Good forFamilies with teens, couples, photographers, fit seniors

Ladakh has become one of the most requested summer trips from Ahmedabad, and the travellers are no longer only young bikers. We plan Leh holidays for couples, for parents with teenage children, and for retired Gujarati couples who want to stand beside Pangong once in their lives. All of them can do it comfortably, but only if the plan respects altitude. Leh is at about 3,500 m, Pangong at about 4,350 m and the passes on the way cross 5,000 m. Coming from Ahmedabad, which sits barely 50 m above sea level, your body needs time.

That is what this page is built around. It explains what a Ladakh package costs, the three ways to get there from Ahmedabad and which one suits whom, three itineraries that put rest first, a plain checklist for altitude and permits, a month-by-month table that tracks road openings and the Gujarat holiday calendar, and an honest meal plan for pure-veg and Jain travellers that does not pretend the Pangong camp kitchen is a city restaurant. Each package shown here carries its live price.

Ladakh package price guide from Ahmedabad (2026)

Ladakh packages on our site start at ₹15,500 per person, and 24 are currently available. Ladakh costs more per night than Himachal or Kashmir: the season is short, everything travels up by road or air, and you hire one vehicle with a local driver for the whole trip. The bands below are per person on twin sharing with breakfast and dinner, a private vehicle, permit fees and an oxygen cylinder in the car. Flights are not included.

Flights from Ahmedabad: a return trip via Delhi usually costs ₹18,000 – 35,000 per person. The Delhi–Leh leg is the expensive part and swings the most: cheapest in May and September, dearest in June and in Diwali week. Booking six to eight weeks ahead makes a large difference for this route.

Not included on the ground: lunches on long drive days, monastery tickets, the camel ride at Hunder, rafting on the Zanskar, ATV rides in Nubra, the Delhi airport hotel if you break the journey, and 5% GST. Every quote shows the hotel and camp names, the vehicle type and these extras on separate lines.

The Delhi night we recommend

Flights land in Leh only in the morning, because afternoon winds make later landings unsafe. Catching one on the same day means leaving Ahmedabad before dawn, and a single delay can cost you the flight. Our usual plan is an evening flight from SVPI to Delhi, a night at an airport hotel, and the first Leh flight the next morning. You arrive rested, by mid-morning, with a whole day to acclimatise.

The Srinagar road

Ahmedabad has non-stop flights to Srinagar. From there the road to Leh crosses Zoji La, Drass and Kargil to Lamayuru and usually opens between April and May and stays open until about November. Spread over two days with a night in Kargil, it lets the body adjust slowly, and you get two nights in Kashmir as a bonus. It pairs well with our Kashmir packages from Ahmedabad.

Manali–Leh highway

The Manali road crosses passes above 4,900 m and usually opens from June to mid-October. It is spectacular but tough, with a night at high altitude before you have acclimatised. We plan it only for fit adults, typically as the road in, with a flight home from Leh.

No train reaches Ladakh. Travellers who prefer rail can take a train from Ahmedabad Kalupur to Delhi or Jammu Tawi and fly or drive on from there.

Rest-first Ladakh itineraries from Ahmedabad

6 nights / 7 days – family plan (our standard Ladakh route)

  • Day 0: Evening flight Ahmedabad–Delhi, airport hotel.
  • Day 1: Morning flight to Leh. Full rest: no sightseeing, no climbing stairs, plenty of water, a light lunch and an early dinner. A short walk to Shanti Stupa at sunset only if everyone is well.
  • Day 2: Sham Valley at roughly Leh's altitude – Hall of Fame, Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, Magnetic Hill and the Indus–Zanskar confluence. Back in Leh by mid-afternoon.
  • Day 3: Over Khardung La (a short photo stop only) to Nubra; Diskit monastery and its giant Buddha, Hunder sand dunes and the two-humped camels. Night at about 3,100 m, lower than Leh.
  • Day 4: Nubra to Pangong by the Shyok river road; afternoon at the lake and a night in a heated camp.
  • Day 5: Pangong at sunrise, then back to Leh over Chang La, visiting Thiksey monastery and Shey on the way.
  • Day 6: Leh Palace, Hemis monastery, the old town and the bazaar; rafting for those who want it.
  • Day 7: Fly Leh–Delhi–Ahmedabad.

