Good forFirst snow, honeymoon, long weekends with leave, summer escape

Bangalore has one of the mildest climates of any big Indian city, which is exactly why Manali appeals. A Bengaluru winter morning might dip to 15°C; Solang Valley in January sits well below zero, and Sissu on the far side of the Atal Tunnel can hold a metre of snow. For children who have only seen snow at an indoor play zone, and for couples who want mountains that look nothing like Coorg or Ooty, Manali is the obvious trip. It is also a long way: about 2,600 km by road, so almost everyone flies.

This guide is written for travellers leaving from Bangalore. It covers what the trip costs, the flights from Kempegowda International (and when a Delhi connection or the long train makes sense), three itineraries including a summer route into Lahaul that most Manali pages ignore, how Karnataka school holidays and city long weekends line up with Manali's seasons, a month-by-month table, and practical advice on cold, altitude and food for south Indian travellers. Your trip is planned remotely by our team in Ahmedabad; there is no Bengaluru office, and everything is handled on WhatsApp or phone. Every trip is private, with your own car and driver.

Flights from Bangalore: a Kempegowda–Chandigarh return usually costs about ₹11,000 – 20,000 per person if booked five to six weeks ahead. Bengaluru–Delhi return is about ₹8,000 – 14,000, and a Delhi–Kullu sector adds ₹9,000 – 20,000 return because there are few seats on small aircraft. Christmas–New Year, the April–May holidays and long weekends push fares up by 40–70%.

Usually paid on the spot: snow suits and boots for Solang (about ₹300 – 500 a set), the ropeway and snow activities, paragliding, rafting near Kullu, the Rohtang permit and local taxi in season, lunches and tips. The Chandratal plan uses a local 4x4 for the last stretch, which is included in that row. Each extra appears on the quote with an estimate.

The open-jaw saving: flying into Chandigarh and out of Kullu (via Delhi) removes one full day of road travel. It costs more in airfare but frees a day for sightseeing, which matters when every day of leave counts.

Getting from Bangalore to Manali

Kempegowda (BLR) to Chandigarh: the main route

As of October 2026, schedule data shows IndiGo and Air India Express flying non-stop between Bengaluru and Chandigarh about five times a day, taking around 3 hours 10 minutes, with departures spread from early morning to night. Pick the earliest flight you can manage. A 6 am departure lands before 9:30, and with a 7–8 hour drive on the four-lane highway to Mandi and the Kullu road you reach Manali in the early evening. A midday or later flight means arriving after dark on hill roads; in that case we book a night in Mandi or Kullu and continue fresh in the morning. Allow time for the drive to Devanahalli: from Electronic City or Sarjapur Road it can take 1½ hours or more.

Via Delhi, and the Kullu shortcut

There are many Bengaluru–Delhi flights of about 2¾ hours. From IGI, Alliance Air flies to Kullu–Bhuntar on small turboprops in roughly 1 hour 20 minutes; Bhuntar is 50 km from Manali. The catch is weather: low cloud in the valley cancels flights, and baggage limits are strict. We like it for the return leg of an open-jaw trip. If the Kullu flight is grounded, our driver takes you to Chandigarh for a later flight, and that back-up is planned before you leave home.

By train: only for rail enthusiasts

The Karnataka Sampark Kranti runs between Yesvantpur and Chandigarh, reversing at Pune; published timetables show it running twice a week and taking about 49 hours. Add the 7–8 hour drive and you spend more than two days each way, so it only makes sense if the train journey is part of the holiday.

Three Manali itineraries from Bangalore

5 nights / 6 days – first snow, open-jaw (mid-December to February)

  • Day 1: Early flight from Bengaluru to Chandigarh. Drive to Mandi (about 4½ hours) and stay overnight beside the Beas; this halves the first day for children not used to hill roads.
  • Day 2: On to Manali via the Kullu valley, a slow morning drive with river views. Afternoon at Hadimba temple and Van Vihar.
  • Day 3: Solang Valley: snow suits from Palchan, ropeway, sledging and a first ski lesson.
  • Day 4: Atal Tunnel to Sissu if the road is open after snowfall; otherwise Kothi and Gulaba for snow on the Rohtang road.
  • Day 5: A slow day: Vashisht hot springs, Old Manali cafés, shawl shopping.
  • Day 6: Drive 1½ hours to Bhuntar for the Kullu–Delhi flight and connect home; road plan via Chandigarh kept ready.

