Visa needed?
Yes. Indian passport holders need a Schengen visitor visa for Norway.
How to apply
Register the application and pay the fee online in UDI's application portal, then book an appointment and hand in documents and biometrics at a VFS Global Norway centre in India. The Royal Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi decides the case.
Visa fee
EUR 90 for adults and children over 12, EUR 45 for children aged 6 to 12 (UDI fee list). VFS service charge is extra (EUR 8 in India as per VFS).
Processing time
Usually 15 days from when the embassy receives the application; can go up to 45 days in individual cases or busy seasons.
Stay allowed
Up to 90 days in any 180-day period in Norway and the rest of the Schengen area.
Validity
Set by the embassy on the visa sticker.
Passport
Issued within the last 10 years and valid at least 3 months after you leave the Schengen area.

Documents usually needed

  • Application registered and paid in UDI's online portal (cover letter printed)
  • Passport issued within 10 years, valid 3 months after the trip, plus copy of the bio page
  • Recent passport photograph
  • Travel medical insurance valid in all Schengen countries for the whole stay, minimum EUR 30,000, including repatriation
  • Proof of funds (UDI guide: about NOK 1,300 a day, or NOK 300 a day if staying with family/friends or in prepaid accommodation)
  • Flight and accommodation bookings, or an invitation from your host
  • Any other document on the embassy checklist for India

How to apply

  1. Check that Norway is your main destination (longest stay or main purpose); if equal, the first Schengen country you enter
  2. Fill in the application and pay the visa fee in UDI's online portal
  3. Book a VFS appointment online (apply no earlier than 6 months and no later than 15 days before travel)
  4. Attend the appointment, give fingerprints and photo, and hand in the documents
  5. Track the application and collect the passport from VFS

Important to know

Travel insurance of at least EUR 30,000 covering the whole Schengen stay is mandatory.

Fingerprints are taken in person at the first application.

The EU Entry/Exit System (EES) started on 12 October 2025: non-EU short-stay visitors are registered at the Schengen border instead of only getting passport stamps.
