Europe Trip Cost from India: The Full 2026 Budget in Rupees

Airfare, the Schengen visa and insurance, hotels in Paris, Switzerland and Italy, trains and the Swiss Travel Pass, Jungfraujoch and the Eiffel Tower, Indian meals, city taxes and the TCS on your payment – every line of a private Europe holiday, totalled.

Packages from₹53,999 per person
10 nights, mid-rangeAbout ₹2.8 – 4.1 lakh per person, flights included
Visa and insuranceAbout ₹12,500 – 18,000 per adult (November 2026)
Exchange rateAbout ₹106 to the euro, ₹116 to the Swiss franc
Biggest swingHotel class, season and how much of Switzerland you include

The short answer: a 10-night Europe trip cost from India – Paris, Switzerland and Italy, the route most first-time Indian travellers choose – is about ₹1.9 to 2.8 lakh per person on a careful budget, ₹2.8 to 4.1 lakh mid-range, and ₹4.6 lakh upward with four- and five-star hotels in central locations, first-class rail and private transfers. Those figures include return economy flights, the Schengen visa and insurance, hotels with breakfast, all trains and the Swiss Travel Pass, the main mountain excursions and museums, meals, city taxes and a SIM. A couple pays double; a family of four pays a little less than four times, because children get visa, rail and ticket discounts.

Europe prices in India are hard to compare because so many headline figures are for coach tours, where forty people share a bus and hotels are often an hour outside town. We plan only private trips, on your own dates, so this guide prices a private trip honestly, line by line. Euro and franc amounts are converted at about ₹106 to the euro and ₹116 to the Swiss franc, the rates in late October and early November 2026; visa information is as of November 2026 – fees and rules change, and we check them again before you book. For itineraries with live land prices, see our Europe tour packages.

Europe trip cost at a glance: 10 nights per person

Per person, two adults sharing a room, 10 nights (Paris 3, Switzerland 4, Italy 3), travelling in April–May or September–October, flights booked about three months ahead.

StyleWhat you getPer personFor a couple
BudgetOne-stop flights, 3-star hotels a little outside the centre, second-class trains, Swiss Half Fare Card or a short pass, one big mountain excursion₹1,94,000 – 2,78,000₹3,88,000 – 5,56,000
Mid-rangeGood one-stop or non-stop flights, central 3-star superior or 4-star hotels, Swiss Travel Pass, Jungfraujoch and Titlis, Seine cruise, Venice₹2,80,000 – 4,12,000₹5,60,000 – 8,24,000
PremiumFull-service or premium-economy flights, 4-star superior and 5-star hotels, first-class rail, private transfers and some chauffeur days₹4,62,000 – 8,30,000₹9,24,000 – 16,60,000

Hotels are the biggest line – often a third of the bill – followed by airfare and then Switzerland, where trains and mountain railways alone can cost more than your visa and insurance together.

Return flights to Europe from Indian cities

Return economy fares per person, booked two to three months ahead, as seen in November 2026. "Open-jaw" tickets – into Paris, out of Rome or Zurich – usually cost about the same as a simple return and save a day of back-tracking.

FromTypical routingShoulder seasonMay – June, Christmas
DelhiThe widest choice of non-stops – London, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Zurich, Vienna and others – plus Gulf and European one-stops₹50,000 – 75,000₹80,000 – 1,20,000

Kolkata, PuneOne stop via the Gulf or an Indian hub₹58,000 – 90,000₹90,000 – 1,35,000

Children aged 2 to 11 often pay 75 to 90% of the adult fare on international routes; infants about 10%. Bags: full-service carriers include 23 – 30 kg in economy, which matters for families carrying Indian food and winter clothing; the cheapest European fares on budget airlines between cities often do not.

Schengen visa, insurance and the entry rules in rupees

Item (as of November 2026)AdultChild 6 – 11

Optional: courier, SMS, premium lounge₹500 – 4,000₹500 – 4,000
Typical total₹12,500 – 18,000₹8,000 – 12,500
  • One visa covers Paris, Switzerland and Italy. The United Kingdom is outside Schengen and needs its own visa with a separate fee, so adding London adds both cost and paperwork.
  • ETIAS is not for Indians. It is a travel authorisation for visa-free nationalities, and its launch has slipped again, now expected in 2027. Indian passport holders need the Schengen visa; any site charging Indians for "ETIAS" is wrong or a scam.
  • EES biometrics are now taken at your first Schengen border crossing – fingerprints and a photo – at no cost, but allow extra time at the airport.
  • Not refundable on refusal. The fee, service charge and usually the insurance are lost if a visa is refused. We prepare and submit your application with a complete file; approval is the embassy's decision. The full process is on our Schengen visa guide for Indians.

Hotel costs in Paris, Switzerland and Italy

Per double room per night with breakfast, April–June and September–October. Prices in July, August and over Christmas are often 20 – 40% higher; Swiss mountain villages peak in winter as well.

