For a Gujarati couple who wants turquoise water and white sand but not a visa queue, the Andaman Islands are the obvious answer. The trouble is distance: there is no non-stop flight from Ahmedabad, the islands are linked by ferries that run to the sea's schedule, and a badly sequenced plan can lose a full day to waiting. Get the order right and five or six nights give you Port Blair's history, the long sweep of Radhanagar beach on Havelock, coral you can see from the surface at Elephant Beach, and the slow, village-like calm of Neil Island.

This page is written for travellers flying from Ahmedabad. It sets out realistic package costs, the connecting routes from SVPI Airport and how long each takes, a ferry planner, three itineraries, a comparison with Goa and the Maldives for couples deciding between them, a month-wise sea table, and honest notes on vegetarian and Jain food island by island. Port Blair is now officially Sri Vijaya Puram, Havelock is Swaraj Dweep and Neil is Shaheed Dweep; we use the familiar names because your tickets and vouchers still show both.

Flights from Ahmedabad: return fares to Port Blair through a mainland hub usually fall between ₹18,000 and ₹32,000 per person when booked six to eight weeks out. Diwali week, Christmas–New Year and the May vacation can push them higher, and the cheapest fares often come with a long layover that costs you an afternoon on the island.

Extra on the ground: introductory scuba dive (about ₹3,500 – 5,000), sea walk and glass-bottom boat at North Bay, jet ski, the Cellular Jail light-and-sound show ticket, Baratang permit and boat, lunches on island days, and 5% GST. As a rough guide, a mid-range 5-night trip with flights lands between ₹45,000 and ₹65,000 per person all-in from Ahmedabad.

Flying to Port Blair from Ahmedabad: routes and timings

Every journey from SVPI Airport to Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair involves a change. Some fares are sold as "direct" because the flight number stays the same, but the aircraft still stops on the mainland. These are the routings we use most:

ViaAhmedabad to hubHub to Port BlairDoor-to-door feel
ChennaiAbout 2 hoursAbout 2 hours 15 minutesThe most choice; a dawn departure from Ahmedabad lands you by early afternoon
KolkataAbout 2 hours 30 minutesAbout 2 hours 15 minutesUseful when Chennai fares jump, especially around Diwali
BengaluruAbout 2 hoursAbout 2 hours 30 minutesGood backup, slightly longer overall
Hyderabad or Delhi1½ – 2 hours2½ – 3½ hoursFewer daily options; we use them when the others are full
  • Why timing matters: flights reach Port Blair between late morning and mid-afternoon, and the last ferries to Havelock leave around midday or early afternoon. So day one is always Port Blair, and the first ferry is the next morning.
  • Going home: return flights leave Port Blair in the morning or around noon, which is why your last night is always in Port Blair, never on an island.
  • One ticket for both legs: we book the connection on a single ticket wherever possible so that a delayed first flight is the airline's responsibility, with a layover of at least two hours.
  • Seniors and infants: an evening flight from Ahmedabad to Chennai, a night at an airport hotel and the morning flight onward makes the journey far less tiring.
  • Train option: there is no rail link to the islands, but a few travellers take a train from Ahmedabad Kalupur to Chennai and fly from there to save on fares; the train alone takes well over a day.

Ferry planner: Port Blair, Havelock and Neil

Inter-island ferries decide how smoothly your trip runs. We book private air-conditioned catamarans, which run on fixed morning and afternoon schedules with assigned seats. Government ships are cheaper but tickets are sold close to the date and timings are less predictable, so we do not build packages on them.

RouteCrossing timeOne-way fare (per person)Book ahead
Port Blair to Havelock1½ – 2 hours₹1,200 – 2,500 by class3–4 weeks; 2 months for peak dates
Havelock to NeilAbout 1 hour₹1,000 – 2,000Same
Neil to Port Blair1 – 1½ hours₹1,200 – 2,500Same
  • Which class: premium or deluxe seats sit lower and closer to the centre of the vessel, which helps anyone who gets seasick. We use them by default for seniors and young children.
  • At the jetty: report an hour before sailing with a photo ID for every traveller; the name on the ticket must match the ID. Luggage is handed over at the counter, so pack a small day bag for the crossing.
  • When the sea says no: from late May to September, and on rare days in October, November or May, sailings are delayed or cancelled. In those months we keep a spare night in Port Blair and book refundable ferry fares where the operator allows.
  • Seasickness: a tablet half an hour before boarding and a light breakfast are usually enough; crossings from December to April are mostly smooth.

Vegetarian food, hotels and packing for Gujarati travellers

Pure-veg and Jain food, island by island

  • Port Blair: the easiest. Aberdeen Bazaar and the main roads have pure-vegetarian restaurants serving North Indian, South Indian and thali meals, and the better hotels handle Jain requests.
  • Havelock: a handful of pure-veg restaurants in the market area, and most mid-range and upscale resorts run a separate vegetarian kitchen. Jain meals need a day's notice.
  • Neil: the thinnest choice of the three. We book meals at your hotel and confirm the pure-veg or Jain menu in writing. Seafood is the local staple, so tell us if a shared kitchen is a concern.
  • Pack thepla, khakhra and dry snacks for ferry days and the early Baratang start; tender coconut and fruit are easy to find everywhere.

Choosing hotels

  • Port Blair: city hotels, many with sea views from the upper floors; this is a base for two nights, so convenience matters more than the pool.
  • Havelock: spend here. A beachfront cottage near Radhanagar or on the eastern beaches is the room you will remember.
  • Neil: comfortable small resorts in gardens near the beaches; nothing very large, which is part of the charm.

