Good forFamilies, honeymooners, friends, Christmas and New Year breaks

For a Bengali family, Goa is the other end of the country and a completely different sea. Digha, Mandarmani and Puri are a car ride away, but they face the Bay of Bengal, with brown surf and strong currents. Goa faces west: from November the water is calm and clear, the sun sets into the sea, and the beaches are lined with shacks rather than hotels on the sand. Add the churches of Old Goa, Portuguese-era villages and a fish-curry-and-rice culture that every Bengali recognises at once, and it is easy to see why Goa is a favourite for Kolkata honeymoons, Christmas breaks and the Puja vacation.

Distance is the first thing to plan around. As of November 2026 there is one daily non-stop flight from Kolkata to Goa, and the only direct train takes close to two days, so we rarely suggest fewer than five nights. This page covers what a Goa package costs with Kolkata airfares, how the CCU flight and the Amaravati Express shape the first day, three day-wise itineraries, Goa on the Bengali festival calendar, a month-by-month table and food notes for fish lovers and vegetarians alike. There is no Vibrant Holidays office in Kolkata: your trip is planned by our team in Ahmedabad and booked on WhatsApp or phone, and the Goa packages listed below carry live prices.

Goa tour cost from Kolkata: what to budget in 2026

We have 24 Goa packages on sale right now, starting at ₹5,999 per person. The bands below are indicative, per person on twin sharing, and cover land arrangements only: hotels with breakfast, airport or station transfers and a private AC car and driver for sightseeing days. They exclude the flight or train from Kolkata.

Airfare from Kolkata: as of November 2026, a return economy ticket on the non-stop usually costs about ₹16,000 – 24,000 per person when booked a month or more ahead. Christmas, New Year and the Puja weeks can push it to about ₹28,000 – 40,000. One-stop routings via Mumbai, Bengaluru or Hyderabad are sometimes cheaper, but take six to ten hours, so for a family of four the saving has to be weighed against a lost day.

Not included on the ground: water sports, the Dudhsagar jeep, boat trips, casino entry, scooter hire, monument fees and meals other than breakfast.

Because the airfare is the largest single cost from Kolkata, the land package matters less than the flight date. Moving a trip by two or three days around Christmas or the end of the Puja holidays often saves more than dropping a hotel category.

Kolkata to Goa: the CCU non-stop, connections and the Amaravati Express

Flights from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU)

As of November 2026, IndiGo runs one daily non-stop from Kolkata to Dabolim (GOI), leaving in the late morning and landing in the early afternoon after about 2 hours 35 minutes to 2 hours 50 minutes. We did not find a regular non-stop from Kolkata to Manohar International Airport at Mopa (GOX); Mopa usually means a connection. Other flights connect through Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad or Delhi, often with long waits. Schedules change each season, so we confirm what is flying on your dates.

The two Goa airports are roughly 65–75 km apart, about 1½ to 2 hours by road. Because the non-stop lands at Dabolim, we usually put guests in the north first and finish the trip in South Goa, so the last-day transfer to the airport is short.

By train: the Amaravati Express

The Amaravati Express (18047) is the only direct train between West Bengal and Goa. As of November 2026 it starts from Shalimar on four nights a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday), late at night, and runs through Kharagpur, Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntakal, Hosapete and Hubballi before crossing the Braganza ghat past Dudhsagar falls. It reaches Madgaon on the afternoon of the third day and Vasco about two hours later – roughly 39 hours to Madgaon. Check the timings when booking, as they change.

Two nights on a train is a lot for a holiday, but it has one real advantage: the train stops at Hosapete early in the morning, the station for Hampi. Some travellers get off there, spend a day or two among the Vijayanagara ruins and drive about 7 to 8 hours to Goa, then fly home.

By road

Goa is about 2,000 km from Kolkata by road. It is not a practical drive for a holiday.

Three Goa itineraries for travellers from Kolkata

5 nights / 6 days – first Goa trip (couples and young families)

  • Day 1: Late-morning non-stop from Kolkata to Dabolim. Drive about 1¼ hours to Candolim or Calangute, and spend the evening on the beach.
  • Day 2: Fort Aguada and Sinquerim, water sports at Calangute in the morning, and Chapora fort for sunset.
  • Day 3: Anjuna and Vagator, a Wednesday flea market or Saturday night market depending on the day, and an evening in Assagao.
  • Day 4: Move south via Old Goa's churches and Panaji's Fontainhas; Mandovi cruise at sunset, then on to a Benaulim or Varca resort.
  • Day 5: Palolem and Cabo de Rama, or a lazy beach day.
  • Day 6: A morning swim, then 30–40 minutes to Dabolim for the flight to Kolkata.

