A New Year 2027 trip from Ahmedabad has one thing going for it that most years don't: the calendar. 31 December 2026 is a Thursday and 1 January 2027 is a Friday, so 1–3 January is a ready-made three-day weekend, and a single leave day on the Thursday turns it into four. The catch is that every family in Gujarat can read a calendar too. Flights for 30–31 December are already 20–40% above the early-December fares we quoted in our Goa in December guide, and the good hotels are selling 31 December as a package with a compulsory gala dinner.
This guide is for Ahmedabad travellers deciding where to be at midnight. We cover six places that put on a real show (Dubai, Goa, Bangkok, Singapore, Kochi and Gulmarg), what the night actually looks like in each, indicative return fares from Ahmedabad for 30–31 December to 3–4 January as searched on 29 October 2026, the gala-dinner trap, pure veg and Jain food on the night, and a book-by-date list so you are not paying last-minute prices in the third week of December. Prices below are indicative and change daily; treat them as a planning range, not a quote.
The 2026–27 New Year calendar for Gujarat travellers
Three dates matter. Christmas, 25 December 2026, falls on a Friday, which gives a 25–27 December long weekend for a short trip. New Year's Eve, 31 December, is a Thursday. New Year's Day, 1 January 2027, is a Friday, so 1–3 January is the main long weekend. Gujarat schools and most offices do not give a Christmas break, so the practical windows are:
- Zero leave, 3 days: fly out on the evening of 31 December, return Sunday 3 January. Works for Goa and Kochi; too tight for anything with a visa or a 5-hour flight.
- One leave day (31 Dec), 4 days: out on 30 December night or 31 December morning, back 3 January. The sweet spot for Dubai and Goa.
- Two to three leave days (29–31 Dec), 6 days: out 28–29 December, back 3–4 January. Needed for Bangkok, Singapore and Kashmir, where the flight time and the second city deserve the days.
Return fares on 3 January are the most expensive of the whole window because everyone comes home that day. Coming back on Monday 4 January, even though it costs a leave day, was ₹1,000–3,000 per person cheaper on most routes we checked.
Six places to be at midnight on 31 December 2026
1. Dubai: Burj Khalifa fireworks and the Dubai Shopping Festival
Dubai is the classic New Year's Eve for Ahmedabad families because it is a three-hour direct flight and the city is built for a crowd. The midnight centrepiece every year is the Burj Khalifa fireworks and light show, watched from Downtown, Burj Park and the Dubai Mall promenades; the paid viewing areas and the hotel terraces around the fountain sell out first, and the free spots fill up by early evening, so plan to be in position by 8 PM with water and snacks. The 32nd Dubai Shopping Festival runs from 4 December 2026 to 17 January 2027 (dates announced 15 October 2026), so the week has fireworks on several evenings, raffles and mall sales as well as the main event.
Fares and visa (as of October 2026): IndiGo flies non-stop Ahmedabad–Dubai, and the cheapest return we found for two adults with checked bags, out 31 December and back 4 January, was about ₹97,900, which is roughly ₹49,000 per person. Early December the same route is closer to ₹30,000–35,000 per person. Indian passport holders need a UAE visa arranged in advance (see our Dubai visa guide for Indians); apply by the first week of December because processing slows in the festive rush. We never promise visa approval. Pure veg and Jain food is the easiest of the six: Bur Dubai and Karama have Gujarati thali restaurants, and most hotel gala buffets have a proper vegetarian section if you ask when booking. Our Dubai tour packages from Ahmedabad page has the full 4- and 5-night plans.
2. Goa: the closest big night, if you book now
Goa is the only destination on this list you can do with zero leave. The IndiGo 19:10 departure on 31 December lands in Goa at 20:40, which is enough time to reach a North Goa hotel for the midnight party; the 04:00 departure gets you there for breakfast. Return fares for two adults with bags, out 31 December and back 3–4 January, started at about ₹34,800 with one stop and about ₹42,500 for non-stop both ways, so ₹17,000–21,000 per person. The beach-shack parties on the Baga–Calangute belt and the big ticketed events at Vagator are the midnight options; South Goa (Palolem, Colva) is for couples and parents who want the fireworks without the traffic. Note that the Sunburn festival is not in Goa this year; it is in Mumbai on 18–19 December 2026. Everything you need on hotel bands, the airport-by-hotel choice and taxi apps is in the Goa in December guide, and the packages are on the Goa tour packages from Ahmedabad page.