  • City tax is added at the hotel: from about €1 – 5 per person per night in most 3- and 4-star hotels, higher in luxury hotels. Paris and Rome are among the dearer cities for this.
  • Room sizes are small. Triple and family rooms exist but are limited in Paris and Venice; families of four often need two rooms or an apartment-hotel.
  • Location is a cost too. A cheaper hotel 40 minutes out means daily metro or taxi fares and less energy in the evening; for a first trip a central hotel usually pays for itself.

  • The Swiss Travel Pass covers most trains, buses and lake boats, gives free travel on Rigi and Stanserhorn, and roughly half off many mountain railways. Children under 16 travel free with a parent on the free Swiss Family Card.
  • A Half Fare Card can be cheaper than a full pass if you stay in one base, such as Interlaken, and make two or three excursions.
  • Typical 10-night total for trains, the pass and two airport transfers: about ₹35,000 – 50,000 per person on a budget, ₹50,000 – 75,000 mid-range, and ₹90,000 – 1,60,000 with first class and some chauffeur days.

Sightseeing tickets: what the big names cost

Adult prices as of November 2026, rounded; many attractions price by date and time slot, so book ahead.

Vatican Museums and Sistine ChapelAbout €20 – 30 booked online₹2,100 – 3,200

Jungfraujoch alone is often the most expensive single ticket of the trip. A mid-range plan with Jungfraujoch, Titlis, the Eiffel summit, a Seine cruise, Venice and the Vatican comes to about ₹30,000 – 50,000 per person; leave out one of the two big Swiss mountains and you save ₹10,000 or more each.

Food, SIM, forex and tax

  • Indian restaurants exist in every city on this route – Paris, Interlaken, Lucerne, Zurich, Milan, Venice, Florence, Rome. A vegetarian thali or main course with bread costs about €18 – 30 (₹1,900 – 3,200) per person in France and Italy, CHF 30 – 45 (₹3,500 – 5,200) in Switzerland.
  • Local food on a budget: pizza, pasta, crêpes or supermarket meals cost about €8 – 15 a person; tap water is free and safe in most places.
  • Daily food budget per person, breakfast at the hotel: about ₹2,000 – 3,000 eating simply, ₹3,000 – 5,000 with one Indian meal a day, ₹5,000 – 9,000 with restaurant dinners and wine.
  • Jain and pure-veg travellers: Jain meals are available mostly at Indian restaurants and need a call ahead; many families also carry ready-to-eat Indian food for Swiss mountain days, where choice is thin.
  • Mobile data: a Europe eSIM bought in India costs about ₹1,500 – 3,000 for two weeks; Indian roaming packs are usually dearer.
  • Forex: carry a multi-currency forex card loaded with both euros and francs; Switzerland does not use the euro, though many shops accept it at a poor rate.
  • TCS and GST: since 1 April 2026, Tax Collected at Source on an overseas tour package is 2% from the first rupee. It is adjusted against your income tax when you file your return, so it is not a final cost. GST at 5% applies to the package invoice; forex for your own travel attracts no TCS up to ₹10 lakh in a financial year.

Shopping – watches, chocolates, perfumes, designer outlets – is not counted, and on Europe trips it is often the biggest overspend. Non-EU visitors can claim back part of the VAT on larger purchases at the airport; keep the forms.

Unlike Asia trips, Europe's extra nights are not cheap, because hotels and daily costs are high. The saving comes from moving less: four cities in ten nights costs more in trains and lost half-days than three. If you are deciding between Europe and a shorter haul, our honeymoon destinations abroad guide compares costs on the same basis.

Family of four: 10 nights, mid-range

Two adults and two children aged 6 to 11, two rooms or a family room, the same Paris – Switzerland – Italy route.

Cost lineFor the family
Return flights, four seats₹2,20,000 – 3,20,000
Visas, service charges, insurance₹40,000 – 56,000
Hotels, 10 nights₹2,45,000 – 3,50,000
Trains and transfers (children free in Switzerland with the Family Card)₹1,20,000 – 1,80,000
Sightseeing (children's prices)₹84,000 – 1,40,000
Food₹96,000 – 1,60,000
City tax, SIMs, sundries₹15,000 – 25,000
Total₹8,20,000 – 12,31,000

That is about ₹2.05 – 3.1 lakh per head, against ₹2.8 – 4.1 lakh for an adult in a couple. Travelling in late August or the October school break is cheaper than May – June, when every Indian family heads to Switzerland at once.

