The Dubai Shopping Festival 2026-27 is the 32nd edition and, at 45 days, the longest DSF so far: it runs from 4 December 2026 to 17 January 2027. For families from Ahmedabad it lands in a useful slot – after the Diwali vacation is over, before Uttarayan, with a three-hour non-stop flight and some of the year's best Dubai weather (18–26°C). This guide covers what has actually been confirmed as of October 2026, which of the three DSF windows is cheapest from Ahmedabad, how the tourist VAT refund really works in rupees, what you can bring back through Indian customs, and where to find Gujarati and Jain food between the malls. Package options and prices are on our Dubai tour packages from Ahmedabad page; this post is the festival planner.
DSF 2026-27 dates and what is confirmed (as of October 2026)
The dates were announced on 15 October 2026. Here is what has been published so far, and what is still to come. Treat the "to be announced" items as likely but unconfirmed – past editions had fireworks on most December weekends and large mall raffles, but the 2026-27 schedule had not been released when we wrote this.

Two things that are not DSF but run alongside it matter just as much for a Gujarati family: Global Village season 31 opened on 14 October 2026 and runs to May 2027, and Dubai Miracle Garden season 15 opened on 8 October 2026. Both are covered below.
Which DSF window to pick from Ahmedabad
The 45 days split naturally into three windows, and they are not priced the same. We checked live return fares for two adults with checked bags on 30 October 2026; they move daily, so treat them as a guide.
Window 1: opening fortnight, 4–17 December
Cheapest flights, cheapest hotels, full festival. IndiGo's non-stop 6E1477 (Ahmedabad 16:55 → Dubai 18:25) with a SpiceJet or IndiGo return was showing from about ₹79,000 for two, roughly ₹39,700 per person, for a 4–6 night trip in the first week of December. The Beach Canteen opens on 10 December. Gujarat schools generally don't have a Christmas break, so this window suits couples, seniors and families who can take leave, and it is the one we recommend for value.
Window 2: Christmas to New Year, 20 December – 2 January
Peak everything: the New Year's Eve fireworks at Burj Khalifa draw the biggest crowds of the year and hotel rates are at their highest. The shopping is the same as in December, so go in this window for the New Year itself, not for the deals. If midnight at the Burj is the goal, our New Year 2027 trip guide from Ahmedabad explains where to stand and what to book early.
Window 3: finale, 8–17 January
MOTB runs 8–24 January at d3, the Auto Season closes the festival, and end-of-season markdowns are deepest. Fares were showing from about ₹91,700 for two (around ₹45,800 per person) on IndiGo both ways for 8–17 January – higher than early December because the Dubai winter peak is in full swing. One Ahmedabad-specific catch: Uttarayan falls on 14 January, and most Amdavadi families want to be on the terrace that day. Either fly back by the 13th or accept that you will miss the kites.
What to buy at DSF – and the Indian customs limits
Gold. The Deira Gold Souk (Al Ras metro, Green Line) is the reason many Gujarati families go in the first place. Prices are quoted as the day's rate plus making charges; 5% VAT is added on jewellery, and tourists can claim most of it back at the airport (see the next section). Before you buy, know the customs side: under India's Baggage Rules 2026, an Indian resident returning from a short trip gets a general duty-free allowance of ₹75,000 per adult (up from ₹50,000; children have a lower allowance), and gold jewellery you wear or carry counts inside that. The separate 20 g (men) / 40 g (women) jewellery concession applies only to Indians who have lived abroad for more than a year. Anything above your allowance should be declared at the red channel and duty paid on the excess – carry the souk invoice.
Electronics. One laptop per adult passenger is duty-free. Phones and cameras fall within the ₹75,000 allowance. Check the India price (with exchange offers) before you fly; after the VAT refund the gap on flagship phones is often smaller than families expect, and the Indian warranty is usually worth more than the saving.
Everything else. Perfumes and attars (Deira Perfume Souk and the mall counters both discount heavily in DSF), dates and chocolates for gifting, kids' clothes and toys at the mall sales, kurta and abaya fabric in Meena Bazaar, and the Global Village pavilions for Turkish, Iranian and Afghan dry fruits. Keep the receipts together – you will need them at the VAT kiosk.
Tourist VAT refund: the maths in rupees
The UAE charges 5% VAT and refunds most of it to tourists through the Planet scheme at the airport. The rules as of October 2026, from the Federal Tax Authority:
- Minimum spend AED 250 (excluding VAT) per tax-free transaction at a registered retailer – ask for the "tax free" tag when you pay and show your passport.
- Planet keeps 13% of the VAT plus AED 3.60 per transaction; the rest is refunded.
- Validate within 90 days of the invoice, at the self-service kiosks at Dubai International before check-in (or at mall and hotel kiosks if your flight is within 24 hours and you have an online boarding pass). You must leave the UAE within six hours of validating, so do it just before you fly.
- Refund to card lands in about nine days; cash refunds are capped at AED 35,000 and are collected after immigration.
- Only the passport holder can validate, and the goods may be asked for at inspection, so keep purchases in cabin baggage until after the kiosk.
Worked example: a jewellery bill of AED 2,100 including VAT carries AED 100 of tax. The refund is AED 100 minus 13% (AED 13) minus AED 3.60 – about AED 83, roughly ₹2,000 at late-October 2026 rates. On a family's AED 10,000 of DSF shopping that is close to ₹10,000 back, which pays for the Global Village and Miracle Garden tickets with change to spare. Carry some dirhams in cash for the souks; our forex desk on C G Road can load a card and give notes before you leave Ahmedabad.
