Kashmir Tour Packages from Kolkata
The Puja holidays, the chinars turning red and a houseboat on Dal Lake – private Kashmir trips from Kolkata by one-stop flight or the old train route to Jammu, now joined to the valley by rail.
For generations of Bengali families, "Kashmir in the Puja holidays" has meant something specific: the long autumn break, a train from Howrah, and the valley at its most colourful. That trip is easier now than it has been for years. The rail line through the Pir Panjal is complete, so a Vande Bharat carries you from Jammu or Katra into Srinagar, and one-stop flights from Dum Dum reach the valley the same day. What has not come back, as of October 2026, is a non-stop flight; seasonal direct services have run in earlier years but none is on sale for the coming winter.
This page is for families and couples from Howrah, Salt Lake, New Town and the rest of the city, and from towns across Bengal that travel through the city. It covers what the trip costs, the flight connections and the three trains to Jammu, three itineraries including one built for the Puja break, how the Bengal school calendar fits the Kashmir seasons, and what fish and rice lovers will actually eat in the valley. Vibrant Holidays is based in Ahmedabad and plans these trips remotely on WhatsApp and phone; we have no office in Bengal. Every trip is private, with your own car and Kashmiri driver.

Kashmir package prices for Kolkata travellers (2026)
At the moment we have 24 Kashmir packages on sale, starting at ₹19,500 per person. What you pay on the ground does not depend on your departure city, so these ranges match the rest of our Kashmir pages. Prices are per person, two to a room, and include hotels and a houseboat night with breakfast and dinner, a private car and driver throughout, a shikara ride and taxes. Air or rail tickets are separate.
| Trip | Standard | Deluxe | Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 nights – houseboat, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg day | ₹16,500 – 22,000 | ₹23,500 – 31,500 | ₹38,500 – 55,000 |
| 7 nights – Puja-break autumn plan with Doodhpathri and Yusmarg | ₹22,500 – 29,500 | ₹31,500 – 41,500 | ₹50,500 – 73,000 |
| 8 nights – Kashmir plus a night at Amritsar on the way home | ₹25,000 – 32,500 | ₹34,500 – 45,000 | ₹54,000 – 78,000 |
| 9 nights – train to Jammu, Katra darshan, Vande Bharat to Srinagar, fly home | ₹27,500 – 35,500 | ₹38,000 – 49,500 | ₹60,000 – 86,000 |
Flights from Kolkata: a return CCU–Srinagar ticket with one change typically costs ₹18,000 to ₹32,000 per person when booked about six weeks ahead. In the Puja weeks, mid-May to June and the Christmas week, expect ₹36,000 and above. Early-morning connections via Amritsar or Delhi are often the quickest; overnight ones are usually the cheapest.
By train: a 3A berth to Jammu costs a fraction of the airfare but takes one and a half to two days each way, which is why most families ride the train out and fly back.
Not included unless you ask: gondola tickets at Gulmarg, the local taxis inside Pahalgam, pony rides, winter gear hire, lunches and tips. You get approximate rates for each with the quote.
Getting there: flights from Dum Dum and the trains to Jammu
Flying from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (CCU)
- Non-stop: none listed as of October 2026. IndiGo and others have operated a direct Kolkata–Srinagar flight in some past seasons, roughly three hours long. If one returns for summer 2027 we will tell you, but we do not plan around it until tickets are on sale.
- Via Amritsar: IndiGo's Kolkata–Amritsar leg plus the short hop to Srinagar gives one of the fastest totals, about five hours with a good connection. It also opens the option of a Golden Temple night on the way home.
- Via Delhi: the most frequent choice, with many onward flights and easy rebooking. Watch for fog delays from late December to January.
- Via Bengaluru, Mumbai or Hyderabad: useful when northern routes are full, but longer.
- Timing: early-morning departures from Dum Dum (between 3 and 6 am) put you in Srinagar by late morning or noon. Book both legs on one ticket so the airline protects the connection.
- Leaving Srinagar: two rounds of security, so reach the airport about three hours before departure.
Three trains to Jammu Tawi
| Train | From | Runs | About |
|---|---|---|---|
| Himgiri Express | Howrah, late night | Three days a week | 37 hours |
| Jammu Tawi Express (13151) | Kolkata station, Chitpur, late morning | Daily | 45 hours |
| Humsafar Express (22317) | Sealdah, early afternoon | Weekly | 34 hours |
From Jammu Tawi, the Vande Bharat to Srinagar takes about 4 hours 50 minutes via Katra, Reasi and Banihal, and does not run on Tuesdays. That means the old Bengali route by rail to Jammu now continues into the valley without a road journey over the Banihal pass. Running days and timings have changed more than once in 2026, so we confirm on IRCTC when you fix dates. The Himgiri usually gets you in by early afternoon, which leaves time for a rest night in Jammu or Katra before the Vande Bharat.

