Karnataka is four holidays wearing one name. There are the coffee hills of Coorg and Chikmagalur, cool and green and three hours from Bengaluru; the boulder-strewn ruins of Hampi with Badami's cave temples beyond; royal Mysuru with its palace, Chamundi Hill and the Dasara season; and the Arabian Sea coast of Udupi, Murudeshwar and Gokarna where pure-vegetarian food is the default rather than a request. Most families from Ahmedabad have time for one or two of these in a week, so this page is built as a circuit chooser rather than a list of sights.
All 15 packages below are live with today's prices. After them: the price guide by circuit, flights from Ahmedabad with a drive-time table, three day-wise itineraries, a "Hampi for families" explainer that most agencies skip, the month-wise planner including Mysuru Dasara, and our notes on food – including the one place where Gujarati vegetarians need to be careful.
Karnataka tour package price guide (2026)
Karnataka packages on this page start at ₹6,500 per person. Hill circuits cost more than heritage circuits because Coorg and Chikmagalur resorts are priced like Munnar's; Hampi and the coast are good value. Bands are per person on twin sharing with breakfast, private AC car and sightseeing, excluding flights.
| Trip | Standard (3★ / homestays) | Deluxe (4★ / estate resorts) | Premium (5★ / luxury plantation stays) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3N/4D Mysuru + Coorg | ₹13,000 – 17,000 | ₹20,000 – 27,000 | ₹38,000+ |
| 4N/5D Coorg + Chikmagalur hills | ₹17,000 – 22,000 | ₹26,000 – 35,000 | ₹50,000+ |
| 4N/5D Hampi + Badami heritage | ₹16,000 – 21,000 | ₹24,000 – 32,000 | ₹48,000+ |
| 4N/5D Udupi – Murudeshwar – Gokarna coast | ₹14,000 – 19,000 | ₹22,000 – 29,000 | ₹42,000+ |
| 7N/8D Bengaluru – Mysuru – Coorg – Chikmagalur – Hampi | ₹28,000 – 36,000 | ₹42,000 – 55,000 | ₹85,000+ |
Add for flights: Ahmedabad–Bengaluru return fares are usually ₹8,000–13,000 per person booked 4–6 weeks ahead; Mangaluru and Hubballi one-stop fares run ₹10,000–16,000. Diwali and the Mysuru Dasara fortnight push fares up. Usually extra on the ground: Mysuru Palace and illumination tickets, Hampi monument tickets and coracle ride, Jog Falls and Abbey Falls entry, Dubare elephant camp activities, coffee-estate tours, Jungle Lodges safaris, Murudeshwar tower lift, St Mary's Island boat, and lunches. Every quote lists them.
How to reach Karnataka from Ahmedabad – and which airport for which circuit
- Bengaluru (BLR): non-stop flights from Ahmedabad take about 2 hours 15 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes and run several times a day. It is the gateway for Mysuru, Coorg and Chikmagalur, and the usual start for Hampi.
- Mangaluru (IXE): one-stop flights via Bengaluru or Mumbai; the right airport for the coast – Udupi is 1 hour 30 minutes away – and a good exit from Coorg (3 hours 30 minutes).
- Hubballi (HBX): one-stop via Bengaluru; 3 hours from Hampi and 2 hours from Badami, which saves the 6–7 hour drive from Bengaluru on a heritage-only trip.
- By train: Ahmedabad–Bengaluru trains take roughly 30–36 hours; Ahmedabad to Hosapete (for Hampi) and to Udupi or Mangaluru on the Konkan route are also possible for families with time. Within Karnataka, the overnight train Bengaluru–Hosapete is a comfortable way to reach Hampi.
- Getting around: every package includes a private AC car with a Kannada-speaking driver who knows the ghat roads – Dzire for couples, Innova Crysta for families, Tempo Traveller when an extended family travels together.

It is a lot of driving; we recommend it for couples and families with teenagers rather than seniors.
Hampi for families – how to see a 26-square-kilometre ruin with children and parents
Hampi is the sight in Karnataka that Gujarati families are most curious about and least prepared for. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site spread over 26 sq km of boulder hills and banana fields; there is no single gate, the sun is strong, and a bad plan means tired children by 11 am. Here is how we do it.