Beyond the malls: Global Village, Miracle Garden and the free stuff
Global Village (season 31, 14 Oct 2026 – May 2027). Entry is AED 25 on weekdays and AED 30 on Friday–Sunday and public holidays, so an evening for a family of four costs about ₹2,400–2,900 at the gate. Hours are 4 pm to midnight Sunday–Wednesday and until 1 am Thursday–Saturday. Budget a full evening: country pavilions, the stage shows, street food and the funfair rides (rides are paid separately). It is a lot of walking for grandparents; go on a weekday, arrive at opening, and hire a wheelchair at the gate if needed.
Dubai Miracle Garden (season 15, opened 8 Oct 2026). AED 100 for adults, AED 90 for children, free under 3; open 9 am–9 pm daily with last entry at 8.30 pm. Weekday mornings are quietest; an hour before sunset gives the best photos. It is near Dubailand, so pair it with Global Village in the same taxi day rather than a separate trip.
Free during DSF: the Dubai Fountain shows outside Dubai Mall, the Hatta Wadi Hub family experiences, the Beach Canteen (entry is free; you pay for food), and the fireworks and drone shows once the schedule is announced. The Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates are both on the Metro Red Line (Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates stations), which keeps taxi spending down – buy a Nol card at the first station.
Gujarati, pure-veg and Jain food while you shop
This is the part of Dubai that worries parents and grandparents, and it should not. Bur Dubai, Karama and Meena Bazaar are a ten-minute taxi from the Gold Souk and have Gujarati thali, Punjabi and South Indian pure-veg restaurants within a few streets of each other; this is where we send families for lunch between souk and mall. The big malls all have Indian vegetarian counters in their food courts, and the Global Village India pavilion has chaat and veg snacks. For strict Jain meals (no onion, garlic or root vegetables), the reliable approach is to tell the restaurant a day ahead and to choose a hotel in Bur Dubai or Al Barsha that already handles Jain groups – we specify this at booking rather than hoping. Carry thepla and khakhra for the flight and for late evenings at Global Village, where queues at the Indian stalls are longest. Alcohol-free and pork-free options are easy everywhere; hotel breakfast buffets usually have a clearly marked vegetarian section.
A 5-night DSF plan from Ahmedabad
This is the shape we use for a couple or a family of four in the opening fortnight; swap days freely around the fireworks schedule once it is out.
- Day 1 (afternoon flight): IndiGo 16:55 from Ahmedabad, land 18:25, hotel in Bur Dubai or Al Barsha. Evening walk to Dubai Mall for the fountain show and the first look at DSF offers – no buying yet.
- Day 2: Morning Dubai Frame and the Al Fahidi old quarter; abra across the creek to Deira for the Gold Souk, Spice Souk and Perfume Souk. Lunch in Meena Bazaar. Evening at Global Village (arrive 4 pm on a weekday).
- Day 3: Desert safari afternoon with veg BBQ dinner (ask for a Jain plate in advance) – children and seniors can skip dune bashing and join at the camp.
- Day 4: Miracle Garden in the morning, Mall of the Emirates after lunch for the DSF sales, Beach Canteen at Sunset Beach in the evening (10–27 Dec).
- Day 5: Abu Dhabi day trip (BAPS Hindu Mandir and the Grand Mosque) or Burj Khalifa at sunset plus final shopping at Dubai Mall. Pack purchases in cabin bags.
- Day 6: VAT validation at the Planet kiosks before check-in, IndiGo 11:20 back to Ahmedabad, landing 15:35.
With small children, drop Abu Dhabi and keep a pool afternoon; our Dubai with kids plan from Ahmedabad has age-wise ticket prices for the theme parks if that is the priority.
Visa, insurance and booking order
Indian passport holders need a UAE visa arranged before travel unless they qualify for visa on arrival through a valid US, UK, EU or similar visa; the current fees, documents and processing times are on our Dubai visa for Indians guide. We apply on your behalf, but approval is always the UAE authority's decision. Book in this order for DSF: flights first (December fares climb fastest), then the hotel, then the visa 10–15 days before departure, then Global Village and Miracle Garden tickets online to skip the gate queue. Travel insurance is inexpensive for a 6-day Dubai trip and worth it for senior parents. Our family holiday packages page shows how we usually structure the Dubai hotel plus transfers plus sightseeing for Gujarati families, and the tour packages from Ahmedabad hub lists other destinations that work in the same December–January weather.
FAQs about the Dubai Shopping Festival 2026-27
When is the Dubai Shopping Festival 2026-27?
From 4 December 2026 to 17 January 2027 – 45 days, the longest edition yet. The dates were announced on 15 October 2026.
Is DSF cheaper than normal Dubai shopping, or is it just hype?
Mall promotions, raffles and the 12-hour sales are real, and end-of-season markdowns in January are deep. Gold is not discounted – it follows the daily rate – but making charges are often negotiable in the souk. The biggest saving for Indian tourists is actually the VAT refund, which applies all year.
How much is the Ahmedabad–Dubai flight during DSF?
As of 30 October 2026, non-stop return fares for two adults with checked bags started around ₹79,000 for early December and ₹91,700 for 8–17 January. Prices change daily and rise sharply for 20 December – 2 January.
Can I get a VAT refund on gold bought in Dubai?
Yes, on the VAT charged (5% on jewellery). You need a minimum AED 250 purchase from a registered retailer, the tax-free tag issued at the counter, and validation at the Planet kiosk at the airport before departure. Planet deducts 13% of the VAT plus AED 3.60 per transaction.
How much can we bring back to India duty-free?
₹75,000 per adult resident under the Baggage Rules 2026, including jewellery; one laptop per adult is duty-free on top. Declare anything above the limit at the red channel. Rules can change, so confirm with the CBIC traveller guide close to your date.
Is Dubai weather good in December and January?
Yes – daytime 18–26°C, cool evenings, no rain to speak of. Carry a light jacket for Global Village after 9 pm and for the desert camp.
