Vietnam has become one of the fastest-growing holidays from Gujarat, helped by direct VietJet flights from Ahmedabad to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in a little over four hours. It packs a lot into one trip: an overnight cruise among the limestone islands of Ha Long Bay, the old quarter of Hanoi, the Golden Bridge and French-hill-station theme park at Ba Na Hills, the lantern-lit old town of Hoi An, the Mekong Delta and the island beaches of Phu Quoc – at prices that compare well with Thailand and undercut Bali.

Vietnam is also the destination Ahmedabad travellers know least about, and the one most package sites cover worst: listing pages with no itinerary, no visa section and no word on food. This page is the complete guide. You will find a price grid by route and hotel class, the direct-flight and e-visa process step by step, three day-wise itineraries (North, Central, North-plus-Central honeymoon), a North-Central-South routing guide with a Vietnam-versus-Thailand-versus-Bali comparison, a month-by-month table that differs by region, and the pure-veg and Jain food reality city by city. The packages below show live prices, and every trip is a private, customised itinerary – your own car and driver, your own dates.

Return flights from Ahmedabad: VietJet's direct Ahmedabad–Hanoi and Ahmedabad–Ho Chi Minh City fares are usually ₹18,000–30,000 per person return when booked 6–8 weeks ahead, including checked baggage which we add; Diwali, Christmas–New Year and the May vacation see ₹30,000–45,000. We book you into Hanoi and out of Ho Chi Minh City (or the reverse) so a North-to-South trip never backtracks.

Direct flights and Vietnam e-visa from Ahmedabad

Flights

  • Direct: VietJet Air operates direct flights from Ahmedabad's SVPI Airport to Hanoi (HAN) and to Ho Chi Minh City (SGN), about 4–4½ hours, on several days a week. Vietnam is 1½ hours ahead of India. These are low-cost flights – we add 20 kg checked baggage and a meal so you are not charged at the counter.
  • One-stop alternatives: IndiGo, Vietnam Airlines, Thai Airways and Singapore Airlines via Mumbai, Delhi, Bangkok or Singapore to Hanoi, Da Nang or Ho Chi Minh City, 8–11 hours total – useful on days without a direct flight or for a Da Nang start.
  • Domestic flights: Hanoi–Da Nang 1¼ hours, Da Nang–Ho Chi Minh City 1¼ hours, Ho Chi Minh City–Phu Quoc 1 hour; Vietnam Airlines, VietJet and Bamboo fly them many times a day and they are included in our multi-region packages.
  • Open-jaw: for 7–9 night trips we fly you into Hanoi and home from Ho Chi Minh City so you travel in one direction.

Vietnam e-visa for Indian passport holders – step by step

  1. Indian passport holders need a visa for Vietnam; the e-visa is the standard route, valid for up to 90 days, single or multiple entry, for tourism.
  2. Documents: a colour scan of the passport data page (passport valid at least 6 months from entry), a passport-style photo on a white background (JPEG), your intended entry and exit dates, the entry airport (Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City or Phu Quoc) and a hotel address in Vietnam.
  3. Application: we prepare and submit the application on the official Vietnamese immigration e-visa portal and pay the fee (USD 25 single / USD 50 multiple entry). Approval is at the discretion of Vietnam's immigration department.
  4. Timeline: officially 3 working days; in practice 3–7 working days, longer around Vietnamese holidays (Tet, late January or February) and in peak season. We apply 3–4 weeks before travel.
  5. On approval: you receive a PDF e-visa; print two copies and carry them with your passport. The entry airport on the e-visa must match the one you land at – a common mistake on self-applied visas.
  6. Phu Quoc exemption: travellers flying directly to Phu Quoc island (via an international connection) and staying only on the island may enter visa-free for up to 30 days; we confirm the rule before booking a Phu Quoc-only trip.
  7. Arrival: no arrival card is currently required; immigration queues at Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City can take 30–60 minutes in peak hours. Travel insurance is included in our deluxe and premium packages.

Choosing the right cruise on Ha Long or Lan Ha Bay

  • Standard cruises (3-star boats) have small cabins, shared decks and a set menu; good value, basic vegetarian options.
  • Deluxe cruises (4-star) have balcony cabins, better food and kayaking included – our default for couples.
  • Luxury cruises (5-star) add spa, pool, private dining and the quieter Lan Ha Bay route.
  • One night is enough for most; two nights suit honeymooners. Day cruises (6–8 hours) exist for those who do not want to sleep on board – seniors sometimes prefer them.
  • Cruises are cancelled in storms (mostly July–September); we keep the cruise early in the trip so it can be rescheduled.