Practical notes

  • Carry enough cash. ATMs on Havelock and Neil can run out in peak season, and card machines fail when the network drops.
  • Mobile data is slow on the islands and resort Wi-Fi is basic; let family at home know.
  • Indian citizens need no permit for Port Blair, Havelock, Neil, Ross, North Bay or Baratang; carry photo ID for flights and ferries. Photographing the Jarawa community on the Baratang road is a criminal offence.
  • Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, a rash guard for snorkelling, a waterproof phone pouch, seasickness tablets and your regular medicines.

Why book your Andaman holiday with Vibrant Holidays

  • Planned in Ahmedabad: meet the team at our C G Road office, Monday to Saturday, or plan everything on WhatsApp; we have been sending Gujarati travellers to the islands since 2014.
  • Flights, ferries and hotels in one sequence: the connection from SVPI, the first sailing and every hotel night are booked together, so one missing piece does not undo the rest.
  • Transparent pricing: the packages on this page carry today's price, and your quote lists ferries, activities and taxes on separate lines.
  • Meals in writing: your pure-veg or Jain requirement is printed on each hotel voucher, including Neil, where it needs the most care.
  • Help on the ground: a 24x7 WhatsApp line and a Port Blair partner who rebooks ferries when weather intervenes. IATA-accredited; member of TAAI, TAFI, ADTOI and IATO; recognised by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India.

Andaman tour from Ahmedabad: FAQs

How much does a Andaman tour package from Ahmedabad cost?

Our Andaman packages currently start at ₹12,000 per person for 3 nights. Most of our Andaman packages fall between ₹20,750 and ₹36,500 per person. The final cost depends on the travel month, hotel category, number of travellers and whether flights from {$from} are added. Open any package below to see exactly what is included, or ask us for a quote with flights.

Is there a non-stop flight from Ahmedabad to Port Blair?

No. Flights from Ahmedabad to Port Blair stop or connect in Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad or Delhi, and the full journey takes about six to nine hours. Some fares are labelled direct because the flight number stays the same. We book both legs on one ticket with a safe layover.

How many days are enough for an Andaman trip from Ahmedabad?

Five nights is the right length: two in Port Blair, two on Havelock and one on Neil. Four nights works for a honeymoon that skips Neil. Six or seven nights adds Baratang, a scuba dive or an extra beach day. Because the journey takes most of a day each way, fewer than four nights is not worthwhile.

Which is the best month to visit the Andamans from Gujarat?

November to April has calm seas and clear water, with January to March best for snorkelling and diving. Gujarati families travelling in the May vacation should go in the first fortnight. Diwali works if you keep a spare night in Port Blair. Avoid island hopping from June to September, when ferries are often cancelled.

Is pure-veg and Jain food available in the Andamans?

Yes, with planning. Port Blair has several pure-vegetarian restaurants and hotels that handle Jain requests. Havelock has a few veg restaurants and resorts with separate veg kitchens. Neil has limited choice, so we fix meals with your hotel in writing. Carrying thepla and khakhra for ferry days is a good idea.

Are the Andaman ferries safe for senior citizens?

Yes. The private catamarans we book are air-conditioned with assigned seats, and crossings take one to two hours. We choose premium seats near the centre of the vessel for seniors, keep only one ferry per day, never schedule a ferry and a flight on the same day, and keep the last night in Port Blair.

Do Indian citizens need a permit for the Andamans?

No permit is needed for Indian citizens visiting Port Blair, Havelock, Neil, Ross Island, North Bay or Baratang. Carry an original photo ID for flights, ferries and hotel check-in. The Nicobar Islands are closed to tourists. Foreign passport holders in your family should tell us at booking, as different rules apply.

Can a non-swimmer try scuba diving at Havelock?

Yes. Introductory dives need no certificate and no swimming ability; an instructor holds you throughout at a shallow depth for about half an hour after a briefing. It costs roughly ₹3,500 to 5,000 with equipment and photos. People with heart, lung or ear conditions should get medical advice first.

Is the Andaman trip suitable for small children?

Yes. Radhanagar, Bharatpur and Corbyn's Cove have gentle, shallow water, and the glass-bottom boats show coral without getting wet. Keep the ferry legs short, carry snacks and a change of clothes, and skip the very early Baratang trip with toddlers. Five nights at an easy pace works well for families.

Should I choose the Andamans or the Maldives for a honeymoon from Ahmedabad?

Both need a one-stop flight of six to nine hours from Ahmedabad. The Andamans offer clear water, coral and beach resorts at roughly half to a third of the Maldives cost and without a passport. The Maldives wins on overwater villas and seclusion. With a budget under ₹80,000 per person, the Andamans make more sense.

What is not included in an Andaman package?

Flights unless added, scuba, sea walk, jet ski and glass-bottom boat rides, the Cellular Jail show ticket, Baratang boat and permit charges, meals other than breakfast unless a plan is chosen, personal expenses and 5% GST. Private ferries, transfers and listed sightseeing are included, and every quote lists inclusions and exclusions line by line.

Can we add Chennai or Kolkata sightseeing to the trip?

Yes. Because you change flights there anyway, a night in Chennai or Kolkata breaks the journey for seniors and adds a city day: Kapaleeshwarar temple and Marina beach in Chennai, or Dakshineswar and Victoria Memorial in Kolkata. We book the hotel and connecting flights on the same itinerary.