- Two days, not one. Day one for the sacred centre by the river (Virupaksha, the bazaar, Vittala temple), day two for the royal centre (Lotus Mahal, Elephant Stables, the baths). A single day covers the highlights but leaves no energy for the coracle ride or a sunset.
- Timing: start at 7 am, break from 12 to 3.30 pm at the hotel pool, resume till sunset. Monuments open roughly 6 am to 6 pm.
- The ticket: one combined ticket covers Vittala temple, the Lotus Mahal–Elephant Stables zone and the museum on the same day; keep it with you.
- Battery carts: the 1 km walk from the car park to Vittala temple is replaced by electric carts – ideal for grandparents.
- Coracle ride: the round basket boats on the Tungabhadra at Sanapur or by the Vittala temple ghat are the children's highlight; 15–20 minutes, life jackets on request, about ₹100–200 per person.
- Sunrise and sunset: Matanga hill's sunrise is the classic but needs a 30–40 minute rocky climb; Hemakuta hill beside Virupaksha is a 10-minute walk and the family-friendly choice. Malyavanta Raghunatha temple hill is reachable by car.
- Anegundi and the other bank: across the river by bridge, Anjaneya hill (575 steps to the Hanuman temple), Sanapur lake and cliff views – a half day for the fit.
- Stay: Hampi village itself has guesthouses only; families stay in Hosapete (13 km, 3★ and 4★ hotels) or at the heritage-style resorts near Kamalapura and Anegundi. We book Hosapete for comfort and the resorts for atmosphere.
- Food: Hampi village is vegetarian by temple-town rule, with simple South Indian and North Indian menus; Hosapete has pure-veg restaurants. Carry water and theplas for the long morning.
- Season: October to February is comfortable (below 32°C); March to May is 38–42°C and only for early mornings; Hampi Utsav, when held, is usually in winter.
Best time to visit Karnataka – month by month
| Months | Weather | Good for | Prices |
|---|---|---|---|
| October – November | Rain ending, 18–30°C; hills misty, Hampi green | Mysuru Dasara (usually late September or October), Diwali-week trips, all four circuits | High in Dasara and Diwali weeks; book by August |
| December – February | Dry and pleasant, 12–28°C; cold mornings in Coorg and Chikmagalur | Everyone – best Hampi season, coast at its best, Hampi Utsav when held | Peak; Christmas week highest in Coorg |
| March – May | Hot in Hampi and Bengaluru (35–42°C), pleasant in Coorg and Chikmagalur (22–30°C), humid on the coast | Gujarat May-vacation families in the hills; Udupi Paryaya festival in even years (January) aside, the coast is for temples not beaches now | Moderate; hill resorts fill in May |
| June – August (monsoon) | Heavy rain in Coorg, Chikmagalur and on the coast; Hampi and Mysuru moderate | Monsoon lovers in Coorg, Jog Falls at full flow from late July, Mysuru and Hampi for those who avoid hills | Lowest; 30–40% off estate resorts |
| September | Rain easing, everything green, waterfalls full | Jog Falls and Chikmagalur waterfalls, Mysuru Dasara preparations | Moderate |
Mysuru Dasara is a ten-day festival ending on Vijayadashami, usually in late September or October; the palace is lit every evening and the Jamboo Savari procession on the last day draws lakhs. Hotels in Mysuru sell out for the fortnight, so Gujarati families combining Dasara with Navratri holidays should book by July. Jog Falls is worth the detour only from August to October; in winter it is a trickle.
Places to visit in Karnataka
- Coorg (Kodagu): Abbey Falls, Raja's Seat, Dubare elephant camp, Talacauvery, Namdroling monastery and coffee estates – the honeymoon hill station of the south.
- Chikmagalur: Mullayanagiri peak, Baba Budangiri, Hebbe and Jhari falls, Bhadra wildlife sanctuary; quieter than Coorg with the same coffee.
- Hampi: Virupaksha and Vittala temples, the stone chariot, Lotus Mahal, Elephant Stables, Hemakuta hill, coracle rides – the capital of Vijayanagara.
