Getting there from Ahmedabad
This itinerary is designed around a private car from Ahmedabad, so there are no flights or stations to manage. Jaisalmer is about 580 km away, which is why day 1 is a long drive; families who prefer not to sit that long can take an overnight train from Ahmedabad to Jaisalmer and meet the car there, and we adjust the price. Jodhpur is 4.5 hours from Jaisalmer, Jawai 3 hours from Jodhpur, and Jawai to Ahmedabad roughly 5 hours on a clear day; the itinerary allows extra time for stops.
Good to know before you book
- Best months: October to March. The Jaisalmer Desert Festival is usually in February. April to June is very hot in the desert, though Jawai leopard sightings stay good.
- Food: Rajasthan is excellent for vegetarians; Jaisalmer and Jodhpur have Gujarati and Jain thali restaurants, and the Jawai resort cooks Jain food on request.
- Who it suits: couples, families with older children and photographers; the long drives make it less ideal for very young children.
- Customisation: add a desert camp night at Sam, Kumbhalgarh or Ranakpur Jain temples on the way home, or start by train.

Are leopard sightings guaranteed at Jawai?
No sighting is ever guaranteed, but Jawai has one of the highest leopard sighting rates in India. A second morning safari can be added for better odds.
Is Jain food available on this route?
Yes. Jaisalmer and Jodhpur have many Jain restaurants, and the Jawai resort prepares Jain meals on request. We inform each hotel in advance.
Can we visit Ranakpur on the way back?
Yes. Ranakpur Jain temple is about an hour from Jawai and adds roughly two hours to the return day. Many Gujarati families include it.
