Samui on the Gulf side stays drier. For a beach-focused trip, travel in April instead.
Can we get South Indian vegetarian food in Thailand?
Yes. Bangkok's Sukhumvit area has South Indian vegetarian restaurants serving dosa, idli and meals, and Pattaya and Phuket have Indian restaurants with South Indian dishes. On island tours lunch is a basic buffet, so we arrange packed vegetarian meals on request. Jain food is possible with notice.
How many days are enough for Thailand from Chennai?
Four nights covers Bangkok and Pattaya. Five nights suits Bangkok with Phuket, and six nights Phuket with Krabi. Because the outbound flight is overnight, the first day is lighter than usual, so add a night if you want to fit Phi Phi, James Bond Island and Bangkok shopping comfortably.
Can a large family from Chennai travel together in Thailand?
Yes. Every trip is private and customised, so joint families and friends travel as a private group on their own dates with a private van and guide where needed. We choose big-boat island tours for elders, connecting rooms where possible and restaurants with vegetarian menus.
