Every big travel site sells Rajasthan to people arriving at Jaipur airport. From Ahmedabad the geography is completely different: Udaipur is 260 km up the national highway, Mount Abu is a weekend drive, Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur are an easy loop from Udaipur, and even Jodhpur and Jaisalmer are reachable by road in a way that lets you stop at Nakoda and Osian on the way. Vibrant Holidays has been planning these drives from C G Road for 11 years – honeymoons in Udaipur's lake hotels, extended-family trips in a Tempo Traveller through Mewar and Marwar, Jain pilgrimages to Ranakpur and Dilwara, corporate offsites in Jaipur, and the grand 8–9 night circuit that ends in a desert camp.

All 121 packages below are live-priced. Below them you will find the drive-time table from Ahmedabad, the Mewar versus Marwar circuit choice, three day-wise itineraries, a buyer's guide to desert camps (Sam or Khuri), Ranthambore safari zones and palace hotels, a month-by-month calendar with the festival dates that matter, and the food and hotel notes a Gujarati family actually needs.

Rajasthan tour package price guide (2026)

Rajasthan packages on this page start at ₹6,500 per person. Because you can drive from Ahmedabad, most of our Rajasthan trips have no flight cost at all – the vehicle from your doorstep is the main transport line. The bands below are per person on twin sharing with a private AC car, hotels with breakfast, sightseeing by road and all tolls and driver costs, excluding entry tickets, safaris and any flights or trains.

4N/5D Jaipur – Ranthambore (fly or train to Jaipur)₹16,000 – 21,000₹24,000 – 32,000₹55,000+

Usually extra on the ground: monument entry tickets (City Palace Udaipur, Mehrangarh, Amber Fort, Jaisalmer fort havelis), Ranthambore safari permit and vehicle (about ₹5,000–8,000 per gypsy for Indian visitors, shared by six), camel or jeep safari and cultural programme at the desert camp unless included, Lake Pichola boat ride, Kumbhalgarh light-and-sound show, and 5% GST. If you fly or take the train: Ahmedabad–Jaipur flights take about 1 h 15 min and return fares are usually ₹6,000–9,000; overnight trains from Ahmedabad reach Jaipur and Jodhpur comfortably and cost a fraction of that.

Rajasthan by road from Ahmedabad – distances and drive times

These timings assume a private car leaving Ahmedabad early morning with one meal stop. The Ahmedabad–Udaipur highway is excellent; the Udaipur–Jodhpur and Jodhpur–Jaisalmer roads are good two-lane and four-lane stretches through open country.

  • Chauffeur-driven: we provide an AC Dzire for a couple, Innova Crysta for a family, or Tempo Traveller for an extended family, from your home in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara or Surat, with fuel, tolls, parking, state taxes and the driver's allowance included. The driver stays with you for the whole circuit.
  • Self-drive: we price the same hotels and sightseeing as land-only; the Udaipur, Mount Abu and Kumbhalgarh roads are easy in your own car.
  • Train and flight options: day trains connect Ahmedabad with Udaipur in about 5–6 hours; overnight trains run to Jodhpur and Jaipur; Ahmedabad–Jaipur flights take about 1 h 15 min. A popular hybrid is to drive Ahmedabad–Udaipur–Jodhpur–Jaisalmer and take the train back from Jaisalmer or Jodhpur.

For a first Rajasthan trip from Ahmedabad we almost always suggest Mewar plus Marwar in 6–7 nights: Udaipur, Kumbhalgarh/Ranakpur, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer, driving in from Ahmedabad and taking the train or flying home. Jaipur and Ranthambore are better as a separate 4–5 night trip by air.

Rajasthan itineraries by trip type

  • Day 3: Eklingji and Nathdwara darshan on the way home (optional), drive back to Ahmedabad.

