South Africa is the one long-haul destination where a single trip gives you a world-class city, a wildlife safari, a scenic coastal drive and a resort week. Cape Town and Table Mountain, the Garden Route to Knysna, a Big Five safari in Kruger or the malaria-free Pilanesberg, and Sun City for the family fit comfortably into 8 to 10 nights. English is spoken everywhere, the rand is kind to the Indian rupee compared with Europe, and the Gujarati community in Durban and Johannesburg means vegetarian food is never far away.
Every package below is on sale today with live prices. Below the packages we explain what a South Africa trip costs from Ahmedabad, how the visa works and how long it takes, three itineraries for honeymooners, families and first-timers, how to choose between Kruger and the malaria-free parks, the month-by-month weather for safari versus Cape Town, and the questions our Gujarati clients ask most.
South Africa tour package price guide (2026)
Packages on this page start at ₹30,000 per person. The two things that move a South Africa quote most are the safari lodge (a national-park rest camp costs a fraction of a private game reserve) and whether Sun City or the Winelands are included. The bands below are per person on twin sharing, excluding international flights, with hotels and breakfast, private or seat-in-coach transfers, two game drives and the main city tours.
| Trip | Standard (3★) | Deluxe (4★) | Premium (5★ / private reserve) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7N/8D Cape Town – Garden Route – Pilanesberg (malaria-free) | ₹1,10,000 – 1,35,000 | ₹1,45,000 – 1,85,000 | ₹2,50,000+ |
| 9N/10D Cape Town – Garden Route – Kruger – Johannesburg | ₹1,35,000 – 1,65,000 | ₹1,80,000 – 2,30,000 | ₹3,00,000+ |
| 10N/11D honeymoon with Winelands and Sun City | ₹1,50,000 – 1,80,000 | ₹2,00,000 – 2,50,000 | ₹3,40,000+ |
| 11N/12D South Africa + Mauritius | ₹1,90,000 – 2,30,000 | ₹2,50,000 – 3,20,000 | ₹4,00,000+ |
Add for flights: Ahmedabad–Johannesburg or Cape Town return fares with one stop are usually ₹65,000–95,000 per person when booked 8–10 weeks ahead; December holidays run higher. Usually extra on the ground: visa fee and VFS service charge, Table Mountain cableway tickets, Cape Point and Boulders Beach entry, national-park conservation fees, optional shark-cage diving or helicopter flips, Sun City Valley of Waves tickets, tips for drivers and rangers (budget about ₹1,500 per person per day), and travel insurance, which is mandatory for the visa. Every quote lists these separately.
How to reach South Africa from Ahmedabad
- By air: there is no non-stop service from Ahmedabad or from India to South Africa at the time of writing, so we route you with one stop through Dubai, Doha, Addis Ababa or Nairobi from Ahmedabad, or connect via Mumbai. Expect 15–18 hours door to door including the connection. Johannesburg (JNB) is the usual arrival point; we fly you out of Cape Town (CPT) so you never backtrack.
- Inside South Africa: domestic flights link Johannesburg, Cape Town, George (Garden Route), Durban and the Kruger airports (Nelspruit/Skukuza or Hoedspruit) in 1–2 hours. The Garden Route itself is a 5–6 hour drive from Cape Town to Knysna with stops, which we do over two days in a private vehicle.
- Time difference: South Africa is 3 h 30 min behind India, so jet lag is mild – an evening arrival from Ahmedabad lets you start sightseeing the next morning.
- Getting around: private air-conditioned vehicles with English-speaking driver-guides for city and Garden Route days, and open 4×4 safari vehicles for game drives. Every trip is a private, customised itinerary – your own vehicle and driver, your own dates; extended families and friend groups travel together as a private group.
Best South Africa itineraries by traveller type

- Day 4: Drive the Garden Route to Oudtshoorn via Route 62; ostrich farm and Cango Caves.
- Day 5: Knysna lagoon cruise and Knysna Heads; Plettenberg Bay beaches; overnight Knysna.

