Kashmir Tour Packages from Mumbai
Fly out of Mumbai in the morning and take a shikara on Dal Lake by evening, or ride the train to Katra for Vaishno Devi first – Kashmir planned around Maharashtra holidays and vegetarian kitchens.
For a Mumbai family, Kashmir is the complete opposite of home: dry mountain air instead of humidity, pine forests instead of high-rises, and in winter, real snow underfoot. It is also one of the few hill destinations you can reach from Mumbai without a long drive at the far end – non-stop flights land in Srinagar in under three hours, and Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg are all within a three-hour road trip from there.
Many travellers from Mumbai want something more than the standard Srinagar loop: a darshan at Vaishno Devi on the way, a trip timed to the Diwali or May vacation, or a quick escape from the Mumbai monsoon. This page covers what a Kashmir package from Mumbai costs, the flight and train choices including the Swaraj Express and the Katra–Srinagar Vande Bharat, three day-wise plans, a gondola guide, a Maharashtra holiday planner, a month-by-month table, and where Marathi and Gujarati vegetarians will eat well. The packages listed show live prices; each trip is private, with your own car and driver throughout.

Flights from Mumbai: a return Mumbai–Srinagar ticket on a non-stop flight is usually ₹15,000–26,000 per person when booked four to six weeks out. In the May–June vacation and the Christmas week it can cross ₹30,000. Routing via Delhi is sometimes ₹2,000–4,000 cheaper but adds three hours or more each way.
By train: a 3AC berth from Mumbai to Katra on the Swaraj Express costs roughly ₹2,500–3,500 per person one way. Add about ₹1,500–2,500 for the Vande Bharat chair car from Katra to Srinagar. For a family of five, the train-plus-Vande-Bharat route can save ₹40,000 or more against peak-season flights.
Paid on the spot unless you ask us to include them: Gulmarg gondola tickets, Pahalgam union-taxi sightseeing (Aru, Betaab, Chandanwari), ponies at Sonamarg and Baisaran, the Vaishno Devi helicopter or battery car, garden entry tickets, lunches and tips. Each item appears on the quote with an estimate.
Mumbai to Kashmir by air and by rail
Flights from Mumbai
- Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International (BOM) to Srinagar (SXR): IndiGo and Air India run non-stop flights, with SpiceJet adding seasonal services. Flying time is about 2 hours 30 to 50 minutes. Not every day has a non-stop departure, so we check your dates before fixing the itinerary.
- One-stop via Delhi: 5–7 hours in total and plenty of choice. Between December and January, Delhi fog can delay connections – choose a non-stop flight in winter if one is available.
- Navi Mumbai International (NMI): airlines are adding routes from the new airport, which is convenient for Navi Mumbai, Panvel and Thane. We compare both airports when we price your trip.
- Mumbai–Jammu (IXJ): mostly one-stop; useful when Vaishno Devi comes first and you prefer to fly.
- Timing: a morning flight from Mumbai lands in Srinagar around midday, leaving the afternoon free for a shikara ride. Return flights from Srinagar involve two security checks; reach the airport about 2½ hours early.
The rail route with Vaishno Devi
- Swaraj Express (12471): runs from Bandra Terminus to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra four days a week, via Surat, Vadodara and Delhi, in about 30–33 hours. It is the only through train from Mumbai to Katra; book 3AC or 2AC as soon as the reservation window opens.
- Rajdhani plus Vande Bharat: take the Mumbai Rajdhani to New Delhi overnight, then the Vande Bharat from New Delhi to Katra (about 8 hours). This splits the journey and works on days the Swaraj does not run.
- Katra to Srinagar: the Vande Bharat Express crosses the Chenab and Anji Khad bridges and reaches Srinagar in about 3 hours. We book it along with your Katra hotel.
- By road from Jammu: about 250 km to Srinagar via the Banihal tunnel, 6–8 hours. We use it when train seats are not available.
