Leh Ladakh Trip Cost: The Complete 2026 Budget
Air tickets to Leh, the two rest days nobody prices in, hotels and Pangong camps, the Leh taxi that does the whole circuit, environment fees, oxygen and food – added up for couples, families and groups of friends.
The short answer: a 6-night Leh Ladakh trip cost for two people flying from Delhi is about ₹74,000 to 1.17 lakh on a budget, ₹1.01 to 1.62 lakh mid-range, and ₹1.9 lakh upward for boutique hotels and luxury camps. Those totals cover return flights, two rest nights in Leh, hotels and camps with breakfast and dinner, a Leh-registered SUV with driver for Nubra and Pangong, environment and wildlife fees, monastery tickets, lunches, an oxygen cylinder in the car and small extras.
Ladakh is the one Indian trip where the group size changes the per-person cost dramatically. The vehicle is the largest single line after flights, and one SUV takes up to six people for the same price. A couple pays the whole car; six friends split it. This guide shows the full budget line by line, then per person for two, four and six travellers, then for longer and road-trip plans. Prices are ranges as of November 2026; Ladakh's union taxi rates are revised every season, and the fee rules have changed more than once, so our team confirms both with our Leh partner before you book. For ready-made itineraries with live prices, see our Leh Ladakh tour packages.

Leh Ladakh trip cost at a glance (couple, 6 nights)
Two adults, 6 nights and 7 days: three nights in Leh (two of them for acclimatisation), two in Nubra, one at Pangong, flying from Delhi between June and September.
| Style | What it includes | Total for two | Per person |
|---|---|---|---|
| Budget | Guesthouse or 3-star in Leh, standard camps with attached bath, Scorpio or Xylo-type SUV | ₹74,000 – 1,17,000 | ₹37,000 – 58,500 |
| Mid-range | 4-star or good 3-star in Leh, deluxe camps or cottages, Innova-type SUV, rafting or ATV | ₹1,01,000 – 1,62,000 | ₹50,500 – 81,000 |
| Premium | Boutique or five-star in Leh, luxury glamping in Nubra and Pangong, Innova Crysta | ₹1,87,000 – 3,14,000 | ₹93,500 – 1,57,000 |
Two lines decide where you land in each range: your airfare (seats to Leh sell out fast in June) and the camp class at Pangong, where a basic tent and a heated luxury cottage can differ by ₹20,000 a night.
Flights to Leh from Indian cities
Return economy per person to Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, Leh (IXL), booked six to eight weeks ahead, as seen in October–November 2026. Leh flights land only in the morning, because afternoon winds make later landings unsafe – so from most cities the realistic plan is an overnight in Delhi or Mumbai first.
| From | How you get there | Return fare per person |
|---|---|---|
| Delhi | Several non-stops a day in season (Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet), about 1¼ hours | ₹9,000 – 22,000 |
| Mumbai | IndiGo non-stop once a day in season, about 3 hours; else via Delhi | ₹14,000 – 32,000 |
| Ahmedabad | Via Delhi or Mumbai; a Delhi night is usually sensible | ₹18,000 – 35,000 |
| Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Pune | One stop, almost always via Delhi | About ₹20,000 – 38,000 |
Peak: late May to June, when school holidays meet the opening of the high passes, fares can cross ₹30,000 even from Delhi. Hidden cost: a same-day connection means a 3 am start, so we usually add a Delhi airport-hotel night, about ₹4,000 – 8,000 per room. City pages cover the details: Ladakh from Delhi and Ladakh from Mumbai.
The acclimatisation nights: cheap, but non-negotiable
Leh sits at about 3,500 metres. Flying in takes you from near sea level to that height in an hour, and the first 36 to 48 hours decide whether the rest of the trip goes well. Every sensible budget includes two quiet days in Leh before Khardung La (about 5,300 m) and Pangong.
- What they cost: two extra hotel nights and meals – about ₹6,000 – 10,000 for a couple in the mid-range – but little or no car use. Day one is complete rest; day two a short drive to Shanti Stupa, Leh Palace or the Hall of Fame.
- What skipping them costs: acute mountain sickness can mean a lost day in bed, a hospital visit, or flying home early. That is far dearer than two nights in Leh.
- Medication: some doctors prescribe acetazolamide (Diamox) before travel; take it only on your own doctor's advice, especially for seniors or anyone with heart or lung conditions.
- The road alternative: arriving by road from Srinagar or Manali spreads the climb over two days, so you need less rest in Leh – but you pay for more vehicle days, as shown below.