- Badami, Aihole and Pattadakal: Chalukya cave temples cut into red sandstone cliffs and the temples where Indian temple architecture was worked out.
- Mysuru: the illuminated Amba Vilas palace, Chamundi Hill, Brindavan Gardens, St Philomena's church, Devaraja market and Mysore silk.
- Srirangapatna: Ranganathaswamy temple and Tipu Sultan's summer palace on an island in the Cauvery, between Bengaluru and Mysuru.
- Belur, Halebidu and Shravanabelagola: the Hoysala temples with their carved soapstone, and the 17-m Gomateshwara statue that draws Jain families from across Gujarat.
- Udupi: Sri Krishna Matha, Malpe beach, St Mary's Island, Kaup lighthouse – and the birthplace of the dosa.
- Murudeshwar: the giant Shiva statue and temple gopura on a peninsula, with Maravanthe beach road on the way.
- Gokarna: Mahabaleshwar temple and the Om, Kudle and Half Moon beaches.
- Jog Falls: India's second-highest plunge waterfall, spectacular from August to October.
- Bengaluru: Lalbagh, Cubbon Park, Bangalore Palace, ISKCON temple, and the shopping and food streets that make a comfortable first or last night.
- Kabini and Bandipur: wildlife safaris for tigers, elephants and leopards, south of Mysuru.
Food, hotels and tips for Gujarati travellers
- Vegetarian food is Karnataka's strength. Udupi cuisine – idli, dosa, the full-meal banana-leaf thali – is pure-vegetarian by tradition, and Udupi-style restaurants exist in every town. Bengaluru and Mysuru have Gujarati thali restaurants and Marwari bhojanalayas; Hampi village is vegetarian by rule; Udupi, Gokarna and Murudeshwar are temple towns with vegetarian food on every corner. Jain meals are easily arranged in cities and at estate resorts with a day's notice.
- The one place to be careful: homestays in Coorg and Chikmagalur. Kodava cuisine is pork- and chicken-based, and many family-run homestays cook meat in the same kitchen as a matter of course. We ask every property about separate vegetarian cooking before we book it, flag it on your quote, and for strict vegetarians and Jain families recommend estate resorts and hotels with dedicated vegetarian kitchens rather than homestays.
- Hotel categories: Coorg and Chikmagalur – plantation resorts from 3★ to luxury, and homestays (see above); Mysuru and Bengaluru – full range to 5★; Hampi – guesthouses in the village, 3★ to 4★ in Hosapete, heritage resorts near Kamalapura; Udupi and Gokarna – clean 3★ hotels and beach resorts, few 5★; Murudeshwar – temple-trust and private hotels, simple but adequate for a night.
- Pack: a light jacket for Coorg and Chikmagalur evenings in every season, rain gear from June to September, a cap and sunscreen for Hampi, modest clothes for temples (Udupi, Gokarna and Murudeshwar expect covered shoulders and knees; some temples ask men to remove shirts in the inner area), and walking shoes for Hampi's boulders.
- Money and connectivity: UPI works everywhere including Hampi's coracle men; networks are fine except inside estate valleys and at Baba Budangiri.
- Timings: Mysuru Palace illumination is on Sundays and public holidays from 7 to 7.45 pm (nightly during Dasara); Hampi monuments 6 am to 6 pm; Udupi Krishna Matha darshan runs from early morning with the main pujas before noon; St Mary's Island boats run roughly October to May.

Karnataka tour packages – frequently asked questions
How much does a Karnataka tour package cost from Ahmedabad?
Karnataka packages on this page start at ₹6,500 per person. A 4-night Coorg–Chikmagalur package with 3-star hotels, breakfast and a private car costs ₹17,000–22,000 per person excluding flights; estate resorts take it to ₹26,000–35,000. Hampi–Badami and the coast are slightly cheaper. Ahmedabad–Bengaluru return flights add roughly ₹8,000–13,000.
Which Karnataka circuit should I choose for one week?