When Europe costs least

MonthsWeather and crowdsPrice level
April – early MaySpring flowers, cool mountains, some snow at the top stationsModerate; good value
Mid-May – JuneIndian school holidays; Swiss trains and Paris busy with Indian familiesHigh, especially airfare
July – AugustHot in Italy and Paris, European holidaysHigh for hotels
September – OctoberMild, clear, fewer crowdsModerate; the best balance
November – MarchCold, short days; Christmas markets; Alpine snowLow in cities except Christmas–New Year; high in ski resorts

Ten ways to lower your Europe trip cost

  1. Travel in September, October or April rather than May – June.
  2. Apply for the visa early – appointment slots in spring vanish, and a late file pushes you into dearer last-minute flights.
  3. Book flights three to four months ahead for summer and look at open-jaw routings.
  4. Choose three bases, not five. Fewer hotel changes mean fewer trains, taxis and lost half-days.
  5. Pick one of Jungfraujoch or Titlis if budget is tight; both are wonderful, but one big mountain is enough for many families.
  6. Match the Swiss pass to your plan – a Half Fare Card, a shorter pass or a regional pass can beat the full pass.
  7. Use the Swiss Family Card so children under 16 ride free with you.
  8. Eat one Indian meal a day and keep lunch simple.
  9. Stay central but not grand: a well-located 3-star superior often beats a distant 4-star.
  10. Ask for an itemised quote – named hotels, rail class, which tickets are included – so a low headline price is not hiding missing lines.

Europe Trip Cost: FAQs

What is the total Europe trip cost from India per person?

For 10 nights covering Paris, Switzerland and Italy, expect about ₹1.9 to 2.8 lakh per person on a budget, ₹2.8 to 4.1 lakh mid-range and ₹4.6 lakh or more for premium hotels and first-class rail. That includes flights, visa, insurance, hotels, trains, main tickets, meals and a SIM, as of November 2026, but not shopping.

Can I do a Europe trip in ₹1.5 lakh?

Only a short and careful one. A 6 or 7 night trip to one or two countries, outside May – June, with sale fares, 3-star hotels outside the centre, second-class trains and simple meals can come close to ₹1.5 to 1.6 lakh per person. A first trip with Switzerland usually needs ₹2 lakh or more.

How much does a Europe trip cost for a couple from India?

A 10-night mid-range trip for two costs about ₹5.6 to 8.2 lakh together, flights included. A 7-night Paris and Switzerland trip is roughly ₹4.4 to 6.5 lakh for two. Budget versions are about 30% lower, mainly through cheaper hotels and fewer mountain excursions. Premium trips with five-star hotels and first-class rail start at roughly ₹9 lakh for two.

What is the Schengen visa fee for Indians in 2026?

As of November 2026, the Schengen visa fee is €90 for adults, about ₹9,550, and €45 for children aged 6 to 11; children under 6 pay no visa fee. The visa centre adds a service charge of about ₹2,000 to 3,000. With insurance, budget ₹12,500 to 18,000 per adult. Fees are not refunded if a visa is refused.

Do Indians need ETIAS for Europe?

No. ETIAS is for travellers from countries that do not need a Schengen visa. Indians need a Schengen visa, which ETIAS does not replace. Its launch has also been postponed and was expected in 2027 as of the latest reports. Any website asking an Indian passport holder to pay for ETIAS should be avoided.

How much is the flight ticket from India to Europe?

As of November 2026, return economy fares usually cost about ₹50,000 to 90,000 per person when booked two to three months ahead in spring or autumn, depending on the city. Delhi and Mumbai have the most non-stops and often the lowest fares. In May – June and at Christmas, expect ₹80,000 to 1.35 lakh.

Is the Swiss Travel Pass worth it?

Usually, for four or more days of moving around Switzerland. In 2026 a second-class pass costs CHF 254 for 3 days and CHF 309 for 4, about ₹29,500 and ₹36,000. It covers trains, buses and lake boats, frees some mountains and halves many others. Staying in one base with few excursions, a Half Fare Card can be cheaper.

How much money should I carry for Europe per day?

With hotels, trains and main tickets prepaid, budget about €40 to 80 per person a day for meals, local transport, small tickets and city tax, more in Switzerland. Carry a forex card with both euros and Swiss francs and a little cash in each; cards are accepted almost everywhere, including small cafés.

Is Switzerland the most expensive part of a Europe trip?

Usually, yes. Hotels in Interlaken, Lucerne and Zermatt cost more than in Paris or Rome for the same class, and mountain excursions such as Jungfraujoch cost about ₹23,000 to 29,000 each before discounts. Four Swiss nights often cost as much as six nights in Italy, so the number of Swiss nights shapes the total.

What is the cheapest time to visit Europe from India?

November to March, apart from Christmas and New Year, has the lowest city hotel rates, though days are short and cold. For good weather at a fair price, April and September to October are the best balance. Mid-May to June is the most expensive time for Indians because school holidays drive up fares.

Do I pay TCS on a Europe package?

Yes. Since 1 April 2026, an overseas tour package bought in India attracts 2% Tax Collected at Source from the first rupee. It is not a final cost: it is adjusted against your income tax or refunded when you file your return. GST also applies to the package invoice. Forex for your own travel has no TCS up to ₹10 lakh a year.

Is a Europe package cheaper than booking myself?

Not necessarily. Flights and trains cost much the same either way. Packages help most with contracted hotel rates in peak months, a visa file prepared properly, and one number to call when a train is cancelled or a mountain closes. Compare quotes by named hotels, rail class and which tickets are included.
