Mauritius is the long-haul island that feels least foreign to a Gujarati family. Around two-thirds of Mauritians have Indian roots, Diwali is a national holiday with clay lamps on every doorstep, Hindi and Bhojpuri are understood in markets, and Port Louis has had a Gujarati trading community for more than a century. Indian passport holders need no visa in advance – the entry stamp is given at the airport – and the island is small enough that no sightseeing drive takes more than about ninety minutes. It is why honeymooners and three-generation families from Ahmedabad end up in the same resorts.

The part that needs planning is the journey. There is no non-stop from SVPI, so every trip starts with a choice between Mumbai and Dubai, and that choice shapes the cost, the first day and even whether you add a stopover. This page sets out that decision clearly, then gives indicative prices excluding flights, three itineraries built around Ahmedabad departures, a coast-by-coast resort guide for different kinds of travellers, timing around Diwali and the May vacation, and what vegetarian and Jain travellers can realistically expect.

Flights from Ahmedabad: one-stop return fares via Mumbai usually come to ₹45,000–68,000 per person when booked eight to ten weeks ahead; routings via Dubai on Emirates fall in a similar band and sometimes undercut Mumbai in the Mauritian winter. December, Diwali and the May vacation push both towards ₹75,000.

Typically extra: parasailing, undersea walk and submarine trips, the Casela zip-line and safari add-ons, dolphin boats from Tamarin, lunches on free days on a half-board plan, and tips. The Mauritian rupee trades at roughly 1.8–2 Indian rupees. We list each extra on your quote.

Getting to Mauritius from Ahmedabad: Mumbai or Dubai

Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU) is in the south-east of the island. As of October 2026 no airline flies non-stop from Ahmedabad, so every itinerary has one change.

RoutingAirlinesTotal time from SVPIBest for
Ahmedabad – Mumbai – MauritiusAir Mauritius on most days and Air India on some days for the Mumbai–Mauritius leg (about 6 hours); IndiGo, Air India or Akasa to MumbaiAbout 9 – 12 hoursShortest overall; honeymooners with limited leave
Ahmedabad – Dubai – MauritiusEmirates throughoutAbout 12 – 15 hoursOne airline and checked-through bags; adding a Dubai stopover
Ahmedabad – Delhi – MauritiusAir Mauritius a few days a week from DelhiAbout 11 – 14 hoursBackup when Mumbai flights are full in peak weeks
  • One ticket, not two: if Ahmedabad–Mumbai and Mumbai–Mauritius are separate bookings, a late domestic flight can cost you the international one. We keep both legs on one ticket so bags are checked through and the airline rebooks you if anything slips.
  • Mumbai terminals: some domestic flights arrive at Terminal 1 while Mauritius flights leave from Terminal 2. Allow at least three hours between flights when terminals differ.
  • Time zone: Mauritius is 1½ hours behind India. Most Mumbai departures land in the afternoon or evening, so the first day is a check-in and beach evening.
  • Schedules change: airline days and timings shift between the northern summer and winter schedules; we confirm what is operating for your dates when we quote.

Mauritius entry rules for Indian passport holders

As of October 2026; rules change – we check before you book. Indian citizens do not apply for a Mauritius visa in advance. On arrival, immigration stamps the passport for a tourist stay, usually for up to 60 days, provided you meet the conditions below.

  • Passport: valid for at least six months beyond arrival, with blank pages.
  • Return or onward ticket and a confirmed hotel booking for the whole stay; printed copies help at the counter.
  • Funds: officers may ask for proof of enough money for the stay; a forex card plus bank or credit cards is normally enough.
  • All-in-One Travel Form: a free online declaration covering immigration, customs and health, completed on the official Mauritius government portal shortly before travel. It produces a QR code that airlines and immigration may ask to see. We fill it with you for every traveller, including children.
  • Officer's discretion: visa-free does not mean automatic entry, but in practice tourists with a resort booking and return ticket pass through quickly. If you hold another passport or plan to work, different rules apply; ask us.

  • Day 3: Catamaran along the east coast to Ile aux Cerfs, with snorkelling, a waterfall stop and a vegetarian barbecue lunch on board.

8 nights – Dubai on the way, Mauritius to finish

Fly Emirates from Ahmedabad to Dubai and stop for three nights – Burj Khalifa, a desert safari with a vegetarian barbecue and a day at Abu Dhabi's BAPS Hindu Mandir – then continue on the same ticket to Mauritius for five nights on the north or west coast, and return via Dubai. The stopover costs only the hotel nights and the UAE visa, which we prepare and submit; approval is the UAE authority's decision. It is a favourite for anniversaries and parents' retirement trips.

Diwali, May vacation and the Mauritian calendar

The southern-hemisphere seasons work in Ahmedabad's favour. When Gujarat is at 43°C in May, Mauritius is entering its dry, mild winter at about 22–27°C. When Diwali comes round in late October or November, the island is warming up with calm seas.

Diwali in Mauritius: homes and temples are lit with diyas, families exchange sweets, and visitors are often welcomed in. Combine a Grand Bassin visit with the festive evening in a village or Port Louis. May vacation: resorts with kids' clubs fill early; book by February for the best rooms and fares.

Gujarati, veg and Jain food in Mauritius

Food is the least of a vegetarian traveller's worries here, but Jain diets still need advance notice.

