Leisure Holiday Packages from Ahmedabad – Page 29
Slow holidays – one good resort, no 6 am checkouts, no eight-stop sightseeing days – from a Mount Abu long weekend to a week of Ayurveda in Kerala.
A leisure holiday is the opposite of a sightseeing tour. You pick one place, one good hotel, and you stay. Breakfast runs late, the afternoon has a pool or a lake or a spa in it, and the only decision is where to eat dinner. For working families and couples in Ahmedabad this is now the most-requested kind of trip we plan, usually built around a long weekend or a week of leave.
This page covers the places that do it best from Ahmedabad: the drive-to hill and lake towns of Gujarat and Rajasthan for 2–3 nights, the beaches of Daman, Diu and Goa, Kerala's Ayurveda resorts for a proper reset, and the Maldives for the ultimate do-nothing week. You will find a long-weekend calendar, honest budgets, and how we choose resorts for Gujarati families. Every trip is private – your own dates, your own car and driver if you want one, your own pace.

Long-weekend calendar from Ahmedabad
Most leisure trips from Ahmedabad are built around a Friday or Monday off. Here is how we match the usual long weekends to destinations – exact dates shift each year, so check the current calendar with us.
| Long weekend (typical) | Weather | Where we send families | Where we send couples |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uttarayan / Makar Sankranti (mid-January) | Cool and clear | Kutch and Rann Utsav, Mount Abu, Statue of Unity | Udaipur, Jawai, Diu |
| Republic Day (26 January) | Cool | Saputara, Daman, Polo Forest | Goa, Kumbhalgarh |
| Holi / Dhuleti (March) | Warm days | Udaipur, Mount Abu, Goa (season ending) | Goa, Kerala beaches |
| Good Friday / Ram Navami (March–April) | Getting hot | Mount Abu, Saputara | Coorg, Wayanad |
| Summer vacation (May) | Hot in Gujarat | Mount Abu, Saputara, Coorg, Munnar, Bali | Bali, Maldives (monsoon deals), Munnar |
| Independence Day (15 August) and Janmashtami | Monsoon – green | Saputara (monsoon festival), Polo Forest, Udaipur | Udaipur, Kerala Ayurveda, Wayanad |
| Gandhi Jayanti / Dussehra (October) | Rain ending | Daman, Diu, Statue of Unity, Udaipur | Goa (season starting), Jawai |
| Diwali break (October–November) | Pleasant everywhere | Goa, Kerala, Diu, Udaipur | Maldives, Bali, Goa |
| Christmas – New Year | Best weather of the year | Goa, Daman, Mount Abu (winter festival), Kutch | Goa, Maldives, Kerala |
Hotel prices in Mount Abu, Udaipur, Daman and Goa rise 30–60% on long weekends and Diwali–New Year, and the better properties sell out two to three weeks ahead. For a spontaneous weekend, Polo Forest, Statue of Unity and Saputara usually still have rooms.
Drive-to leisure breaks – Mount Abu, Udaipur, Saputara, Daman, Diu
- Mount Abu: Gujarat's favourite hill escape, just across the Rajasthan border. Nakki Lake boating, Sunset Point, Guru Shikhar, the Dilwara temples and Achalgarh fit easily into two relaxed days. Resorts with pools and pure-veg Gujarati restaurants everywhere. The Mount Abu Winter Festival is held around the last week of December.
- Udaipur: a lake city built for doing very little well – a boat ride on Pichola at sunset, a rooftop dinner with a palace view, a slow morning at Saheliyon ki Bari. The lake-view heritage hotels and the Fateh Sagar-side resorts are worth the upgrade. Add Kumbhalgarh or Ranakpur for a half-day drive.
- Saputara: Gujarat's only hill station, in the Dang forests. The lake, ropeway, Sunset Point and tribal museum are all within minutes of each other; the monsoon festival in August is the time to go for greenery and waterfalls (Gira falls). Hotels are simple; the better resorts are on the lake road.