6 nights / 7 days – Manali and Lahaul in summer (mid-June to September)

  • Day 1: Fly to Chandigarh and drive to Manali.
  • Day 2: Hadimba, Old Manali and a walk to Jogini waterfall to start acclimatising.
  • Day 3: Through the Atal Tunnel to Sissu and Keylong, then Jispa on the Bhaga river (about 3,300 m). Overnight in Jispa.
  • Day 4: Back down the Bhaga to Tandi, then up the Chandra valley past Gramphu and Batal, the last stretch to Chandratal lake (about 4,250 m) by local 4x4; overnight in a camp near the lake.
  • Day 5: Sunrise at the lake; drive back via Batal and Gramphu and through the Atal Tunnel to Manali by evening.
  • Day 6: Solang for paragliding, or Naggar Castle and the Roerich gallery for a gentler day.
  • Day 7: Drive to Chandigarh and fly to Bengaluru.

Lahaul lies in the rain shadow of the main Himalayan range, so it stays dry in July and August when the Kullu valley is wet. The road from Chandigarh up to Manali is still exposed to landslides in those months, so this plan carries a spare day in July and August. Chandratal camping depends on the road opening, usually from June to early October.

4 nights / 5 days – April or October couples' trip

  • Day 1: Morning flight to Chandigarh; drive to Manali.
  • Day 2: Solang paragliding in clear weather; apple blossom in April, orchards heavy with fruit in early autumn.
  • Day 3: Sissu and the Chandra river; Rohtang instead in late May or October if the pass is open and a permit is granted.
  • Day 4: Naggar, Jana waterfall and a riverside café.
  • Day 5: Kullu–Delhi flight or drive to Chandigarh for the flight home.

Each plan is private: your own cab and driver, your own dates, and families or friends travelling together as a private group.

Karnataka school holidays, long weekends and taking leave

Bengaluru families and IT professionals usually work Manali around three kinds of break.

  • Summer vacation (April to late May): Karnataka state schools typically close in April and reopen at the end of May; the 2026–27 calendar reopened schools on 29 May. April is an underrated Manali month: 6–20°C, apple blossom, snow still on Sissu and the Rohtang road, and lower prices than May. Many CBSE and ICSE schools in the city follow a similar summer break.
  • Dasara holidays (late September to October): state schools usually get around two to three weeks. October is one of Manali's clearest months, with cold nights and the Kullu Dussehra fair in the valley that starts on Vijayadashami. Snow is limited to the high passes.
  • Christmas and New Year: the best chance of snow in Manali town, but also the highest prices of the year. Book by October.
  • Long weekends with two days of leave: Kannada Rajyotsava (1 November), Republic Day and Ugadi can each stretch to a 4- or 5-night Manali trip if you take the earliest flight out and the latest flight back.

Cold, altitude and food: notes for travellers from Bengaluru

Dressing for real cold

  • Most Bengaluru wardrobes stop at a light jacket. For December to February you need thermal inners, a fleece, a padded waterproof jacket, gloves, a woollen cap and warm socks. Decathlon outlets in the city stock all of it, or you can rent heavy jackets in Manali.
  • Waterproof shoes with grip matter more than anything else on packed snow. Snow boots and suits can be hired at Solang.
  • For April to June and October, one warm layer plus a windproof jacket is enough; Rohtang and Chandratal are cold at any time of year.

Altitude

  • Bangalore sits at about 920 m, so Manali at 2,050 m is a modest jump and rarely troubles anyone. Rohtang (about 3,980 m) and Chandratal (about 4,250 m) are different: walk slowly, drink water, and do not sleep high on the first night in the mountains.
  • Anyone with heart, lung or blood-pressure conditions should check with their doctor before the high passes.

Food

  • South Indian food exists in Manali but is limited: a few Mall Road restaurants serve dosa and idli, rarely as good as at home. Hotels will cook curd rice or plain rice with dal on request. Some families carry ready-to-eat sambar and upma mixes for the Lahaul days.
  • Vegetarian and Jain: pure-veg restaurants are easy to find on Mall Road, and our hotels prepare Jain meals when booked in advance; it is written on the voucher. In Jispa and at Chandratal camps, meals are simple dal, rice, vegetables and roti.
  • Worth trying: siddu, Himachali dham, rajma-chawal at roadside dhabas, and local apple juice.