9 nights / 10 days – the complete first-timer trip with Kruger
Days 1–5 as above in Cape Town and the Garden Route. On Day 6 fly to Johannesburg and drive the Panorama Route (Blyde River Canyon, God's Window, Bourke's Luck Potholes) to a lodge at the Kruger gate. Days 7–8 are full safari days with a dawn game drive, a rest through the midday heat and an afternoon drive into dusk. Day 9 returns to Johannesburg for the Apartheid Museum or Soweto tour and shopping at Sandton; Day 10 fly home. Add one night for Sun City if you have children.
10 nights / 11 days – South Africa honeymoon
Three nights in Cape Town with a sunset cruise and a Camps Bay dinner, one night in the Stellenbosch or Franschhoek Winelands (non-alcoholic tastings and vineyard lunches are available), two nights on the Garden Route in a Knysna lagoon-view room, two nights at a private game reserve near Kruger with a candle-lit bush dinner, and two nights at Sun City's Palace or Cascades. We add 2–3 nights at a Mauritius beach resort when the budget allows, since Johannesburg–Mauritius is a 4-hour flight.
Visa for Indians and choosing your safari – the buyer's guide
South Africa visa – what we do and how long it takes
- Type: Indian passport holders need a visitor visa before travel. The standard route is a sticker visa filed through the VFS centre; South Africa has also been rolling out electronic travel authorisation and a trusted-tour-operator scheme for Indian group travellers, which we use when it applies to your booking. We tell you at the time of quoting which route your group qualifies for.
- Timeline: allow 3–5 weeks from submission to passport return in normal months, and 6 weeks before December. We ask for your documents 8 weeks before departure.
- Documents: passport valid six months beyond return with two blank pages, photos to specification, bank statements for six months, income-tax returns, the confirmed itinerary and hotel vouchers we provide, return tickets, travel insurance and a cover letter we draft for you. Biometrics are taken at the VFS centre in Ahmedabad for most applicants.
- Fee: the visa and VFS service charges together are usually in the ₹3,000–4,000 range per person; we quote the exact current figure with your package rather than guess here.
- Our role: we prepare and submit your visa application and track it; approval is at the embassy's discretion, which is why we insist on the 8-week lead time and never ticket non-refundable flights before the visa is issued.
- Yellow fever: not required when flying from India via the Gulf; required only if you transit through a yellow-fever country for more than 12 hours. We check your routing against this rule.
Kruger or malaria-free? Picking the right safari
| Kruger National Park | Pilanesberg / Madikwe (malaria-free) | |
|---|---|---|
| Wildlife | Largest park, highest density of Big Five, best for serious safari-goers | All Big Five present in Pilanesberg; smaller area so sightings are quicker |
| Malaria | Low-risk zone; prophylaxis is advised, especially November–April | None – no tablets needed |
| Best for | Couples, photographers, repeat visitors | Families with children under 10, senior citizens, pregnant travellers |
| Distance from Johannesburg | 5–6 h drive or 1 h flight | 2½ h drive; next to Sun City |
| Cost | Rest camps are cheapest; private reserves most expensive | Mid-range lodges; combines with Sun City resort stay |
A good compromise for a three-generation family is Pilanesberg for the safari plus Sun City for the children, with Kruger kept for a second trip.
Best time to visit South Africa – month by month
South Africa's seasons are the reverse of India's, and the safari season and the Cape Town season are opposite to each other. The table resolves it.