Avoid Central Vietnam in October–November and Ha Long in July–August if the cruise is your priority.

Food, hotels and tips for Gujarati travellers in Vietnam

Pure-veg and Jain food, city by city

Vietnamese food is the biggest worry for Gujarati travellers because fish sauce (nuoc mam) is in almost everything. The good news is that Vietnam has a strong Buddhist vegetarian tradition – look for "com chay" (vegetarian rice) restaurants – and Indian restaurants in every tourist city.

  • Hanoi: a dozen or more Indian restaurants in the Old Quarter and West Lake area, several pure-veg or with large veg menus; Jain dishes on request at a few. Buddhist vegetarian eateries serve tofu, mushroom and vegetable dishes without fish sauce.
  • Ha Long Bay cruises: vegetarian set menus are provided when requested at booking; we confirm pure-veg or Jain in writing. The menu is Vietnamese-style vegetarian (spring rolls, tofu, stir-fried vegetables, rice, fruit) – carry theplas or khakhra as a supplement.
  • Da Nang and Hoi An: several Indian restaurants in Da Nang's beach district and in Hoi An old town, plus many vegetarian cafés; Ba Na Hills has an Indian outlet.
  • Ho Chi Minh City: the most Indian restaurants in Vietnam, concentrated in District 1 around Bui Vien and the Mariamman Temple; pure-veg South Indian and Punjabi places; Jain food on request.
  • Phu Quoc: two or three Indian restaurants in Duong Dong and the resort strip; resorts prepare Indian vegetarian dishes with notice.
  • Useful phrase: "an chay" (I eat vegetarian) and "khong nuoc mam" (no fish sauce). We include Indian dinners daily for families who prefer them.

Hotel categories

  • 3-star: clean, well-rated boutique hotels in Hanoi Old Quarter, Da Nang beach district and Ho Chi Minh City District 1; standard cruise boats.
  • 4-star: larger rooms, pools, beachfront in Da Nang and Phu Quoc; deluxe balcony cruises.
  • 5-star: heritage hotels in Hanoi, beach resorts in Da Nang and Phu Quoc, luxury Lan Ha Bay cruises.

Practical tips

  • Money: Vietnamese dong (VND), roughly 300 per rupee – a 500,000 note is about ₹1,700. Count zeros carefully. Exchange at gold shops or banks in the Old Quarter for good rates; cards work in hotels, malls and most restaurants; carry VND 2,000,000–3,000,000 cash per couple for markets, boats and tips. US dollars are accepted as backup.
  • Getting around: private cars are included in our packages; Grab (car and bike) is cheap and reliable in cities. Crossing roads in Hanoi takes nerve – walk steadily and let the scooters flow around you.
  • Weather and packing: a jacket for Hanoi from December to February, rain jacket in any season, modest clothing for pagodas (shoulders and knees covered), swimwear for Phu Quoc and the cruise, comfortable shoes for old towns.
  • Connectivity: Viettel tourist SIMs at the airport (about VND 200,000–300,000) or an eSIM; Wi-Fi is everywhere and fast.
  • Health: drink bottled water, carry mosquito repellent, and use sunscreen in Central and South Vietnam.
  • Shopping: Hoi An tailors and lanterns, Hanoi silk and lacquer, Da Lat coffee, Phu Quoc pepper and pearls; bargain at markets, not in shops with price tags.
  • Tet: Vietnamese New Year (late January or February) closes many shops and restaurants for a week and raises domestic fares – avoid it unless you want the festival itself.

Vietnam tour from Ahmedabad: FAQs

How much does a Vietnam tour package from Ahmedabad cost?

Our Vietnam packages currently start at ₹21,999 per person for 3 nights. Most of our Vietnam packages fall between ₹48,000 and ₹70,000 per person. The final cost depends on the travel month, hotel category, number of travellers and whether flights from {$from} are added. Open any package below to see exactly what is included, or ask us for a quote with flights.

Is there a direct flight from Ahmedabad to Vietnam?