3. Bangkok: centralwOrld countdown, no visa
Bangkok's New Year's Eve is a street party. The centralwOrld countdown in the Ratchaprasong district drew more than 350,000 people for 2026 with Thailand's longest cityscape fireworks and a drone show (organiser release, 5 January 2026), and the riverside countdowns at ICONSIAM and the Chao Phraya hotels are the calmer, prettier alternative for families. Thai Airways TG344 leaves Ahmedabad at 00:55 and lands in Bangkok at 06:40 non-stop; for two adults with bags, out 30 December and back 4 January, the cheapest return we found was about ₹96,900, so ₹48,500 per person. Indians get 30 days visa-free (as of October 2026; complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card within 72 hours of landing), which makes Thailand the easiest international pick for a late decision. Jain and Gujarati food is well covered in Bangkok's Pratunam and Sukhumvit areas; our Thailand trip cost from Ahmedabad post lists what we pay for veg meals there. Packages are on the Thailand tour packages from Ahmedabad page.
4. Singapore: Marina Bay countdown for families
Singapore is the safest, cleanest midnight on this list, which is why we recommend it to parents with young children and to couples travelling with elderly parents. The Marina Bay Singapore Countdown is free, with a light projection show on the Fullerton Hotel from late December and a 30-minute fireworks display at midnight over the bay; the 2027 edition had not been formally announced when we checked on 29 October 2026, but it has run every year and the format is stable. Singapore Airlines SQ505 is the non-stop (23:05 from Ahmedabad, 07:15 into Changi); for two adults with bags, out 29–30 December and back 4 January, the cheapest return we found was about ₹1,13,300, so ₹56,700 per person. Indians need a visa (about S$30 plus agent fee, 3–5 working days as of October 2026; details in our Singapore visa guide), so decide by the first week of December. For Jain and pure veg meals on the night, Little India's Serangoon Road is a 15-minute cab from Marina Bay; our Jain food in Singapore guide has nine tested restaurants. Full plans: Singapore tour packages from Ahmedabad.
5. Kochi: the Cochin Carnival and the Papanji burning
Fort Kochi gives you the most unusual New Year in India. The Cochin Carnival runs from mid-December to 1 January every year, and its climax is the burning of the Papanji, a giant effigy of an old man that goes up in flames at midnight on 31 December at Vasco da Gama Square or Parade Ground, with street parades, floats and music through the night. Two honest cautions: the crowd is enormous and the organisers close roads on 31 December, so stay inside Fort Kochi rather than in Ernakulam if you want to walk back; and the Papanji burning was cancelled at short notice in 2024 as a mark of respect after a national mourning announcement, so do not build the whole trip around one effigy. Pair the night with two days in Munnar or an Alleppey houseboat. Fares for two adults with bags, out 31 December and back 3–4 January, started at about ₹57,500 with one stop and about ₹71,900 for the SpiceJet non-stop (18:30 from Ahmedabad, 21:05 into Kochi), so ₹29,000–36,000 per person. Our Kerala tour packages from Ahmedabad page has the Munnar–Kochi combinations.
6. Gulmarg: a snow New Year in Kashmir
If your idea of midnight is a bonfire in the snow rather than fireworks, Gulmarg is it. Late December is reliably snow-covered, the gondola runs on clear days, and hotels organise their own bonfire-and-dinner nights because there is no public countdown. It is the most expensive of the six for the distance: for two adults with bags, out 30–31 December and back 4 January, the cheapest return we found was about ₹70,300 via Delhi, so ₹35,000 per person, and there is no non-stop. Add ₹5,000–8,000 for the Srinagar–Gulmarg transfers in snow. The practical warnings (gondola queues, what to pack, road closures) are in our Kashmir in December guide; packages are on the Kashmir tour packages from Ahmedabad page.
Fares from Ahmedabad at a glance
All fares are for two adults with one checked bag each, return, searched on 29 October 2026 for departures on 29–31 December and returns on 3–4 January. They will move, usually upwards, so treat them as a range.
| Destination | Cheapest return for 2 | Non-stop? | Visa for Indians |

| Kochi | from ₹57,500 (1 stop) / ₹71,900 non-stop | Yes, SpiceJet | None |
| Srinagar (for Gulmarg) | from ₹70,300 (via Delhi) | No | None |

Goa and Kochi are also reachable from Ahmedabad by train, and Udaipur, Mount Abu and the Rann of Kutch by road. The Rann Utsav tent city at Dhordo is open from 1 November 2026 to 7 March 2027, and New Year's Eve there needs to be asked for early; our Gujarat tour packages page covers it, and the weekend getaways from Ahmedabad guide has the drive-able options for families who decide late.
The gala-dinner trap, and how to read a New Year hotel quote
This is the part that surprises first-time New Year travellers. In our experience, most 4- and 5-star resorts in Goa, Dubai, Thailand and Bali add a compulsory New Year's Eve gala dinner charge to any booking that includes the night of 31 December. It is not optional, it is charged per adult (and often per child above a certain age), and it is frequently not shown in the online room rate; it appears as a line in the final invoice or at check-in. Before you pay for any 31 December stay, get three things in writing: the gala dinner amount per person, whether children are charged, and whether a vegetarian or Jain menu is available. If the hotel cannot confirm a veg menu, book the room for 30 December and 1 January only and spend New Year's Eve at a restaurant or a public countdown instead; you will usually save money and eat better.