On the road

  • Hill roads average 30–40 km an hour; keep motion-sickness tablets handy after Mandi.
  • Mobile data drops at Solang, in Lahaul and at Chandratal. Keep the PDF vouchers offline.
  • Carry some cash: UPI works in town, but snow-gear shops and the Lahaul dhabas may want notes.

Manali tour from Bangalore: FAQs

How much does a Manali tour package from Bangalore cost?

Our Manali packages currently start at ₹12,000 per person for 3 nights. Most of our Manali packages fall between ₹21,999 and ₹42,999 per person. The final cost depends on the travel month, hotel category, number of travellers and whether flights from Bangalore are added. Open any package below to see exactly what is included, or ask us for a quote with flights.

Is there a direct flight from Bangalore to Manali?

No. Manali has no airport, and the nearest, Kullu–Bhuntar, has flights only from Delhi on small aircraft. As of October 2026 the usual route is a non-stop from Kempegowda to Chandigarh of about 3 hours 10 minutes, then a 7–8 hour drive. A Delhi connection to Kullu is quicker on the road but less reliable.

Which flight should we take from Bengaluru to Chandigarh?

The earliest one you can manage. Landing before about 9:30 am lets you drive to Manali in daylight. With a midday or evening arrival we plan a night in Mandi or Kullu and continue the next morning, which is safer and easier on children than driving hill roads in the dark.

Can we fly into Chandigarh and out of Kullu?

Yes. This open-jaw plan saves the long drive on the last day: you drive 1½ hours to Bhuntar, fly to Delhi and connect to Bengaluru. Kullu flights are cancelled in low cloud, so we keep a road plan to Chandigarh ready and suggest flexible connecting tickets.

Is there a train from Bangalore to Chandigarh?

Yes. The Karnataka Sampark Kranti runs from Yesvantpur to Chandigarh about twice a week, taking roughly 49 hours according to published timetables. With the drive to Manali added, it means more than two days each way, so it suits only travellers who want the rail journey itself.

When can people from Bangalore see snow in Manali?

Mid-December to February gives the best chance in town, at Solang and at Sissu. In March and April snow remains at Sissu and on the Rohtang road. From late May, once Rohtang opens, there is snow at the pass. Dasara and Rajyotsava trips in October and November usually see snow only on the high passes.

Is April a good month for Manali during Karnataka summer holidays?

Yes, and it is often overlooked. Days are 6–20°C, orchards are in blossom, snow still lies at Sissu and higher up, and prices are lower than in May. It suits families whose state-school break starts in April. Book about six weeks ahead because Chandigarh flights fill around Easter weekends.

What is Chandratal, and can we visit from Manali?

Chandratal is a high lake in Lahaul at about 4,250 m, reached through the Atal Tunnel and a rough track by 4x4. It is open roughly June to early October. We include a night in Jispa first to adjust to the altitude, then a camp near the lake. It is not suitable for infants or anyone with heart or breathing problems.

How many days do we need for Manali from Bangalore?

Five nights is the practical minimum, since the long flight and drive take most of the first day. Four nights works with the earliest flight and an open-jaw return via Kullu. Six or seven nights let you add Lahaul in summer or Bir and Dharamshala at any time except deep winter.

Will we get South Indian food in Manali?

A little. A few Mall Road restaurants serve dosa, idli and filter coffee, and hotels can make curd rice, plain rice and dal. Quality varies. Pure-veg North Indian food is easy everywhere, and Jain meals are arranged at our hotels with notice. Many families carry ready-to-eat mixes for the Lahaul days.

Is Manali worth it in the monsoon for Bengaluru travellers?

Only with flexible dates. July and August bring heavy rain and landslides to the Kullu valley and the Chandigarh highway. Lahaul beyond the Atal Tunnel stays dry, so a summer route to Jispa and Chandratal still works, but we add a spare day and avoid tight flight connections.

How do we book if your team is in Ahmedabad?

Entirely on WhatsApp or phone. We send a day-wise plan and quote, you pay online, and you receive hotel vouchers, cab details and the invoice as PDFs. During the trip your driver and our Manali partner are reachable, with 24x7 support from our team.