Hotels and camps: cost per night by tier
Per room per night for two adults, with breakfast and dinner (the standard plan in Ladakh), including GST, June to September.
| Tier | Leh | Nubra (Hunder, Diskit, Turtuk) | Pangong (Spangmik, Merak, Man) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Budget | ₹2,500 – 4,500 guesthouse or 3-star | ₹3,000 – 5,000 standard camp or homestay | ₹3,000 – 5,500 standard camp |
| Mid-range | ₹5,500 – 10,000 | ₹6,000 – 10,000 deluxe camp or cottage | ₹6,500 – 11,000 deluxe camp or cottage |
| Premium | ₹14,000 – 30,000 boutique or five-star | ₹15,000 – 30,000 luxury glamping | ₹16,000 – 32,000 heated luxury camp |
- Six nights for two therefore cost about ₹18,000 – 30,000 budget, ₹36,000 – 60,000 mid-range and ₹1,00,000 – 1,80,000 premium.
- Pangong is cold every night, even in July. Ask whether the camp has electric blankets or heaters and running hot water; some standard camps have power only in the evening.
- Homestays in Nubra and Turtuk are the cheapest beds and often the best food; facilities are simple.
- Shoulder months (May and late September to October) bring 15 – 30% lower rates, but many Pangong camps close from mid-October.
The vehicle: Leh taxi rules and what the circuit costs
Ladakh's taxi unions require tourists to use Leh-registered taxis for sightseeing. A car from Delhi, Manali or Srinagar can bring you to Leh, but it cannot normally take you around Nubra and Pangong, and rented self-drive cars and bikes from outside Ladakh face the same restriction. The price is set by the union's rate list for each route, revised each season.
| Vehicle (Leh-registered, with driver) | Fly-in circuit, about 6 days | Seats |
|---|---|---|
| Scorpio, Xylo or similar | ₹30,000 – 38,000 | Up to 6 |
| Innova | ₹32,000 – 42,000 | Up to 6 |
| Innova Crysta | ₹38,000 – 50,000 | Up to 6 |
| Tempo Traveller | ₹55,000 – 80,000 | 9 – 12 |
- The circuit means airport transfers, local Leh and Sham valley sightseeing, Leh – Khardung La – Nubra, Nubra – Shyok – Pangong, and Pangong – Chang La – Leh. Adding Turtuk, Tso Moriri or Hanle adds a day or two at the daily rate.
- Night halts in Nubra and Pangong are included in union rates; the driver's room and food are his own arrangement.
- Oxygen: a cylinder in the vehicle costs about ₹1,500 – 3,000 for the trip; small cans for the bag cost ₹500 – 900 each in Leh.
- Bikers: a Royal Enfield rented in Leh costs roughly ₹1,500 – 2,500 a day plus fuel; a backup vehicle for a group adds the cost of a taxi.
Permits and fees for Indian travellers
Indian citizens no longer need an Inner Line Permit in the old sense; it was withdrawn in 2021. What remains is a set of fees, paid online on the Ladakh administration's portal (lahdclehpermit.in) and checked at posts on the way to Nubra, Pangong, Tso Moriri and Hanle. Published amounts differ between sources, so treat these as approximate, as of November 2026:
| Fee | Per person (approx.) | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Environment fee | About ₹400 | Once per trip |
| Wildlife protection fee | About ₹20 a day | Per day in the protected areas |
| Red Cross contribution | About ₹50 – 100 | Once; amounts quoted vary |
| Typical 7-day total | About ₹600 – 700 | Children under 12 are usually exempt but must carry ID |
- Foreign nationals in your party need a Protected Area Permit, applied through a registered Leh agent, with its own fee.
- Carry the printout and original photo ID, plus four or five photocopies each; mobile data is patchy at the check posts.
- Our practice: we pay the fees as part of the package, and our operations team confirms the current rules and amounts with our Leh partner before you travel. Ignore websites that sell "Ladakh permits" at a large mark-up.
Sightseeing tickets and activity prices
| Item | Approximate cost per person |
|---|---|
| Monastery entry (Thiksey, Hemis, Diskit, Lamayuru and others) | About ₹30 – 100 each |
| Leh Palace, Hall of Fame, museums | About ₹25 – 300 each |
| Double-humped camel ride, Hunder dunes | A few hundred rupees for a short ride |
| ATV ride, Nubra | About ₹1,000 – 2,000 |
| Indus or Zanskar river rafting with transfers | About ₹1,500 – 3,500 depending on the stretch |
| Ladakhi cultural evening or home dinner | About ₹500 – 1,500 |
A couple doing the main monasteries, the Hall of Fame and a camel ride spends about ₹2,000 – 4,000 including fees; add rafting and an ATV ride and it is closer to ₹6,000 – 8,000.