5 nights / 6 days – couples

The same two acclimatisation days, then a luxury camp in Nubra with an optional drive to Turtuk, the Balti village of apricot orchards near the Line of Control. Pangong comes next with a lake-view glamping tent and a private dinner, then Leh and the flight home. We never place the Pangong night before day four.

7 nights / 8 days – parents and seniors

The family plan with an extra night in Leh after Pangong. Passes are crossed without stopping if anyone feels unwell; the lake night can be moved to Tangtse or Spangmik camps that are slightly lower, or replaced with a day visit. We choose Leh hotels with ground-floor rooms or lifts, drive up to the top gates of monasteries wherever possible, and keep every drive day within about six hours.

Each Ladakh trip is private, with your own vehicle and Ladakhi driver for the whole stay. Larger families and friends' groups travel in a Tempo Traveller or two Innovas on their own dates.

Altitude and permit checklist for Gujarati families

Before you leave Ahmedabad

  • See your family doctor, especially if anyone is above 60 or has blood pressure, heart, lung or kidney conditions. Many doctors prescribe acetazolamide (Diamox) for altitude; that decision is your doctor's, not ours.
  • Pack your regular medicines for the full trip plus a few days, as pharmacies outside Leh are basic.
  • Carry a postpaid SIM if you need a signal: prepaid connections from outside Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh generally do not work there.

In Ladakh

  • First 24 hours: rest. A mild headache or breathlessness on the stairs is normal on arrival day. Vomiting, confusion, a persistent cough or extreme tiredness are not, and mean going down and seeing a doctor straight away.
  • Climb slowly, sleep lower: Nubra (about 3,100 m) comes before Pangong (about 4,350 m); Khardung La and Chang La are crossed, not visited.
  • Drink and eat light: three to four litres of water a day, no alcohol for the first two days, simple vegetarian food.
  • In the car: every vehicle carries an oxygen cylinder and a pulse oximeter, and drivers know the medical posts on each route. Leh's district hospital has a dedicated high-altitude ward.
  • Who should not go: pregnant women, very young children and anyone with uncontrolled heart or lung disease.

Permits

Indian citizens visiting Nubra, Pangong, Tso Moriri and Hanle register with the Leh district administration and pay an environment and wildlife fee of a few hundred rupees per person. We arrange this before you land and include the fee in your package; carry photocopies of your photo ID for the checkposts. Rules have changed several times since Ladakh became a union territory, so as of October 2026 we confirm the current process for your dates. Foreign passport holders in your group need a separate protected-area permit, so tell us at booking.

For families from Gujarat the two practical windows are the second half of May and the June–September stretch. Diwali in Ladakh is possible and very beautiful, but expect nights well below zero at Pangong and some camps already closed; for Diwali we often suggest Leh, Nubra and Sham Valley with a day visit to the lake.

Places to see in Ladakh on a trip from Ahmedabad

  • Pangong Tso: the long, colour-shifting lake that most people come for; sunrise from the camp is the moment to wait for.
  • Nubra Valley: Diskit's hilltop monastery and Buddha statue, sand dunes at Hunder and Bactrian camel rides.
  • Turtuk: a Balti village of stone houses and apricot trees, about two and a half hours beyond Hunder.
  • Thiksey and Hemis: two of Ladakh's great monasteries; Thiksey's early-morning prayers are worth the alarm.
  • Sham Valley: Magnetic Hill, the Indus–Zanskar confluence, Gurudwara Pathar Sahib and the murals of Alchi.
  • Leh town: Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa at sunset, the old town lanes and the main bazaar for pashmina and apricot products.
  • Tso Moriri: a remote, quieter high lake for longer trips and well-acclimatised travellers.
  • Lamayuru and Kargil: the "moonland" cliffs and an old monastery on the Srinagar road; Kargil's war memorial at Drass.
  • Hanle: India's dark-sky reserve for stargazing, with its own permit rules.

Pure-veg and Jain meals, hotels and packing for Ladakh

Where you stay

  • Leh: 3- and 4-star hotels and a few boutique properties with gardens; lifts are uncommon, so we request lower floors for seniors.
  • Nubra: camps and small hotels at Hunder and Diskit, many with attached bathrooms.
  • Pangong: only camps are allowed near the lake, from basic tents to heated glamping units. Ask for heaters and attached bathrooms; we include both from deluxe category up.