6 nights / 7 days – Mewar and Marwar for the family

  • Day 1: Ahmedabad – Udaipur (5 h); City Palace, Pichola boat ride.
  • Day 2: Udaipur local sightseeing; evening free in the old city.
  • Day 3: Udaipur – Ranakpur Jain temples (about 2 h) – Kumbhalgarh fort and the Great Wall; overnight Kumbhalgarh.

  • Day 7: Return to Jaisalmer; train or flight home via Jodhpur, or two-day drive back with a night at Mount Abu.

8 nights / 9 days – the grand circuit (complete Rajasthan)

Follow the 6-night route to Jaisalmer, then drive Jaisalmer – Bikaner or Jodhpur – Pushkar (Brahma temple, ghats, camel fair in October–November) – Jaipur (Amber Fort, City Palace, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, Chokhi Dhani evening) – optional Ranthambore for two safaris – fly Jaipur–Ahmedabad. With a tenth night we add Mandawa's painted havelis in Shekhawati.

Jain pilgrimage and seniors – 4 nights

Ahmedabad – Ambaji – Mount Abu (Dilwara temples, Nakki lake, Guru Shikhar) – Ranakpur (the 1,444-pillar Adinath temple; darshan for non-Jains from noon) – Udaipur – Nathdwara (Shrinathji) – Ahmedabad. For Marwar, we add Nakoda Parshwanath near Balotra and Osian. Short drives, hotels with lifts, Jain bhojanshala meals at every stop, and darshan timed to each temple's opening hours.

Buyer's guide: desert camps, Ranthambore zones and palace hotels

Desert camps – Sam or Khuri, and which tent?

  • Sam dunes (about 40 km from Jaisalmer): the biggest dunes and the most camps – a strip of 100-plus properties with camel rides, jeep safaris, folk music and dance programmes every evening. Lively and convenient; also crowded on weekends and in Christmas week.
  • Khuri (about 45 km, further south): a village setting with far fewer camps, smaller dunes, quieter nights and a more authentic feel. Our recommendation for couples and anyone who found Sam too busy on a previous trip.
  • Tent categories: standard Swiss tents have attached baths and fans; deluxe tents add AC or heaters, better beds and private sit-outs; luxury camps offer suites with bathtubs, plunge pools and private dinners on the dunes. December–January nights drop close to freezing, so heating matters more than it sounds.
  • Season: most camps operate from October to March only; a few stay open in April and September with heat discounts.

Ranthambore – zones and permits

  • The reserve is divided into ten safari zones. Zones 1–5 are the historic core around the fort and lakes with the highest tiger sighting rates; zones 6–10 are buffer areas that are quieter and sometimes just as productive. Core zones close from July to September for the monsoon; some buffer zones stay open.
  • Safaris run in morning and afternoon slots in gypsies (six seats) or canters (20 seats). Permits are booked on the forest department's online portal with photo ID, typically opening months ahead, and zone allocation is by the system – you cannot choose your zone when booking a regular permit. We book early, pay for a gypsy where possible, and tell you honestly that sightings are never guaranteed.
  • Jaipur to Ranthambore is 180 km (3½ hours); plan two nights for two safaris.

Palace hotels – heritage haveli or 5-star palace?

  • Heritage havelis and small forts (Udaipur old city, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Kumbhalgarh, Mandawa): 300–500-year-old buildings run as 3- and 4-star hotels, with character, courtyards and reasonable prices; rooms vary a lot, so we pick the category by hand.
  • Converted royal palaces (Udaipur lakeside, Jodhpur's Umaid Bhawan area, Jaipur): 5-star luxury with lawns, pools and lake or fort views, from about ₹20,000 to well over ₹1,00,000 a night. One such night in Udaipur is the most common honeymoon upgrade we sell.
  • Resorts outside town (Udaipur hills, Jaipur–Delhi highway, Jawai): good for corporate offsites and families with children who want a pool. Jawai, between Udaipur and Jodhpur, adds leopard safaris among granite hills.