Pujo, summer and winter: Bengal holidays mapped to Kashmir
- Puja holidays (October): in 2026, West Bengal state-board schools closed from 15 October to 12 November, from Chaturthi to after Bhai Phonta, while most Kolkata private schools took about ten days, from 16 to 26 October. Kashmir in the second half of October is dry and crisp, about 15–20°C by day and close to freezing at night, with the chinar leaves turning gold and red. It is the most photogenic time of year. Puja dates move with the Bengali calendar, so we start planning as soon as the dates are announced, and book flights three months ahead.
- Summer (May to early June): state schools had only a short summer break in 2026, while ICSE and CBSE schools in the city usually close from mid-May to early June. Srinagar is 20–28°C while the humid heat at home peaks. The valley is busiest in late May, so the first half of the month is better value.
- Christmas and New Year: a week's break for most private schools. Gulmarg usually has snow by then; Pahalgam may or may not.
- January for snow: the coldest, whitest month. Good for couples and older children who can handle minus 5°C nights.
- Retired travellers: September is often the best choice: dry, mild and before the Puja rush.

| May | Warm, all valleys open | Private-school summer holidays | Peak |
| June | Long, mild days | Before monsoon reaches Bengal | High |
| July | Showers; Amarnath Yatra | Off-peak couples | Medium |
| August | Lush meadows | Independence Day leave | Medium |
| September | Dry, sunny, harvest | Retired travellers before the Puja rush | Medium |

| November | Cold, clear, very few visitors | Rest of the state-school Puja break | Low |
| December | Snow arrives | Christmas week | High after 20 December |
Fish, rice and practical tips for Bengali families
Food: closer to home than you expect
Two things will feel familiar. Kashmiris eat rice at almost every meal, and traditional Kashmiri cooking, both Pandit and Muslim, uses mustard oil. Fish lovers can order trout, farmed in the cold streams around Pahalgam and Kokernag, grilled or in a light curry, and in Srinagar some restaurants cook local lake fish with radish or lotus stem. It is not ilish or rui, and there is no posto or kasundi, but a fish-and-rice lunch is easy to find. Mutton eaters will enjoy the Wazwan dishes: rogan josh, rista, gushtaba and tabak maaz, all halal.
For vegetarian or niramish meals, Kashmiri haak, nadru (lotus stem), dum aloo and rajma with rice are good every day, and hotels will make plain dal and a light vegetable dish on request. Jain and no onion–garlic food is arranged with notice and written into your vouchers. Bengalis who like a sweet after dinner should know that Kashmiri desserts are limited; phirni is the safe choice. Carry a jar of kasundi or aam-tel achar, some chanachur or muri for the drives, and your own tea leaves if you are particular about your morning cha.
Practical points
- Warm clothes: a Kolkata winter shawl is not enough. For October, carry a jacket and a warm layer for nights near freezing; for December to February, thermals, a down jacket, gloves, a woollen cap and waterproof shoes. Gear can be hired at Gulmarg.
- On the train: 34 to 45 hours is long. Carry food for the first day, a power bank and warm layers, because Jammu mornings are cold from November.
- Mobile phones: prepaid SIMs from West Bengal do not work in Jammu and Kashmir; postpaid ones do. Carry at least one postpaid number.
- Kheer Bhawani and Shankaracharya: both are calm for devout families; Shankaracharya involves around 240 steps.
- Money: UPI is accepted widely in Srinagar; cash is needed for ponies and local taxis.
- On tour: we check weather, roads and advisories daily and reroute if needed; 24x7 support on WhatsApp.

