For Delhi, Manali is the hill trip that fits into a weekend. You leave the city on a Thursday or Friday evening, sleep on the bus or let a driver handle the night, and by breakfast you are looking at the Beas river with snow on the peaks above. The town sits about 540 km north of Delhi at roughly 2,050 m, with Solang Valley a short drive up the road and the Atal Tunnel leading to Sissu in Lahaul, where snow lingers long after it has melted in Manali.

The trouble with most "Delhi to Manali" packages is that they sell a bus seat and a hotel and leave you to sort out everything else on arrival – the taxi to Solang, the snow-gear rental, the permit beyond the tunnel. This page lays out what a Manali trip from Delhi really costs with each mode of travel, how the Volvo, flight and road options compare, three day-wise plans built around Delhi departure times, a long-weekend planner for the coming months, a month-by-month guide and practical advice for travellers coming up from the plains. Every package below shows its live price, and every trip is private: your dates, your hotel class, your own cab and driver in Manali.

Manali package cost from Delhi (2026)

Our Himachal and Manali packages start at ₹12,000 per person, and 24 of them are live right now. Unlike flight-based destinations, the travel from Delhi is part of the package here, so the table states what each band includes. Figures are per person on twin sharing with breakfast and dinner at the hotel, and a private cab in Manali for sightseeing.

PlanStandard (3★)Deluxe (4★)Premium (5★ / boutique resort)
3 nights Manali, AC Volvo both ways from Delhi₹9,500 – 12,500₹14,000 – 18,500₹24,000+
4 nights Manali with Sissu day, AC Volvo both ways₹11,500 – 15,000₹17,000 – 22,000₹29,000+
5 nights Manali and Kasol, private cab from Delhi (4 sharing)₹18,000 – 24,000₹24,000 – 31,000₹40,000+
6 nights Shimla – Manali, private cab from Delhi (4 sharing)₹20,000 – 26,000₹28,000 – 36,000₹48,000+

If you would rather fly: Delhi–Kullu (Bhuntar) seats usually cost ₹9,000–20,000 per person return because there are few flights on small aircraft; Delhi–Chandigarh is cheaper at about ₹4,000–8,000 return, followed by a 7–8 hour drive. We deduct the Volvo from the package and add the airport transfers when you choose either route.

Paid locally in most packages: Solang ropeway and snow activities, snow suits and boots on rent, the Rohtang permit and local vehicle in the months the pass is open, paragliding, rafting near Kullu, lunches and tips. A cab from Delhi also attracts tolls, parking and the Himachal entry tax for the vehicle; we include these in the quote so the driver never asks you for cash at a barrier.

What moves the price: Christmas to New Year, Republic Day weekend and the May–June school break can add 25–40% to hotels and Volvo fares, and Sunday-night return buses are the first to fill. A Tuesday-to-Saturday trip in February or early March often costs a third less than the same hotels in the last week of December.

Delhi to Manali: Volvo, flight or road

Overnight Volvo (the most popular choice)

  • HRTC (Himachal Roadways) Volvo and Scania buses leave from ISBT Kashmere Gate in the evening, usually between 5 pm and 9 pm. They are reliable, have fixed fares and drop you at the Manali bus stand near Mall Road.
  • Private Volvo sleepers and semi-sleepers mostly board at Majnu ka Tilla, with a few pick-up points in central and south Delhi. Comfort varies a lot by operator; we book only ones we have used.
  • Journey time: about 12–14 hours, reaching Manali between 7 am and 10 am. Expect a dinner halt near Murthal or Karnal and a tea stop around Mandi before dawn.
  • Fare: roughly ₹1,400–2,800 per seat one way depending on the bus, the day and the season. Our Volvo packages include the seat, the pick-up at the Manali stand and an early check-in request.

