Kashmir Tour Packages from Pune
Lohegaon to Srinagar with one change of plane, or the daily Jhelum Express from Pune Junction to Jammu – private Kashmir holidays timed around Pune school calendars and Ganeshotsav.
Pune sits roughly 1,800 km from Srinagar as the crow flies, and that distance shapes every Kashmir plan made here. There is no dependable daily non-stop from Pune airport to the valley, so most families fly with one change, usually at Delhi, and reach Srinagar by afternoon. The other route is unusual and worth knowing: the Jhelum Express leaves Pune Junction every evening for Jammu Tawi, and since May 2026 a Vande Bharat runs from Jammu right into Srinagar. That makes a full rail journey from Pune to the valley possible with one change.
This guide is for travellers from Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and the Hinjewadi–Kharadi IT belt. It sets out realistic package costs, the flight and rail choices with honest journey times, three itineraries matched to Pune departure patterns, a planner built around Maharashtra school holidays and Pune's festival season, a month-by-month table, and practical food and packing advice. Vibrant Holidays is based in Ahmedabad; we plan Pune trips remotely and you book with us on WhatsApp or phone. There is no Pune office. Every trip is private, with your own car and driver in Kashmir.

What a Kashmir trip from Pune costs (2026)
We currently have 24 Kashmir packages live, with prices from ₹19,500 per person. The bands below assume two adults sharing a room and cover hotels and houseboat with breakfast and dinner, a private vehicle with driver for every transfer and sightseeing day, one shikara hour on Dal Lake and taxes. Air or rail fares from Pune are not included.
| Plan | Standard | Deluxe | Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 nights – houseboat, Srinagar, Gulmarg day, Pahalgam | ₹16,000 – 21,000 | ₹23,000 – 30,500 | ₹37,000 – 53,000 |
| 6 nights – adds a night in Gulmarg and a Sonamarg day | ₹19,500 – 25,500 | ₹27,500 – 36,000 | ₹44,000 – 63,000 |
| 7 nights – adds Doodhpathri and a slower Pahalgam stay | ₹22,500 – 29,000 | ₹31,000 – 40,500 | ₹49,000 – 70,000 |
| 8 nights – Jammu, Katra darshan, then the valley by Vande Bharat | ₹25,000 – 32,500 | ₹34,500 – 45,000 | ₹54,000 – 78,000 |
Airfare from Pune: because almost every itinerary has a connection, a return Pune–Srinagar ticket usually lands between ₹18,000 and ₹30,000 per person when bought about a month ahead. During the May–June holidays and the Christmas fortnight it can rise beyond ₹35,000. Flying Mumbai–Srinagar non-stop is sometimes cheaper; for families living in Wakad or Baner, the drive to Mumbai airport takes 3–4 hours, so we compare both before you decide.
By rail: a 3AC berth on the Jhelum Express from Pune to Jammu Tawi is roughly ₹2,800–3,800 per person, and the Jammu–Srinagar Vande Bharat chair car adds about ₹1,500–2,500. A family of four can save a large sum against peak flights, at the cost of two nights on the train.
Extras you pay in Kashmir unless added to the quote: the Gulmarg cable car, Pahalgam union taxis for Aru, Betaab and Chandanwari, ponies, snow boots and coats in winter, and entry tickets for the Mughal gardens. We give an estimate for each one in writing.
Pune to Srinagar: flights, the Jhelum Express and the new rail line
Flying from Pune airport (PNQ)
- No regular non-stop: as of late October 2026, schedule data shows no reliable daily non-stop between Pune and Srinagar. IndiGo occasionally sells a same-aircraft service of about 3½–4 hours with a stop on the way; we check whether it runs on your dates.
- One-stop connections: IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express, Akasa and SpiceJet connect through Delhi, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Hyderabad or Bengaluru. Total journey time is usually 5½–8 hours. A Delhi connection gives the most choice; an Ahmedabad or Amritsar change can be shorter when the timings line up.
- Leaving Pune: Lohegaon airport sits on the north-east edge of the city. From Hinjewadi or Kothrud, allow at least 75–90 minutes in morning traffic. The first wave of departures before 7 am gets you into Srinagar by early afternoon.
- Flying home: Srinagar airport has a screening point at the outer gate and another inside, so we leave you there 2½–3 hours before take-off. Evening arrivals back into Pune are common on one-stop routes.
The rail route from Pune Junction
| Leg | Train | About |
|---|---|---|
| Pune Junction to Jammu Tawi | Jhelum Express (11077), daily, evening departure via Manmad, Bhopal, Agra and New Delhi | 40 hours |
| Jammu Tawi to Srinagar | Vande Bharat, six days a week (not Tuesdays), stopping at Katra, Reasi and Banihal | 4 hours 50 minutes |
| Katra to Srinagar | Vande Bharat services via the Chenab and Anji Khad bridges | 3 hours |
The Jhelum Express runs every day, which makes it the easiest long-distance train for Pune families to plan around. Its arrival in Jammu falls on the morning of the third day, which lines up with the early-afternoon Vande Bharat into the valley or a road transfer to Katra. Timetables on the Jammu–Srinagar line have changed more than once since it opened, so we confirm running days on IRCTC before booking. Most families take the train one way and fly back.
Distances once you land
From Srinagar, Gulmarg is about 50 km (1½ hours), Sonamarg about 80 km (2½ hours), Pahalgam about 95 km (2½–3 hours) and Doodhpathri about 42 km. Local points inside Pahalgam are reached by union taxi rather than your own car.