Food, mobile network and the small lines
- Meals: breakfast and dinner come with the room. Lunch on drive days is at roadside dhabas and cafés – about ₹300 – 600 per person for thukpa, momos, rajma-rice or parathas.
- Vegetarian and Jain: vegetarian food is easy in Leh; in Nubra and Pangong camps the menu is simple and set. Jain meals need advance requests, and onion- and garlic-free cooking is not always possible in remote camps – we say where.
- Mobile: only postpaid connections work in Ladakh; prepaid SIMs from other states do not. Coverage fades in Nubra and is limited at Pangong. Leh cafés and hotels have Wi-Fi, often slow.
- Cash: ATMs are in Leh and Diskit; carry enough cash for Pangong, where cards are not always accepted.
- Insurance: about ₹300 – 1,000 per person; choose a policy that covers high altitude and medical evacuation.
- Tips: ₹300 – 500 a day for the driver is customary if you are happy with him.
Line-by-line budget: couple, 6 nights, flying from Delhi
| Cost line (for two) | Budget | Mid-range | Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| Return flights Delhi – Leh | ₹18,000 – 30,000 | ₹22,000 – 36,000 | ₹28,000 – 44,000 |
| Hotels and camps, 6 nights with breakfast and dinner | ₹18,000 – 30,000 | ₹36,000 – 60,000 | ₹1,00,000 – 1,80,000 |
| Leh-registered SUV for the circuit | ₹30,000 – 42,000 | ₹30,000 – 42,000 | ₹38,000 – 50,000 |
| Fees, monasteries, activities | ₹2,000 – 4,000 | ₹4,000 – 8,000 | ₹6,000 – 12,000 |
| Lunches and snacks | ₹4,000 – 7,000 | ₹6,000 – 10,000 | ₹10,000 – 18,000 |
| Oxygen, tips, insurance | ₹2,000 – 4,000 | ₹3,000 – 6,000 | ₹5,000 – 10,000 |
| Total for two | ₹74,000 – 1,17,000 | ₹1,01,000 – 1,62,000 | ₹1,87,000 – 3,14,000 |
From Mumbai, add about ₹10,000 – 20,000 to the couple's total; from Ahmedabad or the southern and eastern cities, about ₹18,000 – 32,000, plus a Delhi hotel night if you take one.
Per person for 2, 4 or 6 travellers
Same 6-night mid-range plan from Delhi. Rooms are twin-sharing; one SUV up to six people.
| Group | Vehicle | Per person, all in | Group total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Couple | One SUV for two | ₹50,500 – 81,000 | ₹1,01,000 – 1,62,000 |
| Family or friends of four | One SUV, two rooms | ₹43,000 – 70,500 | ₹1,72,000 – 2,82,000 |
| Six friends | One SUV, three rooms (tight for luggage) | ₹41,000 – 68,000 | ₹2,46,000 – 4,08,000 |
| Eight to ten people | Tempo Traveller | About ₹42,000 – 69,000 | Depends on the group |
For six adults with full-size bags, two SUVs are more comfortable than one, which brings the per-person cost back close to the four-person row. Children over two pay close to the adult fare on domestic flights, but can share their parents' room with an extra bed for about ₹1,000 – 2,000 a night.
5, 6, 7 nights or a road trip: how the total changes
| Couple, mid-range, flights included | Approx. total for two | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 5 nights fly-in (one Nubra night) | ₹92,000 – 1,48,000 | Tight; only for fit adults |
| 6 nights fly-in | ₹1,01,000 – 1,62,000 | The standard plan above |
| 7 nights fly-in (extra Leh night or Sham valley) | ₹1,08,000 – 1,74,000 | Best for children and seniors |
| 8 nights, adds Turtuk or Tso Moriri | ₹1,20,000 – 1,93,000 | Extra vehicle days |
| 9 – 10 nights by road: Srinagar or Manali in, fly out of Leh | ₹1,80,000 – 2,70,000 | One-way vehicle, Kargil or Jispa/Sarchu nights |
A rest night in Leh adds only about ₹7,000 – 12,000 for a couple because the car stays parked. A night further out adds ₹12,000 – 19,000, since the vehicle works that day too. Road trips cost more mainly because a one-way vehicle from Manali or Srinagar charges for its empty return journey.
When the roads are open
Flights to Leh run all year. The Manali–Leh highway is open roughly from June to October: in 2026 the Border Roads Organisation connected it end to end in mid-May, and normal two-way traffic resumed on 1 June. It usually closes between late October and mid-November once snow settles on Baralacha La. The Srinagar–Leh road over Zojila generally reopens between March and early May and stays open into late autumn. Pangong, Nubra and most camps work best from late May to September; from November to March the trip is a winter one – frozen Pangong, very few camps, and lower hotel rates in Leh.