Best time to visit Rajasthan – month by month

MonthsWeatherGood forPrices
October – NovemberPleasant, 18–32°C; clear skiesEverything; Diwali break; Pushkar camel fair (around Kartik Purnima, usually November); Marwar Festival in JodhpurHigh; Diwali and Pushkar week highest
December – JanuaryCold nights (2–8°C in the desert), sunny daysDesert camps, Jaisalmer, Ranthambore (Dhikala-style winter sightings), Christmas–New YearHighest; book camps and palace hotels 8 weeks ahead
February – MarchWarming, 15–32°C; Jaisalmer Desert Festival (February), Holi, Mewar Festival in Udaipur (March–April)Couples, seniors, festivals, last good desert monthModerate
April – JuneVery hot, 38–45°C; Mount Abu stays 25–32°CMount Abu, Udaipur with pool hotels in the May vacation; Ranthambore sightings peak as animals come to waterLowest; heavy palace-hotel discounts
July – SeptemberMonsoon; Udaipur, Kumbhalgarh and Mount Abu turn green; Teej in Jaipur (July–August)Udaipur monsoon weekends from Ahmedabad, Kumbhalgarh, Mount Abu; Ranthambore core closedLow

Gujarati families travel to Rajasthan in two bursts: Diwali week (ideal for the full Mewar–Marwar circuit) and the May vacation, when we steer you to Mount Abu, Udaipur's pool resorts and Kumbhalgarh rather than the desert. Udaipur and Mount Abu also make superb monsoon weekends from Ahmedabad in August–September, when the lakes are full and hotel rates are at their lowest.

Places to visit in Rajasthan

  • Udaipur: City Palace, Lake Pichola boat ride, Jagdish temple, Saheliyon ki Bari, Sajjangarh sunset – the closest and most romantic Rajasthan city to Ahmedabad.
  • Mount Abu: Dilwara Jain temples (carved marble like nowhere else), Nakki lake, Guru Shikhar, Sunset Point; Ambaji temple on the Gujarat side.
  • Kumbhalgarh: the 36 km wall and birthplace of Maharana Pratap; a wildlife sanctuary and a light-and-sound show.
  • Ranakpur: the 15th-century Adinath temple with 1,444 individually carved pillars – a must for Jain families and architecture lovers alike.
  • Chittorgarh: India's largest fort, with Vijay Stambh, Padmini's palace and the Meera temple.
  • Nathdwara: Shrinathji temple, the most visited Vaishnav shrine for Gujarati families; darshan timings change through the day.
  • Jodhpur: Mehrangarh fort, Jaswant Thada, the blue old city, Sardar Market and Umaid Bhawan.
  • Jaisalmer: the living fort, Patwon ki Haveli, Gadisar lake, Bada Bagh, and the Sam or Khuri dunes for a camp night.
  • Osian and Nakoda: 8th–11th-century temples in the desert and the Nakoda Parshwanath Jain tirth near Balotra.
  • Jaipur: Amber Fort, Hawa Mahal, City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Nahargarh sunset and bazaars for block prints and jewellery.
  • Pushkar and Ajmer: the Brahma temple and lake ghats, the Ajmer Sharif dargah, and the camel fair in November.
  • Ranthambore: tiger safaris in the dry forest around a hilltop fort, 3½ hours from Jaipur.
  • Jawai and Bera: leopard safaris among granite hills between Udaipur and Jodhpur, in luxury camps and homestays.