Pune school holidays, Ganeshotsav and the right Kashmir window
Most Pune schools follow the Maharashtra calendar, with the long break from early May to the middle of June. CBSE and ICSE schools in Aundh, Viman Nagar and Hadapsar often start their summer break in late April, which opens a useful extra fortnight.
- Late April: if your child's school closes early, this is the best Kashmir window of the year. The tulip garden usually winds down by mid-April, but the valley is fresh green, hotels are a notch cheaper than May and Gulmarg still has snow at the upper cable-car station.
- May to mid-June: peak months from Pune and every other Indian city. Confirm flights, Gulmarg cable-car tickets and houseboats eight to ten weeks ahead.
- Ganeshotsav (late August to September): many Pune families stay home for the ten days and travel just after Anant Chaturdashi. Late September in Kashmir is clear, dry and cool, with apples ready in the orchards around Shopian and Sopore.
- Diwali break: in 2026 Lakshmi Pujan falls on 8 November. Mid-November is cold in Kashmir but quiet, and rates after Bhaubeej are among the lowest of the year.
- IT-sector leave: many Hinjewadi and Kharadi employees take long leave around Christmas. Late December brings the first reliable snow at Gulmarg, though flights from Pune are expensive that week.
- Pune summer heat: April and May in Pune touch 38–40°C; Srinagar at the same time sits in the low to mid-20s, which is often the main reason families book.

| April | Tulips early in the month, green valleys | have CBSE or ICSE holidays starting early | Medium-high |
| May | All valleys open, 15–25°C | travel in the Maharashtra summer break | Peak |
| June | Warm, long days; Zojila opens towards Ladakh | want to escape the start of the Pune monsoon | High |

Food, packing and practical tips for Pune families
Eating well away from Pune
Most Pune families travel vegetarian or mostly vegetarian, and Kashmir handles that better than people expect. Hotels in Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam run North Indian veg menus every evening, and there are long-standing pure-veg restaurants close to Dal Gate. Katra, if you include it, is completely vegetarian. What you will miss is home food: no poha, misal, thalipeeth or a proper Puneri thali. Carry bhadang, chivda, ladoos and methi thepla for the drives, and instant upma or poha packets that a hotel kitchen can prepare with hot water. For Ekadashi or Sankashti fasts, sabudana and rajgira are hard to find, so bring your own and we will brief the kitchen. Jain food and no onion–garlic cooking are arranged in advance and written on your voucher. Kashmiri dishes worth trying: nadru yakhni, dum aloo, haak saag and noon chai with a fresh girda bread.
Practical points
- Layers: even in May, evenings in Pahalgam drop to around 8–10°C. A fleece and a light down jacket cover summer; winter needs thermals, waterproof boots and gloves.
- SIM cards: prepaid numbers issued in Maharashtra stop working in Jammu and Kashmir. Make sure one adult carries a postpaid connection.
- On the Jhelum Express: book lower berths for parents early, carry two days of dry snacks and a power bank; pantry food is basic.
- Altitude: the top cable-car station at Gulmarg is close to 4,000 m. Grandparents with heart or breathing conditions should stop at the first stage.
- Payments: UPI works in Srinagar; carry cash for ponies, union taxis and roadside stalls.
- Daily checks: we follow road, weather and security updates each morning and adjust the plan when needed; 24x7 support is a WhatsApp message away.