Eight ways to keep the Ladakh budget sensible
- Fill the car. Travelling as four or six on your own private trip lowers the per-person cost more than any hotel choice.
- Book June flights by March. Leh fares rise steeply as the season fills.
- Go in early September. Clear skies, open roads and lower rates than June, before Pangong camps start closing.
- Keep the two rest days in Leh, where rooms are cheapest, rather than adding nights at Pangong.
- Splurge on one camp only – usually Pangong, where comfort matters most at night.
- Use homestays in Turtuk and Nubra if you are happy with simple rooms.
- Fly both ways unless the road journey itself is the point; one-way road plans cost more than they look.
- Compare quotes on the same basis: named hotels and camps, vehicle model, rest nights, fees and oxygen included.

What is the total Leh Ladakh trip cost for a couple?
For 6 nights with flights from Delhi, a couple usually spends about ₹74,000 to 1.17 lakh on a budget, ₹1.01 to 1.62 lakh mid-range and ₹1.9 lakh or more with boutique hotels and luxury camps. That includes flights, two rest nights, hotels and camps with meals, a Leh SUV with driver, fees, tickets, lunches and oxygen.
Is ₹50,000 per person enough for Ladakh?
Usually yes, for a 6-night fly-in trip from Delhi in budget or lower mid-range hotels, especially when four to six people share one vehicle. A couple travelling alone pays for the whole car, so ₹50,000 each is tight. From Mumbai, Bengaluru or Chennai, the higher airfare means planning on ₹55,000 to 70,000 each.
How much does a Leh taxi cost for Nubra and Pangong?
A Leh-registered Scorpio, Xylo or Innova with driver for a typical 6-day fly-in circuit costs about ₹30,000 to 42,000, and an Innova Crysta about ₹38,000 to 50,000, as of November 2026. Rates come from the local taxi union list and change each season. One vehicle takes up to six passengers.
Do Indians need a permit for Ladakh in 2026?
Not an Inner Line Permit, which was withdrawn for Indians in 2021. Visitors to Nubra, Pangong, Tso Moriri and Hanle still pay an environment fee, a daily wildlife fee and a Red Cross contribution online, together under ₹700 for a week, and the receipt is checked at posts. Amounts vary between sources, so we confirm them before you travel.
Can I take my own car or a rented bike to Ladakh?
You can drive your own private car to Leh, but local taxi unions do not allow outside taxis to do sightseeing, and rented cars or bikes from outside Ladakh are generally restricted. Most travellers use a Leh-registered taxi for the circuit. Bikes can be rented in Leh for roughly ₹1,500 to 2,500 a day plus fuel.
What is the cheapest time to visit Ladakh?
May and late September to early October usually have lower hotel and camp rates than June to August, with most roads open. Winter, from November to March, has the cheapest Leh hotels, but many camps close and the trip is for cold-weather travellers. Late May to June has the highest flight prices.
How much is the flight ticket from Delhi to Leh?
As of November 2026, a return Delhi–Leh ticket usually costs ₹9,000 to 22,000 per person booked six to eight weeks ahead, and can cross ₹30,000 in late May and June. Flights land only in the morning. From Mumbai a non-stop runs in season; from other cities you usually connect in Delhi.
Why do Ladakh trips need two rest days?
Leh is about 3,500 metres high, and flying in gives your body no time to adjust. Two quiet days before Khardung La or Pangong greatly lower the risk of altitude sickness. They are cheap, because the car stays parked, while falling ill can cost a lost day, a hospital visit or an early flight home.
How much does a Pangong Lake camp cost per night?
With dinner and breakfast for two, a standard camp at Pangong costs about ₹3,000 to 5,500 a night, a deluxe camp or cottage ₹6,500 to 11,000, and a heated luxury camp ₹16,000 to 32,000, from June to September. Nights are cold even in summer, so check for heaters or electric blankets.
Is a road trip to Ladakh cheaper than flying?
Usually not. Driving in from Manali or Srinagar adds two or three vehicle days and a night halt, and a one-way vehicle charges for its empty return. A mid-range 9 to 10 night road trip for a couple costs about ₹1.8 to 2.7 lakh against ₹1.0 to 1.6 lakh for a 6-night fly-in plan.
Does a prepaid SIM work in Ladakh?
No. Only postpaid connections work in Ladakh; prepaid SIMs from other states do not. Coverage is good in Leh town, weaker in Nubra and limited at Pangong. Convert one family phone to postpaid before you travel and keep printed copies of tickets, fee receipts and hotel vouchers.