6 nights / 7 days – Christmas and New Year with the family

  • Day 1: Fly to Dabolim; check in at a South Goa resort for the first three nights so the children settle quickly.
  • Day 2: Dudhsagar by forest jeep from Collem, with a spice plantation lunch on the way back.
  • Day 3: Christmas Eve: carols in Margao and midnight mass at a village church, or a gala dinner at the resort.
  • Day 4: Move to Panaji or Dona Paula via Chandor's Braganza house; evening on the Mandovi.
  • Day 5: Divar island by ferry and the Old Goa churches; casino evening for adults over 21 if you wish.
  • Day 6: Miramar and Dona Paula, a slow lunch and some shopping for cashews, bebinca and feni.
  • Day 7: 35–45 minutes to Dabolim and fly home.

7 nights / 8 days – Hampi and Goa (train out, flight back)

  • Days 1–2: Board the Amaravati Express at Shalimar late at night; one full day on the train through Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
  • Day 3: Early arrival at Hosapete; hotel in Hampi. Virupaksha temple and Hemakuta hill at sunset.
  • Day 4: Vittala temple and its stone chariot, the Royal Enclosure and a coracle ride on the Tungabhadra.
  • Day 5: Drive about 7 to 8 hours to Goa via Hubballi; check in in South Goa.
  • Days 6–7: Beach days in the south, Old Goa and Panaji.
  • Day 8: Daily non-stop from Dabolim to Kolkata.

Every plan is private: your own car and driver, your own dates and hotels you approve. Friends and joint families travel as a private group on their own dates, never in a mixed group.

Durga Puja, Christmas and the Bengali holiday calendar

Bengali travellers book Goa around three windows, and each one behaves differently.

  • Puja holidays: many Bengali families stay in Kolkata for the four days of Puja and travel from Dashami onward, using the long school and office break that follows. In 2027, Vijaya Dashami falls on 10 October. Early October in Goa is the tail of the monsoon – green, humid, with occasional showers – and beach activities restart in the first weeks of the month. Hotels are still at shoulder rates, so a Puja trip is good value if you want greenery and quiet rather than a crowded beach. When Kali Puja and Diwali fall in early November, Goa is fully in season.
  • Christmas and New Year: Kolkata has Park Street, but many families want to see Christmas the Goan way – lit village churches, midnight mass, star lanterns and plum-cake stalls in Panaji. It is Goa's busiest fortnight: hotel rates go up two to three times and the single daily non-stop fills early. Book by September.
  • Summer vacation: West Bengal schools break in May. Goa is hot and humid then but resorts are good value; the sea becomes rough from late May.

Honeymoons: the Bengali wedding season runs mostly from late November to February and again in late spring, which lines up neatly with Goa's dry season. For newly married couples we suggest a quiet North Goa boutique hotel for two nights, then a South Goa beachfront resort for three.

Fish thalis, niramish meals and practical tips for Bengali travellers

For fish lovers

  • Goan fish curry rice is Goa's everyday meal: a sour-spicy coconut curry with kokum or tamarind, red rice and a fried fish on the side. Expect coconut oil rather than mustard oil, and kingfish, pomfret, mackerel (bangda) and prawns rather than rui, ilish or bhetki.
  • Rava-fried fish – a semolina-crusted slice of kingfish or pomfret – is the dish many Bengali travellers go back for. Prawn balchão and crab xec xec are richer and spicier.
  • Fish thali houses in Panaji, Margao and Mapusa serve a full plate at lunch for far less than the beach shacks.
  • Monsoon months bring a fishing ban on the coast, so fresh catch is limited and pricier from June to July.

Vegetarian, Jain and niramish needs

  • Many Kolkata Marwari and Jain families travel to Goa. Pure-veg restaurants are easy to find in Calangute, Panaji and Margao, and resorts handle Jain meals with notice. We write it on the hotel voucher.
  • For elders who keep niramish days, ask for a plain dal, rice and vegetable plate without onion or garlic; resort kitchens prepare it on request.
  • Goan Hindu vegetarian cooking – khatkhatem, mushroom xacuti, sol kadhi – is worth trying even for fish eaters.

