Himachal Pradesh is the hill holiday Gujarati families have trusted for decades, and for good reason: it is the closest big-mountain state to Ahmedabad with reliable snow, the roads are good by Himalayan standards, and Manali's Mall Road has more Gujarati thali restaurants than some Ahmedabad suburbs. Honeymooners come for Manali and Solang in winter, families come in the May vacation when Ahmedabad is 43°C and Shimla is 24°C, and senior groups come in autumn when the roads are dry and the valleys are quiet.

The 208 packages below are on sale with live prices. Below them we explain the Ahmedabad connection (flights to Delhi or Chandigarh plus Volvo or car), compare Shimla, Manali and Dharamshala honestly, give a month-by-month snow calendar, three day-wise itineraries, the Atal Tunnel and Rohtang facts, and the food and hotel details that matter to a Gujarati traveller.

Himachal tour package price guide (2026)

Himachal packages on this page start at ₹6,900 per person. The land cost depends on the number of nights, hotel category and whether you use a private car throughout or a Volvo coach for the long Delhi–Manali leg. Bands below are per person on twin sharing, with hotels, breakfast and dinner, private AC car for sightseeing, excluding flights or trains to Delhi/Chandigarh.

Add for flights: Ahmedabad–Delhi return fares are usually ₹6,000–10,000 per person booked a month ahead; Ahmedabad–Chandigarh ₹8,000–13,000. Usually extra on the ground: Rohtang Pass permit and vehicle (when open), Solang ropeway and adventure activities, Kufri horse rides, Jakhu ropeway, Kalka–Shimla toy train tickets, paragliding at Bir, river rafting at Kullu, and 5% GST. Every quote shows these as separate lines.

How to reach Himachal from Ahmedabad

Himachal has only small airports (Kullu-Bhuntar, Shimla-Jubbarhatti, Kangra-Gaggal) with weather-dependent flights, so almost everyone enters through Delhi or Chandigarh. Here is how we route Ahmedabad clients:

RouteTimeWho it suits
Fly Ahmedabad–Chandigarh (direct when available, else via Delhi), then car to Shimla (115 km, 3½–4 h)Door to Shimla in about 7–8 hFamilies, seniors, honeymooners starting with Shimla
Fly Ahmedabad–Delhi (about 1 h 30 min), overnight Volvo to Manali (about 12–14 h)Overnight, arrive Manali next morningBudget travellers, friends' groups, Manali-only trips
Fly Ahmedabad–Chandigarh, car to Manali (about 300 km, 8–9 h with stops)One long dayThose who want to stop at Mandi and Kullu, or avoid night coaches
Train Ahmedabad–Delhi (about 13–16 h) or towards Kalka, then Kalka–Shimla toy train (5–6 h)About two daysSenior groups and families who enjoy the UNESCO toy train
Fly Ahmedabad–Dharamshala (Gaggal) via DelhiAbout 5–6 h including connectionDharamshala–Dalhousie trips; flights are weather-dependent
  • Our usual plan: fly Ahmedabad–Chandigarh in the morning, drive to Shimla the same day, move Shimla–Manali by private car (about 250 km, 7–8 h), and return Manali–Chandigarh or Manali–Delhi by Volvo or car for the flight home. This avoids two overnight coaches.
  • Distances inside Himachal: Shimla–Manali 250 km (7–8 h); Manali–Dharamshala 240 km (7 h); Dharamshala–Dalhousie 120 km (4 h); Dalhousie–Pathankot 80 km (3 h, nearest railhead for the return); Manali–Atal Tunnel–Sissu 40 km (1½ h).
  • Vehicles: Dzire or Etios for a couple, Innova Crysta for a family of 5–6, Tempo Traveller for 10–12. Hill-registered taxis with local drivers are mandatory for Rohtang and recommended everywhere.

Shimla, Manali or Dharamshala – which one is for you?

The most common question we get on the phone is "Shimla ke Manali?" Here is the honest comparison we give.

Short version: for a first trip with parents, do Shimla and Manali; for a honeymoon in winter, give Manali three nights; for a second visit or a quieter trip, add Dharamshala and Dalhousie or go to Jibhi and Tirthan valley.

  • Day 7: Khajjiar meadow ("mini Switzerland"), Kalatop sanctuary, Dalhousie Mall Road.