- Daman: the quick beach fix from Ahmedabad – Devka and Jampore beaches, the Portuguese fort and church, seafront resorts with pools. Best from October to March; the sea is muddy in the monsoon.
- Diu: cleaner beaches than Daman (Nagoa, Ghoghla), the fort, Naida caves and a Portuguese old town; quieter and better for 3 nights. Combine with Somnath (about 90 minutes) for a darshan.
- Statue of Unity and Polo Forest: one-night escapes for families – the tent city, river rafting and the night laser show at Kevadia; forest camps, monuments and the Harnav river at Polo. Both work as a Saturday-night-out from Ahmedabad.
- Jawai and Kumbhalgarh: luxury camps among granite hills where leopards are seen on most evening drives, and the second-longest wall in the world – the best 2-night premium break within six hours of Ahmedabad.
Fly-away leisure – Goa, Kerala Ayurveda, Coorg, Maldives, Bali
- Goa: for leisure we book South Goa – Cavelossim, Benaulim, Varca, Agonda – where the beaches are wide, the resorts have large pools and the evenings are quiet. North Goa (Candolim, Calangute) for families who want restaurants and shopping within walking distance. Three or four nights, one hotel, a car for one day of sightseeing at most.
- Kerala Ayurveda: a 5–7 night stay at an Ayurveda resort in Kovalam, Varkala or Kumarakom with a doctor's consultation on arrival, daily treatments (abhyangam, shirodhara, podikizhi), yoga, and a sattvic vegetarian diet – naturally Jain-friendly. June to August is the traditional treatment season and the cheapest; October to March has the best weather. The best resorts need two to three months' notice.
- Coorg and Wayanad: coffee-estate homestays and resorts, misty mornings, a waterfall or two, and nothing on the schedule. Fly Ahmedabad–Bengaluru (Coorg, 5–6 hours by road) or Ahmedabad–Calicut (Wayanad, 2–3 hours).
- Maldives: the leisure benchmark. A 3–4 night resort stay with a half-board or all-inclusive plan, a beach villa with a water-villa night added if the budget allows, and transfers by speedboat (cheaper, 20–60 minutes) or seaplane (scenic, more expensive). Vegetarian menus are strong at the resorts we shortlist for Gujarati guests.
- Bali villa stay: a private pool villa in Ubud or Seminyak for 5–6 nights, a cook on request, spa days and one or two outings. Costs less than a Maldives water villa and suits families with children better.
How we choose leisure resorts for Gujarati families
- Food first: a pure-veg kitchen or a confirmed Jain menu, Gujarati dishes at least at dinner in Mount Abu, Udaipur, Saputara and Daman, and Indian vegetarian options confirmed in writing in Goa, Kerala, the Maldives and Bali.
- The pool matters more than the view: for families with children we check for a shallow section and a shaded deck; for couples, a quieter adults' pool or a private plunge pool.
- Room type honestly described: a "lake view" in Udaipur or a "sea view" in Daman often means a partial view; we tell you which rooms actually face the water and book those.
- Late checkout and early check-in are requested on every leisure booking, because a 2-night trip is a lot shorter if you lose both ends.
- Meal plan: for drive-to destinations we recommend breakfast-and-dinner (MAP) because good restaurants outside the resort are few; in Goa breakfast-only, because eating out is half the point; in the Maldives at least half-board.
- Senior-friendly: lifts, ground-floor rooms and short walks to the restaurant are confirmed for trips with grandparents.
- Your own car and driver for the drive-to breaks if you would rather not drive – an Innova or Tempo Traveller from your home in Ahmedabad, which turns the journey into part of the holiday.

Leisure holiday packages from Ahmedabad – frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest leisure holiday from Ahmedabad?
A 2-night stay in Mount Abu, Saputara or Daman at ₹6,000–10,000 per person including breakfast and dinner, driving your own car. Polo Forest and Statue of Unity one-night breaks start around ₹4,000–5,000 per person. Avoid long weekends and Diwali–New Year if price matters; rates rise 30–60% then.