Yes. VietJet Air flies direct from Ahmedabad to Hanoi and to Ho Chi Minh City on several days a week, taking about 4–4½ hours. These are low-cost flights, so we add checked baggage and a meal to your booking. For a North-to-South trip we fly you into Hanoi and home from Ho Chi Minh City so you never backtrack.

Do Indians need a visa for Vietnam, and how does the e-visa work?

Yes. Indian passport holders apply for a Vietnam e-visa online before travel – single entry USD 25 or multiple entry USD 50, valid for up to 90 days. We prepare and submit the application on the official immigration portal with your passport scan and photo; it normally takes 3–7 working days and approval is at the immigration department's discretion. The entry airport on the e-visa must match where you land.

How many days are enough for Vietnam from Ahmedabad?

Five nights covers one region well – Hanoi with a Ha Long Bay cruise and Ninh Binh, or Da Nang with Ba Na Hills and Hoi An. Seven nights combines North and Central, which is our most popular honeymoon route. Nine nights lets you go North to South with Ho Chi Minh City and two nights on Phu Quoc at the end.

Which part of Vietnam should we choose – North, Central or South?

North for the Ha Long Bay cruise, Hanoi culture and Ninh Binh scenery – best from October to April and ideal for Diwali. Central for the Golden Bridge, Hoi An lanterns and beaches – best from February to August and ideal for the May vacation. South for Ho Chi Minh City, the Mekong and Phu Quoc beaches – best from November to April. With seven or more nights, combine two.

Is vegetarian and Jain food available in Vietnam?

Yes, with planning. Hanoi, Da Nang, Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh City and Phu Quoc all have Indian restaurants, several pure-veg, and Jain dishes can be requested at most. Vietnam also has Buddhist vegetarian ("com chay") eateries that cook without fish sauce. Ha Long cruises serve a vegetarian set menu when booked; we confirm pure-veg or Jain in writing and suggest carrying theplas for boat days.

When is the best time to visit Vietnam from Ahmedabad?

It depends on the region. The North is best from October to April, with December–February cool enough for a jacket. Central Vietnam is dry from February to August and wet from September to November. The South and Phu Quoc are dry from November to April. For Diwali choose the North; for the May vacation choose Central; for December choose the South or a full North-to-South trip.

Is Vietnam cheaper than Thailand or Bali?

Hotels, food and transport in Vietnam are a little cheaper than Thailand and clearly cheaper than Bali, and the direct VietJet flight from Ahmedabad is often the lowest international fare on offer. The e-visa adds about ₹2,100 per person and the Ha Long cruise and domestic flights add cost, so a 7-night deluxe Vietnam package lands slightly above Thailand and below Bali overall.

Is the Ha Long Bay overnight cruise included, and is it safe?

Yes, our North and combined packages include a one-night cruise with all meals, kayaking or bamboo boat and a cave visit; the cabin class (standard, deluxe balcony or luxury) is shown on the quote. Licensed cruises carry life jackets and follow the port authority, which cancels sailings in storms – mostly in July–September – so we schedule the cruise early in your trip.

Is Vietnam good for a honeymoon?

Yes, and it is newer than Thailand or Bali. A deluxe balcony cabin on Ha Long Bay with a candle-light dinner, the Golden Bridge at Ba Na Hills, a lantern boat and photoshoot in Hoi An old town, and two or three nights at a Phu Quoc beach resort make a 7–9 night honeymoon at a mid-range price, with the direct flight from Ahmedabad keeping travel short.

Is Vietnam safe and suitable for families and senior citizens?

Yes. Vietnam has low crime, friendly people and good roads between the main sights. For seniors we choose a day cruise or a deluxe boat with few stairs, keep Hanoi walking short, use the Ba Na Hills cable car rather than treks, and avoid the Hang Mua steps. Families love Ba Na Hills, the cruise, basket boats in Hoi An and VinWonders on Phu Quoc. Watch traffic when crossing roads in Hanoi.

How much cash should I carry to Vietnam?

About VND 2,000,000–3,000,000 (₹7,000–10,000) per couple for markets, boat tips, street cafés and small entry fees, plus a forex card or credit card for hotels, restaurants and shopping. Exchange at banks or Old Quarter gold shops rather than the airport, and count the zeros – the 20,000 and 500,000 notes look similar. US dollars are accepted as a backup.