Food, hotels and tips for Gujarati travellers

  • Vegetarian and Jain food: Rajasthan is a vegetarian-majority state and one of the easiest in India for Jain food. Marwari and Rajasthani thali houses in Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaipur and Jaisalmer serve dal-baati-churma, gatte ki sabzi, ker sangri and bajra rotla, and most will do Jain preparations on request; Nathdwara, Ranakpur and Mount Abu have Jain bhojanshalas. Gujarati thali restaurants exist in Udaipur, Mount Abu and Jaipur. Only desert camps need a reminder – we confirm Jain meals with the camp in writing.
  • Hotel categories: every city has clean 3-star hotels, heritage havelis at 4-star prices, and genuine palace hotels at the top. In Udaipur the choice that matters is lake view or old city; in Jaisalmer, inside the fort (atmospheric but basic) or outside (better hotels); in Jodhpur, old city havelis with fort views are worth the walk.
  • Pack: layers for winter – desert nights in December–January are near freezing while days are 25°C; sunscreen, cap and sunglasses year-round; comfortable shoes for forts (Mehrangarh and Amber involve walking); modest clothing for temples; a scarf for dust at the dunes.
  • Money and connectivity: UPI is accepted almost everywhere including camel operators; carry some cash for village stalls and parking. Network is fine in all cities and patchy at Sam/Khuri and inside Ranthambore.
  • Timings and tips: Nathdwara darshan slots are short and specific, so we time your arrival; Ranakpur opens to tourists around noon; Mehrangarh and Amber are best early morning before the heat; Pushkar's fair week doubles hotel prices in a 50 km radius; agree pony and camel prices before you mount.
  • Driving: avoid night driving on the Jodhpur–Jaisalmer and Udaipur–Jodhpur roads because of stray cattle; leave by 7 am on long days and lunch at a highway dhaba we trust.

Rajasthan tour packages – frequently asked questions

How much does a Rajasthan tour package cost from Ahmedabad?

Rajasthan packages on this page start at ₹6,500 per person. A 2-night Udaipur weekend by road with 3-star hotels costs about ₹8,500–11,000 per person; a 6-night Udaipur–Jodhpur–Jaisalmer circuit ₹22,000–28,000; the 8-night grand circuit with Jaipur ₹30,000–38,000. Heritage and palace hotels raise these by 50% to several times over. No flights are needed for the road circuits.

How far is Udaipur from Ahmedabad by road?

About 260 km, or 4½–5 hours on the national highway with one stop. Mount Abu is about 220 km (4–4½ hours), Jodhpur about 450 km (8 hours) and Jaipur about 650 km (10–11 hours). We recommend driving to Udaipur, Mount Abu, Kumbhalgarh, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer, and flying or taking an overnight train for Jaipur.

How many days are enough for Rajasthan?

Two nights covers Udaipur or Mount Abu as a weekend. Four nights covers Mewar – Udaipur, Kumbhalgarh, Ranakpur and Chittorgarh. Six to seven nights covers Mewar plus Jodhpur and Jaisalmer with a desert camp. Eight to nine nights adds Pushkar and Jaipur, and ten lets you include Ranthambore or Shekhawati.

Which is better – Sam or Khuri for the desert camp?

Sam has the largest dunes and the most camps with lively evening programmes; it is convenient but crowded on weekends and in Christmas week. Khuri is quieter, smaller and more village-like, and our pick for couples. Both are about 40–45 km from Jaisalmer. Choose a heated or AC tent for December–January and pre-book for Diwali and New Year.

Do Ranthambore safaris need advance booking?

Yes. Permits are issued per gypsy (six seats) or canter for morning and afternoon slots through the forest department portal, often months ahead, with zone allocation decided by the system. Core zones 1–5 are closed July to September. We book your permits with photo ID as soon as your dates are fixed; sightings are never guaranteed, so plan two safaris.

Is Rajasthan good for a honeymoon?

Udaipur is one of the best honeymoon cities in India and only a 5-hour drive from Ahmedabad – a lake-view room, a sunset boat ride on Pichola and a rooftop dinner make a perfect 2–3 nights. Add a heritage haveli in Jodhpur and a luxury tent at Khuri for a 6-night trip. Palace-hotel upgrades for one night are our most popular honeymoon add-on.

Do you arrange Jain pilgrimage trips in Rajasthan?