Flights from IGI Airport

  • Delhi – Kullu (Bhuntar, KUU): Alliance Air flies an early-morning service of about 1 hour 20 minutes. Bhuntar is 50 km (about 1½ hours) from Manali. The aircraft are small, baggage limits are tight and flights are cancelled on cloudy days, so we always hold a road plan in reserve.
  • Delhi – Chandigarh (IXC): many flights a day of about an hour, then roughly 300 km to Manali by cab. With the new four-lane highway to Mandi the drive now takes 7–8 hours in good conditions.
  • Train option: the Kalka or Chandigarh Shatabdi from New Delhi reaches Chandigarh in about 3½ hours; a cab waits at the station. There is no railway line to Manali itself.

Leave Delhi by 5 am to clear the Singhu border and the Panipat stretch before traffic builds, and you reach Manali before dark. A Dzire or Ertiga suits two to four people, an Innova Crysta suits families with luggage, and a Tempo Traveller works for groups of eight to twelve. If you plan to drive your own car, see the snow-driving notes further down.

Best days to travel: a Thursday-night departure gets you a quieter Friday at Solang before the weekend crowd arrives. For the return, a Monday or Tuesday bus is easier to book and cheaper than Sunday night.

Three Manali itineraries planned around Delhi departures

3 nights – long weekend by Volvo

  • Thursday night: Volvo from Kashmere Gate or Majnu ka Tilla around 7 pm.
  • Friday: Arrive Manali by about 9 am; cab to the hotel, freshen up. Afternoon at Hadimba Devi temple and the cedar forest of Van Vihar, evening on Mall Road.
  • Saturday: Early start to Solang Valley and on through the Atal Tunnel to Sissu – the waterfall, the Chandra river and snowfields on the Lahaul side. Back to Manali by late afternoon.
  • Sunday: Old Manali lanes and riverside cafés, Vashisht hot springs and temple, Jogini waterfall walk for the fit.
  • Monday: Morning at Naggar Castle or rafting near Kullu (April–June); afternoon Volvo from Manali, reaching Delhi around 6 am on Tuesday.

5 nights – Manali and Kasol by private cab from Delhi

  • Day 1: Pick-up from your home in Delhi or Gurugram at 5 am; breakfast at Murthal; lunch near Bilaspur; reach Kasol in the Parvati valley by evening.
  • Day 2: Manikaran Sahib gurudwara and hot springs, Chalal village walk along the river; drive to Manali (about 3 hours) in the afternoon.
  • Day 3: Solang Valley – ropeway, snow play in winter, paragliding and zorbing in season.
  • Day 4: Atal Tunnel, Sissu and Koksar when the road is open; on snow-closure days, Kothi and Gulaba instead.
  • Day 5: Hadimba, Manu temple, Old Manali, shopping for Kullu shawls.
  • Day 6: Early departure; lunch at a highway dhaba; drop at home in Delhi NCR by late evening.

4 nights – fly to Bhuntar (couples and families with elders)

  • Day 1: Early flight from IGI to Kullu; 1½-hour cab to Manali; check in to a riverside resort and rest – a good way to avoid the overnight road for older parents.
  • Day 2: Hadimba, Vashisht and Old Manali at an easy pace; evening at a café by the Manalsu stream.
  • Day 3: Solang and Sissu with plenty of stops; snow boots arranged before you leave town.
  • Day 4: Naggar Castle and the Roerich art gallery, Kullu shawl weavers on the way back.
  • Day 5: Cab to Bhuntar for the return flight. If the morning flight is cancelled for weather, we switch you to a cab to Chandigarh and an evening flight to Delhi.

All three plans are private trips – your own cab and driver in Manali, your own dates, and no fixed timetable shared with strangers.