  • Street food that is already vegetarian: dholl puri and roti stuffed or served with bean curry and rougaille, gateau piment (split-pea chilli fritters), samosas and the local sweet called napolitaine. Ask whether a curry contains fish or prawns before ordering; most Indian-Mauritian vendors understand the question at once.
  • Restaurants: Grand Baie, Flic-en-Flac, Quatre Bornes and Port Louis have Indian restaurants, including pure-vegetarian ones; resort buffets carry dal, vegetable curries, rice and rotis every evening.
  • Jain meals: 4- and 5-star resorts cook without onion, garlic or root vegetables when told in advance. We send the request with your booking and have it confirmed in writing; for excursions such as the catamaran, we arrange a separate Jain lunch box.
  • Snacks from home: theplas, khakhra and dry snacks are fine to carry in sealed packets; declare food on the travel form if asked.
  • Meal plan advice: half board suits most Gujarati families, because lunch happens on tour days. All-inclusive is worth it only if you will stay in the resort most days.

Practical tips for Ahmedabad travellers

  • Money: carry a forex card in USD or EUR; change a little cash at the airport for markets and tips. Indian rupees and UPI do not work.
  • Power sockets: UK-style three-pin and European two-pin both appear; carry a universal adapter.
  • Language: English and French are official, Creole is everyday speech, and drivers often speak Hindi – useful for grandparents.
  • Sun and sea: reef shoes for coral lagoons, reef-safe sunscreen, and motion-sickness tablets before a catamaran day.
  • Sundays: Port Louis market and many shops close; we put the city tour on a weekday.
  • Insurance: strongly recommended, and essential between January and March when cyclones can disrupt flights.

Mauritius tour from Ahmedabad: FAQs

How much does a Mauritius tour package from Ahmedabad cost?

Our Mauritius packages currently start at ₹19,999 per person for 4 nights. Most of our Mauritius packages fall between ₹29,500 and ₹74,000 per person. The final cost depends on the travel month, hotel category, number of travellers and whether flights from {$from} are added. Open any package below to see exactly what is included, or ask us for a quote with flights.

Is there a direct flight from Ahmedabad to Mauritius?

No, as of October 2026 there is no non-stop. Most travellers fly Ahmedabad–Mumbai and connect to the Air Mauritius or Air India flight, about six hours. Emirates via Dubai is the other common choice and allows a Dubai stopover. We keep both legs on one ticket so bags are checked through.

Do Indians need a visa for Mauritius?

No advance visa is needed. As of October 2026, Indian passport holders are given entry on arrival for tourism, usually for up to 60 days, with a valid passport, return ticket, hotel booking and funds. You also complete the free online All-in-One Travel Form. Entry is at the officer's discretion, and we recheck the rules before you fly.

How many days are enough for Mauritius from Ahmedabad?

Five nights suit a honeymoon with one tour day, a catamaran day and time at the resort. Six or seven nights are better for families who want both island tours, Casela park and a free day. Because the journey takes most of a day each way, we do not recommend fewer than four nights.

Is vegetarian and Jain food available in Mauritius?

Vegetarian food is easy: dholl puri, faratas and bean curries are everyday street food, and Indian restaurants are found in Grand Baie, Flic-en-Flac and Port Louis. Jain meals without onion, garlic or root vegetables are cooked by resorts on advance request, which we confirm in writing, and we arrange Jain lunch boxes for excursions.

Is Mauritius good for a Diwali holiday from Gujarat?

Yes. Diwali is a public holiday in Mauritius, temples and homes are lit with diyas, and the weather in late October and November is warm with calm seas. It is the busiest period for flights from India, so book Ahmedabad–Mumbai–Mauritius seats by July or August for the best fares.

Is Mauritius a good choice for the May vacation?

It is one of the best. May and June are the start of the dry Mauritian winter, around 22–27°C with low humidity, a welcome break from Gujarat's heat. Resorts with kids' clubs fill early and flights from Mumbai are busy, so book by February.

Mauritius via Mumbai or via Dubai – which is better?

Mumbai is shorter and usually the default for honeymooners. Dubai on Emirates is one airline end to end, sometimes cheaper in the Mauritian winter, and lets you add a three-night Dubai stopover on the same ticket. Senior citizens often prefer Mumbai for the shorter day; families wanting two holidays in one choose Dubai.

Which part of Mauritius is best for a honeymoon?

The west coast around Flic-en-Flac and Wolmar for sunsets and easy sightseeing, or Le Morne in the south-west for a quieter luxury resort. The east coast at Belle Mare has superb beaches but is windy from June to September. Most resorts offer honeymoon benefits against a recent marriage certificate.

Is Mauritius suitable for senior citizens from Ahmedabad?

Very much. Drives are short, Hindi is understood, food is familiar and the north and west lagoons are calm. We book ground-floor rooms, one outing per day, Grand Bassin in the morning and a speedboat instead of the long catamaran day. The only demanding part is the long journey, so we prefer daytime flights via Mumbai.

How much spending money should we carry to Mauritius?

With a half-board resort and tours prepaid, plan about ₹3,000–5,000 per person per day for lunches, drinks, tips and small purchases, more if you add water sports or a submarine trip. Carry a forex card and a little Mauritian rupee cash. Indian rupees and UPI are not accepted.

Can we visit Grand Bassin temple on a Mauritius package?

Yes, it is part of our south-west tour. Ganga Talao, also called Grand Bassin, is a crater lake with Shiva, Hanuman and Durga shrines and the tall Mangal Mahadev statue nearby. Go in the morning, dress modestly and carry a scarf. Around Maha Shivratri the site is very crowded with pilgrims.