Yes. Our Mewar Jain circuit covers Ambaji, Dilwara (Mount Abu), Ranakpur and Nathdwara with Jain bhojanshala meals and darshan timed to each temple; the Marwar extension adds Nakoda Parshwanath and Osian. Drives are short, hotels have lifts, and the whole trip is a private itinerary for your family on your dates.

What is the best time to visit Rajasthan?

October to March. October–November and February–March have the most pleasant days; December–January is best for the desert and tiger safaris but cold at night. April–June is extremely hot except at Mount Abu; July–September is the monsoon, when Udaipur, Kumbhalgarh and Mount Abu are green and make excellent weekends from Ahmedabad.

Is pure-veg and Jain food available in Rajasthan?

Very easily. Rajasthan is a vegetarian-majority state; Marwari and Rajasthani thali restaurants in every city serve dal-baati, gatte ki sabzi and ker sangri, with Jain preparations on request. Nathdwara, Ranakpur and Mount Abu have Jain bhojanshalas, and Udaipur, Mount Abu and Jaipur have Gujarati thali places. We confirm Jain meals in writing with hotels and desert camps.

Is Rajasthan suitable for senior citizens?

Yes, with sensible pacing. We keep daily drives under 5–6 hours, choose hotels with lifts (many havelis do not have them, so we check), use the car up to Amber and Mehrangarh wherever permitted, skip the camel ride for a jeep at the dunes, and schedule forts early morning. Mewar in October–March is the gentlest circuit.

What is usually not included in the package?

Monument entry tickets, Ranthambore and Jawai safari permits and vehicles, camel and jeep safaris unless specified, boat rides, light-and-sound shows, lunches and dinners unless specified, train or flight tickets unless added, personal expenses and 5% GST. Every quote lists inclusions and exclusions side by side.

Can I customise the Rajasthan package or travel as a large family?

Every package can be changed: add Jawai leopard safaris, Bikaner or Mandawa, upgrade one night to a palace hotel, start from Vadodara or Surat, or return by train from Jaisalmer. Every trip is a private, customised itinerary – your own car and driver, your own dates. Extended families and friend groups travel together as a private group in a Tempo Traveller or coach. Call 1800-313-4262 or WhatsApp us the package.

Which is the best Rajasthan weekend trip from Ahmedabad?

Udaipur is the favourite: lakes, palaces and a sunset boat ride, with Nathdwara darshan on the way back. Mount Abu is closer and cooler in summer, and pairs naturally with Ambaji. Both work well over two nights by car from Ahmedabad, leaving home early on the first day.

Can the package start from our home in Ahmedabad?

Yes. For road trips the car and driver pick you up from your home in Ahmedabad or Gandhinagar and drop you back at the end. Fuel, tolls, parking, Rajasthan entry tax and the driver's allowance are included in the quote, so nothing is settled separately with the driver.

Is there a train from Ahmedabad to Udaipur?

Yes. Trains run from Asarwa station in Ahmedabad to Udaipur City via Himmatnagar and Dungarpur. The Vande Bharat takes a little over four hours and other expresses about five. We can meet you at Udaipur City station with a car for sightseeing and the onward journey.

Can we drive from Ahmedabad to Jaisalmer?

Yes, but split it over two days, ideally with a night in Jodhpur, because the total is 620 to 720 km depending on the route. Most families drive out through Udaipur and Jodhpur, then take an overnight train or a flight home so the long return drive is avoided.

Is Mount Abu a good summer vacation trip from Ahmedabad?

Yes. Mount Abu stays far cooler than the Gujarat plains in April to June, is only about four hours away, and suits children and grandparents. It gets busy in the May vacation and on long weekends, so book hotels near Nakki Lake three to four weeks in advance.

How do you plan around Shrinathji darshan at Nathdwara?

Darshan opens in short slots through the day, with a long afternoon break, and timings change with the season and festivals. We confirm the schedule for your date and time the drive so you reach before the slot you want, usually Mangla or Shringar in the morning.