| Months | Weather | Good for | Prices |
|---|---|---|---|
| April – May | Autumn: mild everywhere, 15–25°C, Cape Town still sunny | Best all-round months – good safari and good Cape Town; Gujarat May vacation | Moderate |
| June – August | Winter: dry and cool in Kruger (excellent game viewing, thin bush); Cape Town wet and 8–17°C | Safari-focused trips, whale watching begins at Hermanus | Low in Cape Town, moderate in Kruger |
| September – October | Spring: wildflowers in the Western Cape, warming up, still dry in Kruger | Everyone; whales at Hermanus; Diwali departures from Ahmedabad | Moderate to high |
| November – December | Summer begins: Cape Town hot and dry, 25–30°C; Kruger hot with afternoon storms | Cape Town and beaches, honeymoons; Christmas week is South Africa's own peak | Highest in late December |
| January – March | Peak summer: Cape Town at its best; Kruger humid and green, animals harder to spot | Beach and city trips, Garden Route | High in January, easing by March |
For a balanced Cape Town + safari trip from Gujarat, the Diwali window (October–November) and April–May are the sweet spots. If the safari is the priority, travel June–September and accept a cooler, wetter Cape Town.
Places to visit in South Africa
- Cape Town: Table Mountain, the V&A Waterfront, Bo-Kaap's painted houses, Camps Bay beach and Robben Island – the most beautiful city on the continent.
- Cape Peninsula: Chapman's Peak Drive, Cape Point and the penguins at Boulders Beach in a single day loop.
- Winelands: Stellenbosch and Franschhoek for vineyard scenery, the wine tram and farm-to-table lunches; grape-juice tastings are offered for non-drinkers.
- Hermanus: land-based whale watching from June to November, two hours from Cape Town.
- Garden Route: Oudtshoorn's Cango Caves and ostrich farms, Knysna lagoon, Plettenberg Bay, Tsitsikamma's suspension bridge and the Bloukrans bungee.
- Kruger National Park and the Panorama Route: Big Five safaris plus Blyde River Canyon and God's Window on the drive in.
- Sun City and Pilanesberg: the Palace of the Lost City, the Valley of Waves water park and a malaria-free Big Five park next door.
- Johannesburg and Soweto: Apartheid Museum, Constitution Hill, Nelson Mandela's house, Sandton shopping.
- Durban: the Golden Mile beachfront, uShaka Marine World and the largest Indian community outside India – a natural stop for Gujarati travellers.
- Victoria Falls (add-on): a 1 h 45 min flight from Johannesburg to Zimbabwe or Zambia for 2 nights; needs a separate visa we arrange.
Food, hotels and tips for Gujarati travellers
- Vegetarian and Jain food: South Africa has roughly 1.5 million people of Indian origin, many of them Gujarati, so this is one of the easiest long-haul destinations for pure-veg food. Durban (Chatsworth, Phoenix and the city centre) and Johannesburg (Fordsburg, Lenasia, Laudium) have Gujarati-run restaurants serving thali, dhokla and undhiyu, and several temples with weekend community meals. Cape Town has a dozen Indian restaurants, most with a full vegetarian menu. Safari lodges cook to order – we send your vegetarian or Jain requirement in writing at booking and again a week before arrival, and lodges routinely manage onion-garlic-free meals with notice.
- Hotel categories: in Cape Town the choice is between the Waterfront (convenient, pricier) and Sea Point or the city bowl (better value). On the Garden Route a lagoon-view room in Knysna is worth the upgrade. For safari, a national-park rest camp is basic but authentic; a private lodge adds guided drives in open vehicles, meals and a far higher comfort level.
- Health: Kruger is a low-risk malaria area; carry prophylaxis prescribed by your doctor if you go, or choose Pilanesberg and skip the tablets. Tap water is safe in cities.
- Money: the South African rand is roughly ₹4.5–5; cards are accepted almost everywhere, and we suggest ₹20,000–25,000 per person in rand for tips, markets and small purchases. UPI does not work.
- Safety: stick to the tourist areas, do not walk alone after dark in Johannesburg or central Cape Town, and keep valuables in the hotel safe. With a driver-guide, which all our packages include, there is nothing to worry about.
- Pack: layers – mornings on safari are cold even in summer; neutral colours for game drives, a hat, sunscreen, binoculars and a good camera zoom. Type-M three-pin plugs are different from India's; carry an adaptor.

South Africa tour packages – frequently asked questions
How much does a South Africa trip cost from Ahmedabad?
