Overview

Gangtok is the capital of the mountainous northern Indian state of Sikkim. Established as a Buddhist pilgrimage site in the 1840s, the city became capital of an independent monarchy after British rule ended, but joined India in 1975. Today, it remains a Tibetan Buddhist center and a base for hikers organizing permits and transport for treks through Sikkim’s Himalayan mountain ranges.

Lachung is a mountain village close to the Tibetan border, in the northeastern Indian state of Sikkim. It's divided by the Lachung River. The village is home to the 19th-century Buddhist Lachung Monastery, surrounded by apple orchards. Nearby, the Yumthang Valley's Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary protects many species of rhododendron. The valley is also known for its waterfalls, pine forests and hot springs.

Darjeeling is a town in India's West Bengal state, in the Himalayan foothills. Once a summer resort for the British Raj elite, it remains the terminus of the narrow-gauge Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, or “Toy Train,” completed in 1881. It's famed for the distinctive black tea grown on plantations that dot its surrounding slopes. Its backdrop is Mt. Kanchenjunga, among the world’s highest peaks.

Day 2

GANGTOK - TSOMGO LAKE & BABA MANDIR – GANGTOK (55 KMS ONE WAY)

After a delicious breakfast at hotel visit Tsomgo Lake (12,400 ft.) & Baba Mandir (13,200 ft.) which is 55 kms one way from Gangtok city. Enjoy the evening at leisure. Shop around at M.G. Marg & explore the city on your own. Enjoy overnight stay in Gangtok. Visit To Nathula Pass (14450ft): The road to Nathula passes through the Tsomgo lake. It is one of the highest motorable roads in the world and is richly surrounded by alpine flora. On a clear day you can even see the road winding down the Chumbi valley. Tourists are allowed to go close to the international border from where you can see Chinese soldiers on the other side of the barbed wire. Nathula is open for Indian nationals on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sundays. (Rs.5500 /- Vehicle Extra to Visit Nathula Pass). (If due to landslide or bad road condition Tsomgo Lake is closed then alternate sightseeing will be provided).

GANGTOK SIGHTSEEING

After breakfast proceed to visit for the Local Sightseeing of Gangtok Includes Do Drul Chorten - the most significant Buddhist shrine in Sikkim. Visit some of the famous attractions like Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, Handloom & Handicrafts centre, Enchey Monastery, Tashi View Point and the Gangtok Flower Show(If Open). Later, get back to your hotel for an overnight stay in Gangtok.

GANGTOK TO LACHUNG

LACHUNG - YUMTHANG VALLEY & ZERO POINT

Yumthang is located some 26 km away from Lachung. Where the tree line ends, the valley erupts in multi-colored meadows of flowers of Primula, Rhododendron, other alpine flowers You will then return back to Lachung for Overnight stay at Hotel.

Be a witness of the spectacular sunrise over Mt. Kangchenjunga (28,208 ft. Worlds 3rd highest peak at around 4 a.m) at Tiger Hill early in the morning (subject to weather condition). Thrill yourself by visiting World famous Ghoom Monastery and Batasia Loop on your way back. After a sumptuous breakfast visit Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, P.N. Zoological Park (Thursday close), Tenzing Rock, Tibetan Refugee self-help Centre (Sunday closed), Tea Garden (outer view) , Japanese Temple, Peace Pagoda and Ropeway (Ticket cost not included and directly payable by guest).
