Visa needed?
Yes. Ordinary Indian passports are not on Mongolia's visa-free list. Only Indian diplomatic and official passports are visa-free.

Online on Mongolia's official e-visa site (evisa.mn). India is on the Immigration Agency's list of e-visa countries.

Not shown on the official pages we checked. The e-visa site shows it when you apply. The fee is not refunded once paid, even if the visa is refused.

Mongolia's Immigration Agency says the approved e-visa is emailed within 48 hours.

Must be valid for at least 180 days before your intended travel.

Documents usually needed

  • Passport valid for at least 180 days
  • Digital passport scan and photo as asked by the e-visa form
  • Card for online payment (the site lists JCB, MasterCard, UnionPay, WeChat and American Express)
  • Copy of the approved e-visa to carry on arrival and during your stay

How to apply

  1. Open the official site evisa.mn and fill in the online application.
  2. Pay the fee online by card.
  3. Wait for the e-visa by email (the Immigration Agency says within 48 hours if approved).
  4. Print or save the e-visa and travel with the same passport you used in the application.
  5. On arrival, give your biometrics at the border. Your hotel or host registers you online within 48 hours.

Important to know

The e-visa cannot be extended or changed into another visa type.

An e-visa does not guarantee entry. Border officers can still refuse entry.

Your host, hotel or inviting organisation must register you online within 48 hours of arrival.

India's MEA list also shows visa on arrival for Mongolia, but Mongolia's own pages do not describe it. Check with the Embassy of Mongolia before relying on it.
