Getting to the Maldives from Ahmedabad
- Flights: there is no non-stop flight from Ahmedabad; the usual routes are one-stop via Mumbai, Bengaluru or Kochi to Malé (Velana International Airport). Flights from those cities to Malé take about 1½–2½ hours.
- Visa: the Maldives gives a free 30-day visa on arrival to all tourists with a valid passport, a confirmed resort booking and a return ticket. Fill the online traveller declaration (IMUGA) within 96 hours before arrival.
- Resort transfer: from Malé you reach your resort by speedboat (nearby atolls), seaplane (scenic, daytime only) or a domestic flight plus boat. Transfers can cost as much as a night's stay, so we include them in the package price.
Choosing the right Maldives package
3 nights – short honeymoon
One resort, a mix of beach villa and water villa nights, speedboat transfers. Good value without losing the Maldives experience.
4–5 nights – the full experience
Seaplane resort, all-inclusive or full-board meal plan, snorkelling trips, a sandbank picnic and a spa session. Add a night in Malé or a local island to reduce cost.
Family Maldives
Family rooms or two-bedroom villas, kids' clubs, shallow lagoons and resorts with Indian chefs. Water villas are less suitable for very young children.
Budget Maldives
Guesthouses on local islands such as Maafushi cost much less than resorts, with day trips to a resort island and sandbanks. Note that local islands follow local customs (no alcohol, modest dress outside bikini beaches).
Best time to visit the Maldives
- November to April: dry season with calm seas and the clearest water – peak prices around Christmas, New Year and Diwali.
- May to October: southwest monsoon – short showers, lower prices and good manta and whale shark season in some atolls.
Food and meal plans
- Meal plans: Bed & Breakfast, Half Board, Full Board or All-Inclusive. Because you cannot leave the resort island to eat, Full Board or All-Inclusive usually works out better value.
- Vegetarian and Jain food: most resorts serve Indian vegetarian dishes, and many have Indian chefs. For Jain food we confirm with the resort before booking.
- Currency: resorts price in US dollars; cards are accepted everywhere.

Is there a direct flight from Ahmedabad to the Maldives?
No. You fly from Ahmedabad to Malé with one stop, usually via Mumbai, Bengaluru or Kochi. The total journey is typically 5–8 hours depending on the connection.
Do Indians need a visa for the Maldives?
No advance visa is needed. All tourists get a free 30-day visa on arrival with a valid passport, a confirmed hotel booking and a return ticket. Complete the IMUGA traveller declaration online within 96 hours before arrival.
How many days are enough for the Maldives?
Three nights is enough for a short honeymoon; four or five nights lets you relax properly and try snorkelling, a sandbank trip and the spa.
Seaplane or speedboat – which is better?
Speedboat resorts near Malé are cheaper and you can arrive at any time. Seaplane resorts are farther away, with more privacy and better reefs, but seaplanes fly only in daylight and cost more.
Is the Maldives good for a family trip with children?
Yes. Choose a resort with family villas, a kids' club and a shallow lagoon. We usually suggest beach villas rather than water villas for young children.