Which places near Ahmedabad are good for a 2-day trip?
Mount Abu (about 4½ hours), Udaipur (about 5 hours), Statue of Unity (about 3½ hours), Polo Forest (about 3 hours), Saputara (about 6 hours) and Daman (about 6 hours). For two nights we recommend Mount Abu or Udaipur in winter, Saputara in the monsoon, and Daman from October to March.
What is the best long-weekend destination from Ahmedabad in winter?
Udaipur and Mount Abu for a hill or lake break, Daman and Diu for the beach, Kutch during the Rann Utsav, and Goa by a 1 h 20 min flight. December to February is peak season for all of them, so book two to three weeks ahead, and four to six weeks for Christmas–New Year.
Where can we go from Ahmedabad in the monsoon?
Saputara (monsoon festival in August, waterfalls), Polo Forest, Udaipur (lakes full, cooler), Kerala Ayurveda resorts (treatment season, 30–40% cheaper), Coorg and Wayanad (misty and green), and Bali (dry season). Avoid Daman, Diu and Goa beaches during heavy rain – the sea is rough and most shacks are shut.
Is Goa good for a relaxed family holiday?
Yes, if you choose the right part. South Goa – Cavelossim, Benaulim, Varca, Agonda – has wide, calm beaches and large resort pools and is quiet at night. North Goa suits families who want restaurants and shopping within walking distance. Three to four nights in one resort with one day of sightseeing is the right pace.
How does a Kerala Ayurveda holiday work?
You stay 5–7 nights at an Ayurveda resort in Kovalam, Varkala or Kumarakom. A doctor assesses you on arrival and prescribes daily treatments – abhyangam, shirodhara, herbal steam – with yoga and a sattvic vegetarian diet that is Jain-friendly. June–August is the traditional and cheapest season; October–March has the best weather. Book 2–3 months ahead.
Can we get pure-vegetarian or Jain food at leisure resorts?
Yes. Mount Abu, Udaipur, Saputara and Daman have pure-veg Gujarati kitchens in most resorts. In Goa, Kerala, Coorg, the Maldives and Bali we confirm vegetarian and Jain meals with the resort in writing and choose properties known for strong Indian vegetarian menus. Ayurveda resorts are vegetarian by default.
Is the Maldives worth it for a relaxing holiday compared with Goa?
They serve different budgets. Goa costs ₹18,000–28,000 per person for 4 nights including flights; the Maldives ₹75,000–1,20,000 for 3–4 nights in a 4★ resort and ₹1,50,000 or more with a water villa. The Maldives is the better pure-leisure experience – one island, one resort, water at your door – and Goa is the better value for families.
Do you provide a car and driver for drive-to holidays?
Yes. An Innova Crysta for up to 6 or a Tempo Traveller for larger families picks you up at home in Ahmedabad, stays with you at the destination for sightseeing and brings you back. For Mount Abu or Udaipur a 2-night car hire is typically ₹9,000–14,000 for the vehicle including fuel and driver.
Which leisure destinations suit senior citizens?
Udaipur (short drives, lifts in good hotels, lake-side evenings), Mount Abu (cool, pure-veg, little walking), Kerala Ayurveda resorts (built around rest and treatment), Goa resorts in South Goa, and Dubai or Singapore for a low-effort international break. We confirm lifts, ground-floor rooms and short restaurant walks for every booking with grandparents.
How far ahead should we book a long-weekend trip?
Two to three weeks for Mount Abu, Udaipur, Daman and Saputara; four to six weeks for Goa and for Diwali, Christmas and New Year; two to three months for Kerala Ayurveda resorts and the Maldives. Polo Forest, Statue of Unity and Saputara are the best bets for a spontaneous weekend.
Can a group of friends or an extended family book a resort together?
Yes. Friend groups and extended families travel together as a private group on their own dates – we block rooms or whole villas in Udaipur, Mount Abu, Goa and Bali, arrange a Tempo Traveller or coach from Ahmedabad, pre-book Gujarati meals and assign one consultant to the whole party.