Packing from Ahmedabad

  • Layers rather than one heavy coat: thermals, fleece, a windproof down jacket, woollen cap, gloves and warm socks. Even in July, Pangong nights are cold.
  • Strong sunglasses, sunscreen and lip balm – the sun at this height burns quickly.
  • A reusable water bottle, a power bank (camps run generators for limited hours) and cash, as ATMs exist only in Leh.

Ladakh tour from Ahmedabad: FAQs

How much does a Ladakh tour package from Ahmedabad cost?

Our Ladakh packages currently start at ₹15,500 per person for 3 nights. Most of our Ladakh packages fall between ₹33,206 and ₹45,000 per person. The final cost depends on the travel month, hotel category, number of travellers and whether flights from {$from} are added. Open any package below to see exactly what is included, or ask us for a quote with flights.

Is there a direct flight from Ahmedabad to Leh?

Not usually. Most travellers fly Ahmedabad to Delhi and then take a morning flight to Leh; Mumbai to Leh non-stops also operate in season. Because Leh flights land only in the morning, we recommend flying to Delhi the previous evening and staying at an airport hotel so a delay does not cost you a day.

Can I go from Ahmedabad to Ladakh by road or train?

No train reaches Ladakh. You can fly non-stop from Ahmedabad to Srinagar and drive to Leh over two days via Kargil, which also helps acclimatisation. Driving all the way from Ahmedabad is roughly 2,000 km and only suits dedicated road-trippers. The Manali route works for fit adults in summer.

How many days do we need for Ladakh from Ahmedabad?

Six nights in Ladakh is right for most families: two in Leh to acclimatise, one in Nubra, one at Pangong and two more in Leh. Add a Delhi night before the Leh flight. Five nights suits fit couples; seven or eight nights adds Turtuk, Tso Moriri or a gentler pace for seniors.

Is Ladakh safe for senior citizens from Gujarat?

Healthy seniors complete our seven-night Ladakh plan every season. The keys are a doctor's check before travel, a full rest day in Leh, Nubra before Pangong, oxygen and an oximeter in the car, and the option to sleep lower than the lake. Anyone with uncontrolled heart or lung disease should not go.

When should a Gujarati family plan a Ladakh trip?

The second half of the May vacation and June to September are the best windows, with all main routes open. September offers the clearest skies and better prices. Diwali trips are possible but cold, with some Pangong camps already closed. From November to March, Ladakh is for experienced winter travellers only.

Will we get vegetarian and Jain food in Ladakh?

In Leh, yes: pure-veg restaurants are common and hotels prepare Jain meals with notice. Camps in Nubra and at Pangong serve simple vegetarian food but cannot run a true Jain kitchen. We send your requirement in writing to every stop and suggest carrying thepla, khakhra and instant poha for the lake night.

Do Indian tourists need a permit for Pangong and Nubra?

Indian citizens register with the Leh administration and pay an environment and wildlife fee to visit Nubra, Pangong, Tso Moriri and Hanle. We complete the process before you arrive and include the fee in the package. Carry ID photocopies for checkposts. Rules have changed several times in recent years, so we confirm them for your dates.

How do we avoid altitude sickness after flying from Ahmedabad?

Rest completely on the first day, drink three to four litres of water, eat light vegetarian meals, avoid alcohol for two days and ascend gradually. Ask your doctor about preventive medicine before you fly. Mild headache is common at first; persistent vomiting, confusion or a dry cough need immediate descent and medical attention.

Do mobile phones work in Ladakh?

Only postpaid connections work in Ladakh; most prepaid SIMs from Gujarat will not. Leh town has reasonable coverage, Nubra is patchy and Pangong has little or none. Carry enough cash, since ATMs are only in Leh and UPI needs a signal, and tell family at home to expect no calls on the lake night.

Can we combine Kashmir and Ladakh in one trip from Ahmedabad?

Yes, and it is a sensible plan. Fly non-stop from Ahmedabad to Srinagar, spend two or three nights in Kashmir, drive to Leh over two days via Sonamarg and Kargil, then cover Nubra and Pangong and fly home from Leh via Delhi. Ten to eleven nights is a comfortable length for this circuit.

What clothes should we carry for Ladakh in summer?

Days in Leh can be warm in the sun, but nights are cold and Pangong drops close to freezing even in July. Pack thermals, a fleece, a windproof down jacket, cap, gloves and woollen socks, plus sunglasses, sunscreen and lip balm. Comfortable walking shoes matter more than fashionable ones at monasteries.