Practical tips

  • The Arabian Sea in winter is calmer than Digha or Puri, but swim only where lifeguards and green flags are posted, never after dark.
  • December evenings in Goa are around 20°C – a light shawl is enough. There is no need for Kolkata winter woollens.
  • UPI works widely; keep cash for ferries and small stalls.
  • Book the return flight before anything else on peak dates, since there is only one non-stop.

Goa tour from Kolkata: FAQs

How much does a Goa tour package from Kolkata cost?

Our Goa packages currently start at ₹5,999 per person for 2 nights. Most of our Goa packages fall between ₹11,999 and ₹24,999 per person. The final cost depends on the travel month, hotel category, number of travellers and whether flights from Kolkata are added. Open any package below to see exactly what is included, or ask us for a quote with flights.

Is there a direct flight from Kolkata to Goa?

Yes. As of November 2026, IndiGo flies one non-stop a day from Kolkata to Dabolim, leaving in the late morning and taking about 2 hours 35 to 50 minutes. Other options connect via Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad or Delhi. We confirm the operating schedule for your dates before booking.

Can I fly from Kolkata to Mopa airport?

As of November 2026 we did not find a regular non-stop from Kolkata to Mopa, so it usually needs a connection. Since the daily non-stop lands at Dabolim, we usually fly Kolkata guests into Dabolim, place the first nights in North Goa and the last nights in South Goa, close to the airport.

How much is the Kolkata to Goa airfare?

As of November 2026, a return economy ticket on the non-stop usually costs about ₹16,000 to 24,000 per person when booked a month or more ahead. Around Christmas, New Year and the Puja weeks it can reach about ₹28,000 to 40,000. We quote flights and hotels together so the dates match.

Which train goes from Kolkata to Goa?

The Amaravati Express is the only direct train. As of November 2026 it leaves Shalimar four nights a week and reaches Madgaon on the afternoon of the third day, about 39 hours, passing Dudhsagar falls near the end. It also stops at Hosapete, which makes a Hampi stop easy. Check timings when booking.

How many days should we plan for Goa from Kolkata?

Five nights or more. The flight is close to three hours each way, and with airport time both travel days are half lost. Five nights covers North and South Goa with Old Goa; six or seven nights adds Dudhsagar, a free day or Hampi.

Is Goa a good choice during the Puja holidays?

Yes, if you like green and quiet. In early and mid-October the monsoon is ending, hotels are at shoulder rates and the countryside is lush, though showers are possible and some beach shacks may still be setting up. Flights from Kolkata are expensive in Puja week, so book early.

Is Goa good for Christmas and New Year from Kolkata?

It is the most festive time in Goa, with lit churches, midnight masses and New Year events, but also the most expensive. Hotel rates run two to three times normal and the daily non-stop fills fast. Book flights and the hotel by September for the best choice.

Will Bengali travellers like the fish in Goa?

Most do. Goan fish curry rice, made with coconut and kokum, and rava-fried kingfish or pomfret are favourites with our Bengali guests. You will not find ilish or mustard-oil cooking, but prawns, crabs and mackerel are everywhere. Thali houses in Panaji and Margao offer good value at lunch.

Can we get vegetarian or Jain food in Goa?

Yes. Calangute, Panaji and Margao have pure-veg restaurants, and resorts across Goa prepare Jain or no-onion-garlic meals with notice. We write the requirement on your hotel voucher and share a list of vegetarian places near your hotel. Beach shacks share kitchens with seafood, so strict vegetarians should avoid them.

Is Goa better than Puri or Digha for a beach holiday?

They are very different. Puri and Digha are close and easy for a weekend. Goa needs a flight but gives calmer, clearer water from November to March, sunsets over the sea, Portuguese-era churches and a much wider choice of resorts and food. For five nights or more, Goa feels like a proper holiday.

Do you have an office in Kolkata?

No. Our team is in Ahmedabad and plans Goa trips for Kolkata travellers on WhatsApp and phone. You receive a written quote, day-wise itinerary, vouchers and invoice as PDFs, can pay by bank transfer or UPI, and can reach us at any hour during the trip.