Long weekends from Delhi and how to use them

Most of our Delhi clients plan Manali around a long weekend plus one or two days of leave. These are the windows we see booked most often:

WindowWhy it worksBook by
Christmas, Friday 25 December 2026A natural three-day weekend at the start of snow season; add Thursday for a 3-night tripEarly November – buses and Solang-side hotels fill first
New Year weekPeak snow mood, peak prices; Mall Road is crowded on 31 DecemberOctober
Delhi school winter break (usually the first two weeks of January)Families with children; the best chance of snow at SolangLate November
Republic Day, Tuesday 26 January 2027Take Monday off for a four-day break from Saturday to TuesdayMid-December
Holi and Good Friday (March–April)Snow left at Sissu, mild days in Manali, lower rates4–5 weeks ahead
Delhi school summer vacation (mid-May to June)Escape from 45°C in Delhi; Rohtang usually openMarch

Volvo, cab or flight for a Delhi family of four? Four Volvo seats both ways cost about ₹12,000–20,000 and suit couples and friends who sleep easily on a bus. A private Innova from Delhi for six days costs more – roughly ₹30,000–40,000 including tolls and driver allowance – but gives door-to-door pick-up, stops on your schedule and a car you already know in Manali. Flights to Bhuntar save a day of travel but cost the most and can be cancelled. For families with children under eight or parents over 65, we usually suggest the cab or the flight.

Monsoon caution: the Independence Day long weekend falls in the monsoon, when landslides can block the highway near Mandi for hours. We do not recommend Manali from Delhi between mid-July and early September unless your dates are flexible.

Snow, the Atal Tunnel and Rohtang: month by month from Delhi

NovemberCold, dry; first snow at Solang in good yearsQuiet trips, lowest crowdsLow
DecemberSnow arrives on higher ground, usually by mid-monthChristmas and New YearHighest in the last week
  • Atal Tunnel: the 9 km tunnel keeps Lahaul reachable through the winter, but the approach road from Solang is closed for a day or more after heavy snowfall. After fresh snow, police often allow only 4x4 vehicles with chains beyond Solang. We keep one flexible day in winter plans for this reason.
  • Rohtang Pass: closed in winter and usually open from about late May to November. Each vehicle needs an online permit within a daily quota, booked in advance; the pass shuts one day a week. Our team applies for it as soon as your dates are firm.
  • Snow is weather, not a promise: Solang and Sissu are the most dependable spots from late December to February. If you are travelling from Delhi only for snow, avoid November and late March.

Food and practical tips for Delhi travellers

Food

North Indian food is easy everywhere in Manali – dal makhani, rajma-chawal, parathas and tandoori breads at almost every hotel and dhaba. Old Manali and Vashisht have cafés serving Israeli, Italian and Tibetan food, plus trout for those who eat fish. Try local Himachali dishes such as siddu (steamed wheat bread with a walnut or poppy filling) and the dham thali served at festivals. Pure-veg and Jain meals are arranged at our hotels on request and written on the voucher; outside the hotel, Jain choices are limited to a few Mall Road restaurants. At Solang and Sissu, food stalls offer Maggi, momos and tea, so carry snacks.

Practical tips

  • Clothing: Delhi winters do not prepare you for Solang. Pack thermals, a down or heavy jacket, woollen cap and gloves; rent waterproof snow suits and boots at Solang or Palchan rather than buying them.
  • Motion sickness: the road after Mandi winds along the Beas. Eat light at the Murthal halt and keep medicine handy for children.
  • Driving your own car: a hatchback or sedan is fine to Manali in all seasons, but do not take a two-wheel-drive car to Solang or the tunnel after snowfall. Use local 4x4 taxis or our cab, and start the return early – black ice forms on shaded bends in the afternoon.
  • Cash and network: UPI works in town, but snow-gear shops and some taxis at Solang prefer cash. Jio and Airtel work in Manali; signal drops in the Atal Tunnel area.
  • Altitude: Manali itself causes no problems, but Rohtang (about 3,980 m) can bring headaches – walk slowly and drink water.
  • Fog season: from mid-December to January, Delhi fog can delay early flights and overnight buses by a few hours. Do not book a tight onward connection on the day you return to Delhi.

