Leopards live on the granite hills around Jawai Dam alongside Rabari herders, and sightings on an evening safari are more reliable than in most tiger reserves. Getting there from Ahmedabad
Jawai is about 260 km from Ahmedabad, roughly 4.5 to 5 hours by road via Palanpur and Abu Road, which is why the package is built around a private car rather than a train. The nearest station is Jawai Bandh on the Ahmedabad–Jodhpur line if you prefer rail, and Udaipur airport is about 150 km away. Leaving Ahmedabad by 7 am gets you to the resort for lunch and comfortably in time for the 3.30 pm safari departure.

- Best months: October to March for pleasant weather; leopard sightings continue through the hot April–June period, when fewer visitors come. The reserve area is quiet in peak monsoon.
- Food: the resort serves vegetarian Rajasthani and North Indian food, and Jain meals are arranged on request. Carry your own snacks for the safari.
- Who it suits: couples, wildlife photographers and small groups. Children above 6 enjoy it; very young children find the jeep ride long.

November to February gives soft light and comfortable temperatures. Winter also brings flamingos and cranes to the dam, so carry a zoom lens.