Distances inside Kashmir
Srinagar to Gulmarg about 50 km, Pahalgam about 95 km and Sonamarg about 80 km. Inside Pahalgam and Gulmarg, the local sightseeing points are reached by union taxi, pony or gondola rather than by your own car.

The Gulmarg gondola for first-time visitors
The gondola is the reason most Mumbai families go to Gulmarg, and the part of the day that needs the most planning.
| Phase 1 | Phase 2 | |
|---|---|---|
| Route | Gulmarg to Kongdoori | Kongdoori to Apharwat peak |
| Top altitude | About 3,050 m | About 3,950 m |
| Ride time | Roughly 10 minutes | Roughly 12 minutes |
| Ticket (approx., per person) | ₹800–900 | ₹1,000–1,100 more |
| Suits | Everyone, including grandparents and small children | Fit adults and older children; very cold, thin air |
- Book online, early: tickets are sold by the Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation with daily limits. During the May vacation and the winter peak they are gone days ahead, so we book them when you confirm the trip.
- Go in the morning: queues and wind both increase after midday, and Phase 2 is the first to shut in high wind or heavy snow.
- Dress for it: even in June the top station can be close to freezing. Rent a coat and boots at the base if you are not carrying them from Mumbai.
- Ponies to the base: in snow, the walk from the car park to the gondola station is slippery; pony and sledge operators charge ₹500–1,000. Agree the price before you start.
Maharashtra holidays and the Kashmir seasons
- May vacation (early May to mid-June): the busiest time from Mumbai. Kashmir is green with all roads open and 15–25°C days. Book flights and gondola tickets eight to ten weeks ahead.
- Escaping the monsoon (July–August): while Mumbai is under heavy rain, the Kashmir valley gets only occasional showers. Hotel rates are moderate. The Amarnath Yatra brings convoys to the Pahalgam road in this period, so we adjust timings.
- After Ganeshotsav (late September): once visarjan is over, many Mumbai families take a short break. Late September has crisp weather and the apple harvest.
- Diwali vacation: Lakshmi Pujan falls on 8 November in 2026, and Maharashtra schools usually close for about two weeks around it. Early November is late autumn in Kashmir – cold mornings, the last chinar colours and quiet roads, with good hotel rates outside Diwali week itself.
- Christmas and New Year: snow in Gulmarg is likely by late December. This suits families who have never seen snow, but pack properly – Srinagar nights fall below zero.

Food and practical tips for Mumbai travellers
Marathi and Gujarati vegetarian food
Kashmir is easier for vegetarians than its reputation suggests. Srinagar has a cluster of long-running pure-veg dhabas and Punjabi restaurants around Dal Gate and Durganag, and most hotels run a full North Indian veg menu. Katra is a pilgrimage town where meat and alcohol are not sold, so vegetarian and Jain families have the widest choice there. What you will not find is Maharashtrian food – no poha, misal or varan-bhaat – so carry chivda, thepla, khakhra and ladoos for the road, especially for Sonamarg and Gulmarg days. For fasting days, sabudana is hard to get; tell us and we will brief the hotel kitchen. Jain meals and food without onion and garlic are arranged with notice and printed on the voucher. Do try Kashmiri veg dishes such as dum aloo, nadru (lotus stem), chaman (paneer in tomato gravy) and kahwa tea.
Practical tips
- Cold for Mumbai bodies: anyone used to 25–33°C feels a 10°C evening as winter. Pack a warm jacket even in May; in December–February you need thermals, gloves, woollen socks and waterproof shoes.
- Phones: prepaid connections from Maharashtra do not work in Jammu and Kashmir. Carry at least one postpaid phone in the family.
- Train journey: for the 30-hour Swaraj Express, carry home food for the first day; pantry food is basic. Lower berths for seniors are worth requesting early.
- Vaishno Devi: register for the yatra slip online before you leave Mumbai; book the helicopter as soon as the window opens because seats go fast.