Two more quote-reading habits. First, check whether the package price is per person or per couple; New Year rates are often quoted per couple to look smaller. Second, ask what happens if the countdown event is cancelled (it happened with Kochi's Papanji in 2024 and with Goa's beach festivals in 2025); a package that refunds the event component is worth a slightly higher price.
Pure veg and Jain food on 31 December
Most of the Gujarati families we plan for eat pure veg, and a good number need Jain food without onion, garlic and root vegetables. For the six picks above: Dubai and Singapore are the easiest, with Gujarati and South Indian restaurants in Bur Dubai and Little India respectively that stay open late on 31 December. Bangkok has Jain-friendly Indian restaurants around Pratunam, but book a table for the night because they fill with Indian groups. Goa's beach shacks do veg, but Jain is hard; carry theplas and ask your hotel for a Jain room-service option in advance. Fort Kochi has a handful of veg restaurants and the Ernakulam side has Gujarati thali; take dinner early before the roads close. Gulmarg hotels cook Jain on request if told 48 hours ahead; there is no restaurant choice once you are there. On any of these trips, carrying a snack kit (khakhra, thepla, dry fruits, packaged dhokla mix) covers the midnight hour when every kitchen is overloaded.
Book in this order
- By 10 November: flights for 30–31 December out and 3–4 January back. These rise fastest and the non-stops to Dubai, Bangkok and Singapore have only one departure a day from Ahmedabad.
- By 15 November: the 31 December hotel night, with the gala dinner terms in writing. The other nights can wait.
- By 1 December: visa applications for Dubai and Singapore; Thailand needs only the digital arrival card.
- By 10 December: event tickets if you want a reserved spot (Dubai Burj Park, Bangkok riverside dinners, Goa festival passes) and travel insurance, which also covers the flight delays that fog brings to north Indian routes in late December.
- By 20 December: forex for Dubai, Thailand or Singapore; rates are better in Ahmedabad than at the airport, and cards work everywhere but a little cash helps with taxis and street food.
A sample 4-day New Year plan: Dubai with one leave day
Wednesday 30 December: IndiGo 16:55 from Ahmedabad, 18:25 into Dubai. Check in at a Bur Dubai or Downtown hotel, dinner at a Gujarati thali place in Karama.
Thursday 31 December: Morning at Dubai Mall and the Aquarium; afternoon rest, because the evening is long. Be in your fireworks spot by 8 PM: Burj Park if you have tickets, or one of the other shows the city has run in past years (Dubai Festival City, Bluewaters) if you want fewer people. Midnight fireworks, then walk or metro back; taxis are near impossible until 2 AM.
Friday 1 January: Late start, desert safari in the afternoon with a veg dinner at the camp, or the Global Village evening for families with children.
Saturday 2 January: Abu Dhabi day trip (Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Yas Island) or Dubai Frame and Miracle Garden; Dubai Shopping Festival sales in the evening.
Sunday 3 January or Monday 4 January: IndiGo 11:20 from Dubai, 15:35 into Ahmedabad. Monday was cheaper on the date we checked.
New Year 2027 trip from Ahmedabad: FAQs
Which is the cheapest New Year's Eve trip from Ahmedabad?
Goa, at an indicative ₹17,000–21,000 per person return airfare for 31 December to 3–4 January as of late October 2026, plus a hotel. Udaipur, Mount Abu and the Rann of Kutch are cheaper still by road, but have no public fireworks show.
How many leave days do I need for a New Year 2027 trip?
None for Goa or Kochi (fly out on the evening of 31 December, return Sunday 3 January). One day, Thursday 31 December, is enough for Dubai. Take two to three days (29–31 December) for Bangkok, Singapore or Kashmir.
Is the New Year's Eve gala dinner at hotels compulsory?
At most 4- and 5-star resorts in Goa, Dubai, Thailand and Bali, yes, for any booking that includes the night of 31 December. Ask for the amount per adult and per child in writing before paying, and confirm a vegetarian or Jain menu.
Do Indians need a visa for a New Year trip to Dubai, Thailand or Singapore?
As of October 2026: Dubai and Singapore need a visa arranged in advance, so apply by the first week of December; Thailand is visa-free for 30 days with a digital arrival card. Visa approval is never guaranteed by any agent.
Is the Burj Khalifa New Year fireworks show free to watch?
Watching from the public areas around Downtown Dubai is free, but the spots fill by early evening. Reserved viewing at Burj Park and the hotel terraces is ticketed and sells out in December.
When should I book flights from Ahmedabad for New Year 2027?
By the second week of November. On 29 October 2026 the New Year fares were already 20–40% above early-December fares on the same routes, and the single daily non-stops to Dubai, Bangkok and Singapore fill first.