How much does a Kashmir tour package from Kolkata cost?
Our Kashmir packages currently start at ₹19,500 per person for 4 nights. Most of our Kashmir packages fall between ₹28,000 and ₹49,900 per person. The final cost depends on the travel month, hotel category, number of travellers and whether flights from Kolkata are added. Open any package below to see exactly what is included, or ask us for a quote with flights.
Is there a direct flight from Kolkata to Srinagar?
Not as of October 2026. Direct Kolkata–Srinagar flights have run in some past seasons, but none is currently on sale. One-stop routes via Amritsar or Delhi take about five to nine hours. If a seasonal non-stop returns for summer, we will include it in your options.
What is the airfare to Srinagar with one stop?
A return ticket usually costs ₹18,000 to ₹32,000 per person booked around six weeks ahead. In the Puja weeks, May–June and Christmas, it can go past ₹36,000. Dawn connections are often the fastest; overnight ones are usually the cheapest. We quote the flight separately from the land package so you can compare.
Which train goes from Kolkata to Jammu?
Three main options: the Himgiri Express from Howrah, three days a week in about 37 hours; the daily Jammu Tawi Express from Kolkata station at Chitpur in about 45 hours; and the weekly Humsafar from Sealdah in about 34 hours. Running days change, so we confirm on IRCTC.
Can I now reach Srinagar by train?
Yes. From Jammu Tawi, the Vande Bharat runs to Srinagar via Katra and Banihal in under five hours, every day except Tuesday. From Katra it takes about three hours. So you can go all the way by rail, usually with a night in Katra for Vaishno Devi.
Is the Puja vacation a good time to visit Kashmir?
It is one of the best. Mid to late October brings dry, clear weather, chinar trees turning red and gold, and comfortable days. Nights drop close to zero, so pack warm. Flights in the Puja weeks fill early; book about three months ahead.
How many days do we need for Kashmir?
Six or seven nights by air works well, covering Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg and one quieter meadow such as Doodhpathri. If you take the train one way, allow nine nights, which also gives time for Vaishno Devi at Katra. Shorter trips are possible but feel rushed because of the connection.
Will we get fish in Kashmir?
Yes, but different fish. Trout from the cold streams near Pahalgam and Kokernag is widely served, and some Srinagar restaurants cook local lake fish. Kashmiri cooking uses mustard oil and rice is the staple, so a fish-and-rice meal will feel quite familiar to Bengali travellers.
Can we combine Kashmir with Amritsar?
Yes. Srinagar–Amritsar is a short flight, and IndiGo flies Amritsar to Kolkata, so a night at the Golden Temple and the Wagah border ceremony fit naturally at the end of the trip. Add one or two nights to your Kashmir plan.
Is Kashmir suitable for retired couples?
Yes, at a gentle pace. We avoid very early starts after arrival, choose hotels with lifts or ground-floor rooms, and suggest September or early October, when the weather is mild. The Gulmarg gondola goes to high altitude, so check with a doctor if you have heart or breathing concerns.
Do West Bengal prepaid SIMs work in Kashmir?
No. Prepaid mobile connections from outside Jammu and Kashmir do not work there. Postpaid connections from the main operators work normally. Make sure at least one person in your group has a postpaid number so the driver and our team can reach you.
Do you have an office in Kolkata?
No. Vibrant Holidays works from Ahmedabad and plans trips from Bengal remotely. You deal with one planner on WhatsApp or phone from the first quote to your return, get the itinerary, vouchers and invoice as PDFs, and have 24x7 support throughout your Kashmir holiday.