- Cash: pony operators, union taxis and small shops at Pahalgam and Gulmarg want cash; UPI works in Srinagar and Katra.
- Advisories: we watch road and security updates every day and change the route if needed, and your 24x7 support line stays open throughout.

How much does a Kashmir tour package from Mumbai cost?
Our Kashmir packages currently start at ₹19,500 per person for 4 nights. Most of our Kashmir packages fall between ₹28,000 and ₹49,900 per person. The final cost depends on the travel month, hotel category, number of travellers and whether flights from {$from} are added. Open any package below to see exactly what is included, or ask us for a quote with flights.
Is there a direct flight from Mumbai to Srinagar?
Yes. IndiGo and Air India operate non-stop flights from Mumbai to Srinagar, with SpiceJet adding seasonal flights. The flight takes about 2 hours 30 to 50 minutes. Non-stop services do not run every day, and on other days you connect via Delhi in 5 to 7 hours.
What is the airfare from Mumbai to Srinagar?
A non-stop return ticket usually costs ₹15,000 to ₹26,000 per person when booked four to six weeks ahead. In May, June and the Christmas week fares can go above ₹30,000. Connecting via Delhi can be slightly cheaper but takes longer, especially when winter fog delays flights.
Which train goes from Mumbai to Vaishno Devi?
The Swaraj Express runs from Bandra Terminus to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra four days a week and takes about 30 to 33 hours. On other days, take the Rajdhani from Mumbai to New Delhi and the Vande Bharat from New Delhi to Katra, which takes about 8 hours.
Can I combine Vaishno Devi with a Kashmir tour from Mumbai?
Yes. Travel to Katra by train or via Jammu, do the darshan with one or two nights in Katra, then take the Vande Bharat Express from Katra to Srinagar in about 3 hours. Fly back from Srinagar to Mumbai to save the second long train journey.
How many days are enough for Kashmir from Mumbai?
Five nights covers Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and a Sonamarg day comfortably when you fly from Mumbai. Add one night to stay in Gulmarg or Pahalgam instead of day trips. With Vaishno Devi and the train journey, plan seven or eight nights in total.
Is Kashmir a good trip in the Diwali vacation?
Yes. In 2026 Diwali falls on 8 November, which is late autumn in Kashmir. Days are clear and cool, nights are cold, and the valleys are quiet. Snow is unlikely except at high points like Apharwat. Book flights early because Mumbai departures fill in Diwali week.
How do I book Gulmarg gondola tickets?
Tickets are sold online by the Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation with daily limits. Phase 1 costs about ₹800 to ₹900 and Phase 2 about ₹1,000 to ₹1,100 more. We book them for you when you confirm the package, which matters in May, June and December.
Will we get vegetarian and Jain food in Kashmir?
Yes. Srinagar has many pure-veg dhabas and restaurants near Dal Gate, and Katra is fully vegetarian. Hotels in Gulmarg and Pahalgam serve veg thalis and prepare Jain food with notice. Maharashtrian dishes are not available, so carry snacks from Mumbai for long sightseeing days.
When can we see snow in Kashmir from Mumbai?
Gulmarg usually has snow from mid-December to February and often into March, which is the best window for families who want snow play. Outside winter, the top of the Gulmarg gondola and the Thajiwas glacier at Sonamarg still have patches of snow in April and May.
Is Kashmir a good escape from the Mumbai monsoon?
Yes. From July to August the Kashmir valley gets only occasional rain and stays green and mild, with 20 to 30 degree days in Srinagar. Rates are moderate. The Amarnath Yatra affects traffic towards Pahalgam in this period, so we plan those days around the convoys.
Do Mumbai mobile numbers work in Kashmir?
Postpaid numbers from any operator work across Jammu and Kashmir, but prepaid connections from Maharashtra and other states do not. Make sure at least one person in your group carries a postpaid phone, or buy a local prepaid SIM in Srinagar with ID proof.