9 nights / 10 days – Spiti circuit (mid-June to September only)

Shimla – Narkanda – Sangla/Chitkul – Kalpa – Nako – Tabo – Kaza (Key monastery, Kibber, Langza, Hikkim post office) – Chandratal – Manali via the Atal Tunnel. High altitude (Kaza 3,650 m), basic hotels and homestays, long driving days; for fit adults only, and we build in acclimatisation nights at Kalpa and Nako.

Seniors and slow travellers – 6 nights

Fly to Chandigarh, two nights in Shimla, three nights in Manali in a hotel with a lift close to Mall Road, one night in Chandigarh before the flight. We skip the Rohtang permit queue, do Sissu via the Atal Tunnel instead (a flat 1½-hour drive), keep the Shimla–Manali drive to daylight hours with a lunch halt at Mandi, and carry oxygen cans in the car as a precaution.

Buyer's guide: Atal Tunnel, Rohtang and the snow calendar

Atal Tunnel and Sissu – no permit needed

  • The 9 km Atal Tunnel under the Rohtang range connects Manali with Lahaul in about 15 minutes. It is open all year and needs no permit. Sissu, on the other side, has a waterfall, a lake and snow for much longer than Solang – usually from November to April.
  • Most of our Manali packages include a Solang + Atal Tunnel + Sissu day. It gives families guaranteed snow views in winter without the Rohtang permit lottery.

Rohtang Pass – when and how

  • Rohtang (3,980 m) is usually open from around late May or June to October/November, depending on snow clearance. It is closed on Tuesdays for maintenance.
  • A limited number of vehicle permits is issued per day through an online system; only hill-registered taxis can go. The permit, a dedicated vehicle and snow gear hire are extra and quoted separately. In winter Rohtang is closed and Solang or Sissu is the snow point.

Places to visit in Himachal Pradesh

  • Shimla: Mall Road, the Ridge, Jakhu temple, Christ Church, Viceregal Lodge and the UNESCO Kalka–Shimla toy train.
  • Kufri and Narkanda: Kufri for horse rides and Mahasu Peak views; Narkanda and Hatu Peak for quieter snow and apple orchards.
  • Manali: Hadimba temple, Old Manali, Vashisht hot springs, Mall Road – the base for everything below.
  • Solang valley: ropeway, zorbing, skiing in winter and paragliding in summer; 14 km from Manali.
  • Atal Tunnel and Sissu: the drive into Lahaul with glacier-fed waterfalls and snow long after Manali has none.
  • Rohtang Pass: summer snow at 3,980 m when open (permit required).
  • Kullu and Naggar: river rafting on the Beas, shawl factories, Naggar castle and the Roerich gallery.
  • Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj: Dalai Lama temple complex, Bhagsu falls, Dal lake, Triund trek, the cricket stadium.
  • Dalhousie and Khajjiar: colonial churches, pine forests and the Khajjiar meadow.
  • Kasauli and Chail: quiet, low-altitude stops near Shimla ideal for a slow weekend or seniors.
  • Jibhi, Tirthan valley and Kasol: riverside cottages and trout streams for couples who want to avoid Manali's crowds.
  • Spiti valley: Key monastery, Chandratal lake, Hikkim and Langza – a high-altitude desert circuit for June to September.

Food, hotels and tips for Gujarati travellers

  • Vegetarian and Jain food: Manali is the easiest – Mall Road has several Gujarati thali restaurants and Jain food is available on request at most hotels. Shimla has a few Gujarati and Marwari thali places plus plenty of North Indian veg. Dharamshala, Dalhousie and Spiti are harder; we pre-arrange Jain meals with the hotel kitchen and share a list of veg restaurants with your vouchers. Himachali dham (a festive veg meal) and siddu are worth trying.
  • Hotel categories: in Shimla the value is in location – a hotel within walking distance of Mall Road saves daily taxi fares. In Manali, choose between Mall Road hotels (convenient) and riverside resorts in Prini, Aleo or Naggar (views, quiet). Dharamshala has good resorts around Naddi and Dharamkot; Dalhousie has colonial-era hotels.
  • Pack: proper winter wear for December–February (thermals, waterproof shoes, gloves); a light jacket even in May; motion-sickness tablets for the Shimla–Manali road; sunscreen for snow glare; a power bank for long drives.
  • Health and altitude: Shimla and Manali are low enough for everyone. Rohtang, Sissu and Spiti are high; hydrate, avoid alcohol the first day, and do not plan Spiti for anyone with heart or lung conditions.
  • Money and connectivity: UPI works in all towns; carry cash for Rohtang, Sissu and Spiti. Mobile network is patchy beyond the Atal Tunnel and in much of Spiti.
  • Timings: Rohtang is closed on Tuesdays; the Kalka–Shimla toy train and Solang ropeway sell out in May and December; Jakhu ropeway queues are shortest early morning.