Honeymooners: Coorg and Chikmagalur for 4–5 nights. Families with school-age children: Mysuru plus Hampi–Badami for heritage, or Mysuru–Coorg for an easier pace. Parents and seniors: the Udupi–Murudeshwar–Gokarna temple coast, with pure-veg food everywhere and short drives. A full week lets you combine two circuits; all four need ten days or more.
How do I reach Karnataka from Ahmedabad?
Non-stop flights from Ahmedabad reach Bengaluru in about 2 hours 15 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes – the gateway for Mysuru, Coorg and Chikmagalur. For Hampi, fly on to Hubballi (3 hours from Hampi) or take the overnight train from Bengaluru to Hosapete. For the coast, fly to Mangaluru with one stop; Udupi is 1 hour 30 minutes away.
Is Hampi suitable for children and senior citizens?
Yes, with a two-day plan: early starts, a long midday break, battery carts for the 1 km Vittala temple approach, Hemakuta hill instead of the Matanga climb for sunset, and a coracle ride for the children. Stay in Hosapete or a heritage resort for comfort. Visit between October and February; March to May is too hot for anyone.
Is pure-vegetarian and Jain food easy to find in Karnataka?
Easier than almost anywhere in India. Udupi cuisine is pure-vegetarian, every town has Udupi-style restaurants, Bengaluru and Mysuru have Gujarati thali places, and Hampi, Udupi, Gokarna and Murudeshwar are vegetarian temple towns. The exception is Coorg and Chikmagalur homestays, which often cook meat in the same kitchen – we check each property and recommend resorts for strict vegetarians.
When is Mysuru Dasara and should we plan around it?
Mysuru Dasara is a ten-day festival ending on Vijayadashami, usually in late September or October, with the palace lit every evening and the Jamboo Savari elephant procession on the final day. It is spectacular but Mysuru hotels sell out for the fortnight and prices rise sharply, so book by July or plan the rest of Karnataka around a single Dasara day.
When is the best time to visit Karnataka?
October to February for all four circuits – comfortable in Hampi, pleasant on the coast, cool in Coorg. March to May suits the hills only; Hampi reaches 40°C. June to September is the monsoon, excellent for Coorg's greenery and Jog Falls but wet on the coast. Diwali week and Christmas week are the busiest for Gujarati families.
How long are the drives in Karnataka?
Bengaluru to Mysuru is 3 hours 30 minutes, Mysuru to Coorg 3 hours, Coorg to Chikmagalur 4 hours, and Bengaluru to Hampi 6–7 hours – the one long drive, which we avoid by flying into Hubballi or taking the overnight train to Hosapete. On the coast, Udupi–Murudeshwar and Murudeshwar–Gokarna are 2 hours each on good highway.
Is Karnataka good for a honeymoon?
Coorg and Chikmagalur are among the best honeymoon hill stations in India – private plantation villas, misty mornings, waterfalls and coffee-estate walks, 3–5 hours from Bengaluru. A 4-night Coorg–Chikmagalur package with an estate resort, candle-light dinner and jeep ride to Mullayanagiri is our most-booked Karnataka honeymoon from Ahmedabad.
Are there Jain pilgrimage sites in Karnataka?
Yes. Shravanabelagola, between Bengaluru and Chikmagalur, has the 17-metre monolithic Gomateshwara (Bahubali) statue – 600-plus steps up Vindhyagiri hill, with dolis available for seniors – and Jain basadis on Chandragiri. Moodbidri near Udupi has the thousand-pillar Jain temple, and Karkala has another Bahubali statue. We add these to any circuit.
Can we combine Karnataka with Goa or Kerala?
Easily. Gokarna is 3 hours from Goa's Dabolim airport, so a coast itinerary can end with two nights in South Goa. Coorg is 4–5 hours from Wayanad in Kerala, and Mysuru is 3 hours from Ooty in Tamil Nadu. We build these combinations as one private itinerary with the same car and driver throughout.
What is usually not included in a Karnataka package?
Flights unless added, lunches and dinners unless a meal plan is chosen, monument and palace tickets, Hampi coracle rides, Dubare elephant camp activities, estate tours, Jungle Lodges safaris, Murudeshwar tower lift, St Mary's Island boat, tips, personal expenses and GST at 5%. Our quotes show inclusions and exclusions side by side.