Manali tour from Delhi: FAQs

How much does a Manali tour package from Delhi cost?

Our Manali packages currently start at ₹12,000 per person for 3 nights. Most of our Manali packages fall between ₹21,999 and ₹42,999 per person. The final cost depends on the travel month, hotel category, number of travellers and whether flights from {$from} are added. Open any package below to see exactly what is included, or ask us for a quote with flights.

How long does the Volvo from Delhi to Manali take?

About 12 to 14 hours. Most buses leave Delhi between 5 pm and 9 pm and reach Manali between 7 am and 10 am, with a dinner halt in Haryana and a tea stop near Mandi. In winter fog or after snowfall the journey can stretch by two or three hours, so avoid planning anything important for the arrival morning.

Where do Manali buses leave from in Delhi?

HRTC government Volvos depart from ISBT Kashmere Gate, which is easy to reach by Delhi Metro. Most private Volvo operators board at Majnu ka Tilla, close to the Vidhan Sabha metro station, and a few also pick up from central and south Delhi. Your ticket shows the exact boarding point and the reporting time.

Is there a flight from Delhi to Manali?

Manali has no airport. The nearest is Kullu (Bhuntar), about 50 km away, with an early-morning Alliance Air flight from Delhi of about 1 hour 20 minutes. Seats are limited and the flight is weather-dependent. The more reliable option is a flight from Delhi to Chandigarh followed by a 7 to 8 hour drive.

How far is Manali from Delhi by road?

About 540 km via Chandigarh, Bilaspur, Mandi and Kullu. A private cab takes 11 to 13 hours with meal stops. The highway is four-lane for most of the way to Mandi, then a two-lane road along the Beas river. Leave Delhi by 5 am to arrive before dark.

Can I do Manali from Delhi in a long weekend?

Yes. Take an overnight Volvo on Thursday, spend Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Manali with Solang, Sissu and Old Manali, and return by Monday afternoon bus to reach Delhi on Tuesday morning. With only a three-day weekend, two nights in Manali is possible but rushed.

When is the best time for snow in Manali for Delhi travellers?

Late December to February gives the most dependable snow at Solang Valley and Sissu, and Manali town sees a few snowfalls in a good winter. The Delhi school winter break and the Republic Day weekend fall in this window, so book buses and hotels four to six weeks ahead.

Is the Atal Tunnel open in winter?

The tunnel itself is open year-round, but the road to it from Solang can close for a day or two after heavy snowfall, and police may allow only 4x4 vehicles with chains. We build one flexible day into winter plans so the Sissu visit can move if the road is shut.

Can I drive my own car from Delhi to Manali?

Yes, the road to Manali is good in all seasons and many Delhi families drive. Pay the Himachal entry tax at the border and use FASTag for tolls. In snow months, park your car in Manali and take a local 4x4 or our cab to Solang and the tunnel, because two-wheel-drive cars skid on packed snow.

What does a Delhi to Manali Volvo ticket cost?

Roughly ₹1,400 to 2,800 per seat one way, depending on HRTC or private operator, sleeper or seater, and the date. Friday departures from Delhi and Sunday returns from Manali cost the most and sell out first in December, January and May. Our Volvo packages include both tickets.

Can I add Kasol or Shimla to a Manali trip from Delhi?

Yes. Kasol and Manikaran in the Parvati valley add one night and fit naturally on the drive up. Shimla adds two nights and works best on a cab trip, going up via Shimla and returning direct. Dharamshala and Dalhousie suit a longer 7 or 8 night circuit.

How do I book if your office is in Ahmedabad?

Everything is done on WhatsApp or phone. Our team in Ahmedabad shares a day-wise plan and quote, you confirm with an online payment, and you receive hotel vouchers, bus tickets and the invoice as PDFs. During the trip the driver and our Manali partner are on call, with 24x7 backup from us.