Himachal tour packages – frequently asked questions

How much does a Himachal tour package cost?

Himachal packages on this page start at ₹6,900 per person. A typical 5-night Shimla–Manali trip with 3-star hotels, breakfast and dinner, and a private car costs ₹16,000–21,000 per person excluding flights; 4-star hotels take it to ₹24,000–32,000. Add about ₹6,000–10,000 per person for Ahmedabad–Delhi return flights.

How do I reach Himachal from Ahmedabad?

The fastest way is to fly Ahmedabad–Chandigarh (direct when available, otherwise via Delhi) and drive 3½–4 hours to Shimla. Budget travellers fly to Delhi and take an overnight Volvo to Manali (12–14 hours). Trains from Ahmedabad to Delhi take 13–16 hours, after which the Kalka–Shimla toy train is a scenic option.

When can I see snow in Himachal?

Reliable snow is from December to February at Solang, Sissu and Kufri, with Manali and Shimla towns usually white in January. Sissu, beyond the Atal Tunnel, keeps snow from November to April. In May and June you see snow at Rohtang Pass, which opens around late May or June and needs a permit.

Is the Atal Tunnel included and do I need a permit?

Most of our Manali packages include a day to Solang, the Atal Tunnel and Sissu, and no permit is needed for this route. Rohtang Pass is separate: it needs a daily-quota permit and a hill-registered vehicle, is closed on Tuesdays, and is only open roughly June to October, so we quote it as an optional extra.

How many days are enough for Himachal?

Five to six nights covers Shimla and Manali comfortably. Seven to eight nights adds Dharamshala and Dalhousie. A Manali-only trip works in three to four nights using the Volvo from Delhi. Spiti needs nine to ten nights because of acclimatisation and long drives.

Shimla or Manali – which is better?

Manali for snow, adventure and honeymoons; Shimla for a colonial hill-town atmosphere, shorter drives from Chandigarh and easier walking for seniors. Most first-timers do both: two nights in Shimla and three in Manali. If you have only four nights, choose Manali.

Is Gujarati or Jain food available in Himachal?

Yes in the main towns. Manali's Mall Road has several Gujarati thali restaurants and Jain food on request; Shimla has a few Gujarati and Marwari options. In Dharamshala, Dalhousie and Spiti we arrange Jain meals with the hotel kitchen in advance and confirm it on your voucher.

Is Himachal suitable for senior citizens?

Yes, with the right pacing. We fly seniors to Chandigarh instead of using overnight coaches, keep the Shimla–Manali drive to daylight with a lunch stop, book hotels with lifts near Mall Road, replace Rohtang with the easy Atal Tunnel–Sissu drive, and keep one free afternoon. Spiti is not recommended for seniors with health conditions.

What is the best month for a family trip during school vacation?

May is ideal: 15–28°C, Rohtang opening, all roads dry and every activity at Solang running. It is also the busiest month, so Shimla and Manali hotels fill by April. Book by February or March for May travel. October (Diwali break) is the next best, with clear skies and the first snow at Sissu.

Can rafting, paragliding and skiing be added?

Yes. River rafting on the Beas near Kullu (March–June and September–November), paragliding at Solang or Bir Billing (October–June), skiing at Solang in January–February and Narkanda, and the Solang ropeway can all be added as pay-on-site or pre-booked extras. We quote them separately so you choose what you want.

What is not included in a Himachal package?

Flights and trains unless you ask us to add them, Rohtang permit and vehicle, ropeway and adventure activity tickets, toy-train tickets, lunches, snow-gear hire, personal expenses and 5% GST. Each quote lists inclusions and exclusions side by side so there are no surprises.

Can I customise the itinerary or travel as a large group?

Every itinerary here can be changed: add Kasauli or Chail, swap Dalhousie for Jibhi and Tirthan, upgrade to riverside resorts, or extend into Amritsar. Every trip is a private, customised itinerary – your own car and driver, your own dates. Extended families and friend groups travel together as a private group in a Tempo Traveller or coach. Call 1800-313-4262 or WhatsApp the package to us.