Packages on this page start at ₹30,000 per person. A 9-night Cape Town, Garden Route and Kruger trip in 3-star hotels costs about ₹1,35,000–1,65,000 per person excluding flights; 4-star hotels and a private game lodge take it to ₹1,80,000–2,30,000. Return flights from Ahmedabad with one stop add roughly ₹65,000–95,000 per person.
Do Indians need a visa for South Africa, and how long does it take?
Yes. Most Indian travellers need a visitor visa filed through VFS before departure, with biometrics at the Ahmedabad centre; some group bookings qualify for the newer electronic routes. Allow 3–5 weeks for processing and give us documents 8 weeks ahead. We prepare the cover letter, itinerary and hotel confirmations the visa office expects.
How many days are enough for South Africa?
Eight nights is the practical minimum for Cape Town, the Garden Route and one safari. Nine to ten nights adds Kruger properly or Sun City for families. Twelve nights lets you combine Mauritius or Victoria Falls. Shorter than seven nights is not worth the 15-hour journey from Ahmedabad.
Is there a direct flight from India to South Africa?
Not at present. From Ahmedabad we route you via Dubai, Doha, Addis Ababa or Nairobi with a single stop, or via Mumbai. Total journey time is 15–18 hours. The 3½-hour time difference means jet lag is minor, and we book arrivals that let you start sightseeing the next morning.
When is the best time for a safari in South Africa?
May to September – the dry winter – is best for game viewing: the bush is thin, animals gather at waterholes and there is little malaria risk. Cape Town is cooler and wetter in those months. For a balanced trip with good weather in both, choose April–May or September–October, which also matches Diwali departures from Gujarat.
Is vegetarian and Jain food easy to find in South Africa?
Yes – easier than almost any other long-haul destination. Durban and Johannesburg have large Gujarati communities with pure-veg restaurants and temples; Cape Town has many Indian restaurants with vegetarian menus. Safari lodges cook to order and manage Jain meals with advance notice, which we send in writing when we book.
Is South Africa safe for Indian tourists?
Yes, when you travel the way our packages are built – private vehicles with driver-guides, hotels in tourist areas, and no unaccompanied walking after dark in Johannesburg or the Cape Town city centre. Tens of thousands of Indian tourists visit every year without incident; ordinary caution with valuables is all that is needed.
Kruger or Pilanesberg – which safari should we choose?
Kruger is the larger, more famous park with the best Big Five density, but it is a low-risk malaria area and 5–6 hours from Johannesburg. Pilanesberg is malaria-free, 2½ hours from Johannesburg, next to Sun City and has all the Big Five. We recommend Pilanesberg for families with young children and seniors, and Kruger for couples and photographers.
Is South Africa good for a honeymoon?
Very good. Cape Town sunsets, a Winelands stay, a private game lodge with a bush dinner and a Sun City or Mauritius beach finish make a varied 10–12 night honeymoon. Compared with Europe the rand stretches further, so 4-star and boutique stays are affordable. Honeymoon décor and private dinners are arranged on request.
Do we need malaria tablets or any vaccination?
Only Kruger and the far north-east are malaria zones, and the risk is low in the dry season; your doctor can prescribe prophylaxis if you go. Pilanesberg, Sun City, Cape Town and the Garden Route are malaria-free. No yellow-fever certificate is needed when flying from India via the Gulf, Addis or Nairobi without a long transit.
What is usually not included in the package?
International flights unless added, visa and VFS fees, travel insurance, Table Mountain cableway, Cape Point and park conservation fees, optional activities such as shark-cage diving or helicopter rides, meals not listed, tips (budget about ₹1,500 per person per day) and 5% GST. Each is shown as a separate line in our quote.
Can we combine South Africa with Mauritius or Victoria Falls?
Yes. Johannesburg–Mauritius is a 4-hour flight, so a 3–4 night beach extension works well for honeymooners. Victoria Falls is 1 h 45 min from Johannesburg and needs a separate Zimbabwe or Zambia visa, which we arrange. Each extension adds roughly ₹45,000–70,000 per person including the regional flight in 3–4 star hotels.