How much does a Kashmir tour package from Pune cost?
Our Kashmir packages currently start at ₹19,500 per person for 4 nights. Most of our Kashmir packages fall between ₹28,000 and ₹49,900 per person. The final cost depends on the travel month, hotel category, number of travellers and whether flights from {$from} are added. Open any package below to see exactly what is included, or ask us for a quote with flights.
Is there a direct flight from Pune to Srinagar?
Not on a reliable daily basis, as of October 2026. Most travellers fly with one change at Delhi, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh or Amritsar, and the full journey takes about 5½ to 8 hours. IndiGo sometimes sells a same-aircraft service with a stop. We check what runs on your dates and also compare a Mumbai non-stop.
What is the return airfare from Pune to Srinagar?
Booked about a month ahead, a return ticket from Pune usually costs ₹18,000 to ₹30,000 per person on one-stop routes. In May, early June and the Christmas fortnight it can go beyond ₹35,000. Fares change daily, so we quote them separately from the package price.
Can I go from Pune to Kashmir by train?
Yes. The daily Jhelum Express runs from Pune Junction to Jammu Tawi in about 40 hours. From Jammu, a Vande Bharat reaches Srinagar in just under five hours, six days a week, stopping at Katra on the way. Most families take the train one way and fly back to Pune.
Is it better to fly from Mumbai instead of Pune?
Sometimes. Mumbai has non-stop flights to Srinagar of under three hours, and fares can be lower. The catch is the 3 to 4 hour drive from Pune to Mumbai airport. For an early flight it often means leaving home at midnight, so we compare both before you book.
How many days should Pune travellers plan for Kashmir?
Six nights is the comfortable minimum when you fly, because the first and last days go mostly in transit with a connection. With the Jhelum Express and Vaishno Devi, plan nine or ten days from leaving Pune to returning home.
Can we add Vaishno Devi on a trip from Pune?
Yes, and the train route makes it natural. Get off the Jhelum Express at Jammu Tawi, drive about 1½ hours to Katra, do the darshan, then take the Vande Bharat from Katra to Srinagar in about three hours. Fly back from Srinagar at the end.
When should Pune families book Kashmir for the May holidays?
By February or early March. Flights from Pune with good connections fill first, then houseboats and Gulmarg hotels. Cable-car tickets are sold separately with daily limits, and we book them as soon as you confirm the trip.
Is Kashmir good just after Ganeshotsav?
Yes. Late September and early October are among the best weeks of the year, with dry weather, cool days and few crowds. The apple harvest is under way and the chinar trees start changing colour by mid-October, which is good for photographs.
Will we find Maharashtrian or vegetarian food in Kashmir?
Vegetarian food is easy to find, especially in Srinagar near Dal Gate and in every hotel kitchen. Maharashtrian food is not, so carry chivda, thepla and fasting supplies like sabudana from Pune. Jain and no onion–garlic meals are arranged in advance.
Will a Pune prepaid SIM work in Kashmir?
No. Prepaid mobile connections from Maharashtra and other states are blocked in Jammu and Kashmir. Postpaid numbers from all major operators work normally, so make sure at least one adult travels with one. Local prepaid SIMs need ID and take time to activate.
Do you have an office in Pune?
No. Vibrant Holidays works from Ahmedabad and plans Pune trips remotely. You speak to the same planner on WhatsApp or phone throughout, receive every document as a PDF, and get 24x7 support while you are in Kashmir.
